I am only a 16 year old girl and never would have gave a thought of working with forensics but that's my lifes' goal-to be a forensic anthropologist. Putting that aside, I was astonished by the brilliancy of this book. The only disappointing aspect was the involvement of Amelia Sachs who was 'just a cop'. She would have never been assigned to that case. But I learned so much through this novel-not just about forensics but how well someone can write and how suspense novels can be so good. Even though this was my first Deaver novel I will keep reading more. I also recommend "The Devil's Teardrop" because it was a extremely suspenseful thriller but didn't deal with forensics like "The Bone Collector" did. Oh, and to save your time-skip the movie because it was extremely bad and nothing like the book!! You won't be justified and don't pretend I didn't warn you!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This is the Best Book Ever Review: Oh my gosh! I seriously think that this is the best book of all time. It is definitely my favorite book ever. It totally kept me on the edge of my seat. From page one, you are thrown into the middle of the first victims kidnapping. You can paint terrible but amazingly accurate pictures in your head of these all too horrific events. I loved every second of the Bone Collector! The characters are amazingly well developed. I never knew you could form such strong bonds with characters made from only words on paper. I had a special bond with Lincoln rhyme, Amelia Sachs, and Thom, Lincoln's nurse. But every character was awesome. I found myself praying that the detectives would reach the victims in time. I was sad for a character at some point. Happy at other points. And angry at just as many points. This book was a real page turner. Something was a;ways happening. I needed to know what was going to happen, right then and there. I couldn't put the book down. I just kept reading and reading. There was no stopping me. I managed to find time to read the book in about a day and a half. And with my hectic life, that's no small accomplishment. Everyone should read the Bone Collector. This book has the perfect combination for a beautiful, intriquing, and plain awazing mystery thriller. Jeffery Deaver is an amazing author. I am definitely going to read every one of his books!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent, Excellent Book Review: This was a great book. Loved it so much more than the movie (though that was great too). It had all the creepiness, intrigue, mystery, etc. that you could want. Highly recommend reading this one and it's sequels!
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Not my type of novel Review: First of all the only reason I read this book is because it was on sale, at the bookstore and I wanted to read a book turned movie before I saw the movie. This was the first detective novel I have read. It was good but I gave it a 3 star's because it just wasn't for me. This book really stresses me out. It seemed every page a turned I got agitated because there was no way in the world this could really happen. I'm the type of person that gets annoyed when those detective shows on tv or in the movies do things that would have people in jail in the real world. Sure it's a fictional story but it still got to me. For example, what crime agency would hand over a high level murder case to a civilian retired cop. Tell me if I'm wrong but that really sounds crazy. The last aspect of this book I would like to comment on is the relationship between Lincoln and Amelia. The author slowly developed the relationship between these two throughout the book, but after reading it I realized that the entire time span of the book was about three days. Three days! Three days to pretty much fall in love from being complete strangers. Impossible. And there is no way in the world that Amelia could change the mind of a paralized man in that amount of time. If you read it you know what I mean. Anyways, it was an ok book to pass the time but I'm sure I could have found a better one.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Good book - great details Review: I really enjoyed this book. Wonderful details and excellent descriptions made the crime scenes come to life! Great characters, and I really enjoyed the complicated nature of each of them. I have never seen the movie, but I am very happy with the book! Good read - I recommend it to anyone who has the stomach for some brutal crime scenes.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Bone Collector Review: I not only read this book once, I read it twice before passing it on to my daughter just in case I missed something the first time. It was FANTASTIC. So much better then the movie. Yes, I saw the movie first and even knowing how it was going to end and all did not change how I felt about reading this book. I could not put it down. I wish we had more authors like Deaver.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Collect This Book! Review: This is a great story. The characters are interesting. Lincoln Rhyme is the most interesting police officer in fiction today. His physical challenges coupled with his brilliance make for a top-notch character study. Amelia Sachs is a good protege for Rhyme. Her character is strong and it's fun to see their relationship develop. The science of forensics is displayed in fascinating detail. It has a satisfying ending...something you don't find in too many novels today. I am going to find "The Coffin Dancer" and "The Empty Chair" so I can find out more about Lincoln Rhyme. Skip the movie and dive into this book. It's a winner.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: A decent suspense thriller Review: I found the Bone Collector to be an adequate novel. It is basically your typical good guys trying to catch the bad guys, with a few differences thrown in. The main character, Lincoln, is in a wheel chair and therefore relies on rookie cop Amelia Sachs to follow his instructions to catch the killer. I really liked the character of Sachs because she is a smart, tough woman. I was immediately surprised by the ending, but after careful evaluation, its really not such a big surprise. As is true with most books-made-into-movies, the novel is much better. The movie leaves out many small parts which prove to be important. Also, the movie leaves out conversations which offer insight into the relationship between Lincoln and Amelia. If you enjoyed the movie then you should definately read the book. However, if you did not like the movie, you are not likely to appreciate the book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The Bone Collector Review: I have a sort of immunity to horror stories. After the first dozen or so pages I become acclimatized and am not scared. I've tried Anne Rice, Steven King, the X-Files, to no avail. But "The Bone Collector" was different. Jeff Deaver keeps bringing in new things to fear throughout the book, instead of a whole bunch just at the very beginning; I find the latter much less effective. In addition, the plot and characters are all completely believable-even the bone collector himself. The book also brings in a great deal of science; in the forensics scenes, as well as some psychology. All in all, this is the best horror/mystery book I have ever seen or heard of.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Suspenseful page turner Review: Excellent novel, suspenseful, great plot that just gets better and better, graphic in parts since it's about a serial killer but nevertheless a great book...one of the best i've read.
