I bought this book for an introduction to characters Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs before continuing with The Coffin Dancer and beyond. I had also thoroughly enjoyed Deaver's Hell's Kitchen. The CSI techno-gadgets really never grabbed me, but I did enjoy the geological details of Manhattan, required to solve the crimes. I will give these characters and Deaver another chance and continue with The Coffin Dancer.

Review: I have never been a very big fan of crime novels, but Jeffery Deaver has kept me coming back for more. In this, his first in a series about Lincoln Rhyme, a quadriplegic genius, Deaver shows just how much research goes into making his novels realistic. It is clear that the author has studied forensics, anatomy, and police practices. The story revolves around a man who is simultaneously living in the present, while thinking of himself as a killer from the early 1900's. Deaver's ability to present New York's past and modern worlds together is wonderful. The character development is excellent as well. Lincolm Rhyme is one of the best characters I have ever come across. His knack for understanding the criminal mind is beyond measure. Deaver deftly gives the reader a view of life from the perspective of Rhyme, someone who cannot do more than move his head and one finger, yet has an intelligence few can match. The other main character is Amelia Sachs, a beat cop, who is drafted by Rhyme into being an extension of his body by doing the necessary leg work (and sometimes gruesome tasks) that he cannot. The relationship that develops between them is great, and at times, provides a little humor to an otherwise dark story. I highly recomend this book, unless you have a really weak stomach, since some scenes are gory. Keep down your dinner, and you'll be reading long into the wee hours of the morning!

Even through the characters' diversity, a strong bond of friendship prevails. The book is rich with forensic details and the villain is interesting as well. A must read for fans of Deaver. After this move on to Coffin Dancer, Empty Chair, and Stone Monkey...

Review: The movie was my actual introduction to Jeffery Deaver's work, but this was the first book of his I read. It was a real page turner. The description of the forensic evidence is fascinating. Even though I "knew" the ending, it wasn't exactly the same as the movie, and the entire book kept me on the edge of my seat. Deaver develops his characters well, so you get a good sense of how they think.

I think it is probably the best Lincoln Rhyme yet...and to think, this was the novel that started it all. The two characters of Rhyme and Sachs are excellently drawn, and they work so well together. Lincoln Rhyme can at times be incredibly annoying, but Deaver's portrayal of him is realisitc and compelling. The plot here is excellent. I love Deaver's deadlines every few hours style of writing, and i love his twists and turns. I agree that sometimes he goes over the top with them, but they still make for a really incredible and powerful story. The way Rhyme deduces so much from such little evidence is startling...a bit unrealistic, but nonetheless adds to the enjoyment of the plot. The climax is great, really exciting. And the way Rhyme deals with the killer is ingenious! This book comes very highly reccomended.

The courage it takes to write about a paralyzed main character, and to make it believable in the process takes some imagination. The plot of this book was very well laid out, there was no fat to add to the mix, just good solid fun. The murders by the killer were original. And the tight story line had me biting my nails to see who the next victim would be, and how they would ultimately display the next clue. I highly recommend this book. Just an aside, the movie was good even with its weaker ending but nothing like the novel.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Missed its turn to Greatness Review: There is no question the bone collector had potential to best some of the best genre authors out there. His characters are superb, and i was surprised to see a thriller that wasn't overshadowed by its villian. Like say, James Patterson's novels. However, the villian is where the author went wrong. While reading the book, there is a scene that misleads you into thinking this murder has a fraction of decency and humanity in him, but it seems the author changed his mind at the last second. It was his best oppurtunity to say, "yes, the killer is a bastard, but despite all the unforgivable things he does, he still is a human being." The killer was too evil, and therefore lost his realism.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: The Bone Collector From My View Review: The book "The Bone Collector" by Jeffery Deaver is a fictional suspense book. It is set in New York City where there is this insane killer on the loose. He leaves a piece of a bone from the victim he has killed at every scene of the crime. It is up to a man named Lincoln Rhyme who is physically handicapped and his assistant Amelia Sachs to discover who is the criminal. Through all of the evidence a crimes they receive, Amelia is capable of doing the work with the assistance of Rhyme. Towards the end, Amelia recalls a certain piece of evidence that leads her to the killer. Amelia gets her evidence from a book in which all of the crimes she has witnessed came from. She then figures out the final crime in when she reads what happens next. I think that the book was very good. It always kept me on the edge. I usually can always figure out mystery novels but this one just kept me guessing. I really think that this is a must read book. It has something in it for every type of reader. I think that it made me think how we have copycat criminals who base some of there crimes on past events or novels or movies which shoes that anything can be brought to life. I think that the book could have given a little bit more information regarding the crimes scenes to make them easier to figure out. All in all I thought it was a great book and well worth reading.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Captivating Review: This book didn't lead me to guess the ending, and that is a rare feat. I enjoyed the characters and the pace, and I can't wait to read The Coffin Dancer next!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Awesome Forensics! Review: I did things a bit differently and saw the movie before I read the book. I really enjoyed the movie, but the book was even better! This is a great suspense and mystery story, and the forensic detail is incredible. The hero and heroine are totally different than what we usually get, but boy are they real!. I think Lincoln Rhyme is phenomenal, and it certainly shows that physical handicaps do not impair brain power. The book provides a lot more detail than the movie, as is usually the case with books done into movies, but both are extremely entertaining. I recommend this book to anyone fond of mysteries and suspense.
