Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great read, the end catches you off guard Review: Like Deaver's "A Maiden's Grave", just when you think the mystery is solved and the book should be over, Deaver throws in wild twists that keep the plot moving. The characters are interesting, the style exciting, an all-around good read.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Good read, but unbelievable ending Review: I loved Maiden's Grave and have read and enjoyed his short stories as well. In his other works that I have read, I frequently thought I had found plot holes, only to to have the holes cleverly filled in later. No such luck here. I found the ending implausable at best. I'm hoping the follow-up will get back into the realm of believability.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This book is like riding a roller coaster at full speed. Review: I am an avid mystery/thriller reader and average three books a week. I read all the greats -- James Patterson, John Sandford, Patricia Cornwell, etc. Jeff Deaver's Bone Collector is my very favorite book of all time. I love the characters, the plot (wow!), even the bookcover is great. I've already ordered the sequel even though it hasn't been released yet. If you don't love this book, read no more --- you're wasting your time.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Don't read this before going to bed! Review: I fell asleep shortly after reading about the rats. As a result, I had a nightmare and did not sleep well. This book has some terrifying images. While I liked the idea of reading about a quad who is struggling with whether he wants to live or not..and I liked the crime scene/evidence details, I was disappointed with this book. It is poorly written. I found it hard to believe that they could solve clues so quickly. It just didn't seem realistic. The characters didn't come across as real either.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: taut vibrant forensic thriller Review: I hope there is a sequel to this vibrant, taut thriller. The detective is as unconventional as can be found anywhere in detective/thriller/murder books. The exquisitely human characters leapt off the page and I found that I could not put this book down until I had finished. I immediately felt regret upon the conclusion because my time had ended with these marvelous characters. I sincerely hope there will be more sleuthing by Lincoln Rhyme who is a truly unique fictional detective.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Enlightening and chillingly realistic. Review: I feel I can hardly heap enough praise upon this book to do it justice.Lincoln Rhyme,ex NYC detective, now confined to a wheelchair and a quadrapligic is brought in by the city to head up a task force investigating a very unusual and politically sensitive murder.Rhyme,a published authority in the field of forensic science and a fabled detective prior to his accident finds himself pitting his wits against an adversary whose guile and cunning keep him one step ahead of Rhyme and his beautiful forensic apprentice. The Bone Collector is a mind blowing tour de force of a crime novel. It informs as it entertains and shocks you.For all readers of crime novels in this genre,it is a genuinely unputdownable book. Happy Hunting.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Can you spell T-H-E A-L-I-E-N-I-S-T? Review: As with so many other reviewers on amazon, this is the first Deaver book that I've ever read and it had led me to buy the only other two books of his still in print- A MAIDEN'S GRAVE and PRAYING FOR SLEEP. It is a true joy to discover an already established author whose work you wish to continue reading. The book is a curious synthesis of failure and success- While it seems to be merely an updating and revision of the earlier THE ALIENIST, the main characters, the writing, and the denouement are sufficiently intriguing to allow the book to succeed on its own merits. The ending, a very satisfying, last second twist, was even better than Carr's in THE ALIENIST, IMHO. However, the book is so derivative of that classic, that you feel that you are treading over old ground. Let's look at the similarities in both novels: 1) Both have an unofficial serial killer task force, made up of 2) A handicapped protagonist, 3) A frustrated but sharp female detective who really isn't a detective, 4) A Frick and Frack duo of detectives a la The Isaccson Brothers. 5) Both books are concerned with Old New York. Despite these obvious similarities, the perceptive reader will be drawn into the difficult romance between Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs, as well as Rhyme's determination to commit suicide and the zeroing in on the killer. THE COFFIN DANCER, the followup to THE BONE COLLECTOR, will be worth waiting for, I'm sure.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Gripping! Believable... till you reach the ending... Review: It has it all: unique protagonists, a clever plot, attention to details... except a decent ending. When the identity of the killer is finally revealed, you would think Deavers was in a hurry to finish the novel. The ending's contrived thus opened the an otherwise tight novel to a lot of plotholes. But it's still worth reading.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The Bone Collector Review: Absolutely the best murder mystery book I have read in the last two years. After "Praying for Sleep" ,(good but long in the tooth) I was tempted to pass, but am so glad I did not. I even let my teenager read it. It lends itself to many sequels.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Absolutely Un-Putdownable Review: This is probably one of the best books of this genre I have ever read, and I have read a lot of forensic thrillers.I will admit to being a bit sceptical to begin with about a Quadraplegic detective ,but I was converted very quickly. This would make a brilliant film (Christopher Reeve?)and the twist at the end will make everybody gasp.Top book - hopefully the Coffin Dancer , the follow up will be as good.
