Rating: Summary: One book you can definetly judge by its cover Review: I was meandering through Books-A-Million not knowing what I was looking for when this bizzare book cover caught my eye. Equally captivating was its title, "The Bone Collector." To be honest, I had never heard of the author, Jeffer Deavery, but the reviews were impressive and the book jacket's description sounded intriging. "Intriging," is an understatement. "The Bone Collector" was none stop, edged of the page excitement from the get go. Deaver's vivid descriptions and first rate storytelling pull you in and take you on a psychotic journey like nothing you've ever read. It's a trip you have to take to believe and one hate to see end. If you're listening Deaver, great freaking read! Really hope to hear more from "The Bone Collector's" dynamic duo soon ... real soon.
Rating: Summary: Horrible. Review: This book is simply pathetic. The characters are nonsensical, the action is unrealistic (can one really bite through the carotid into the spine?!?) and the plot is lame. What more is there to say? It's a shame some big-wig has taken a shine to this author. If you want to throw cash at someone without talent, send it my way.
Rating: Summary: Up all night!!! Review: This is the first I have read of Deaver's works, but will definitely not be the last. I am just waiting for coffin dancer to come out in paper-back.This is the best book in this genre that I have read to date.
Rating: Summary: Interesting yet flat thriller Review: Deaver sets up an intriguing puzzle in The Bone Collector but chooses to populate the book with caricatures rather than characters. Hence we get Superdetective Lincoln Rhyme and Supermodel Amelia Sachs. Unfortunately this detracts from what should have been a dark and chilling novel. Deaver does however offer a genuinely surprising plot and an interesting and sensitive insight into the world of the quadriplegic which gives the book some backbone.
Rating: Summary: Complex Criminal Science and Unexpected Romance Review: This is not your usual crime novel. The main character is a self exiled, physically challenged, brilliant criminologist who has given up on life after a cruel accident leaves him totally paralyzed. Enter a bizarre killer juxtaposed against a strikingly beautiful police officer who is eagerly awaiting her transfer to a dull assignment. She finds herself thrown into the insanity of a serial killer investigation by becoming the eyes and legs of her brilliant mentor. The turn of events keeps you riveted to the book. The love affair leaves you with goose bumps. This book is not for the feint of heart.
Rating: Summary: dazzling and breathless; a real masterpiece Review: the only complaint I have about the book is that it was too short. I want a sequel, I want a sequel, I want a sequel! The characters are true to life, people that I really want to know, the plot is gripping, and the conclusion is as satisfying as... it's really good. Better than good. Lincoln Rhyme is stunningly, believably brilliant and Amelia Sachs is a perfect foil, beautiful and sulky and principled. Thom gets my vote as Best Supporting Character in the role of caregiver to a recalcitrant patient. The blend of characters is superb, the story line is full of energy, and the killer is an appropriate challenge to someone of Rhyme's brilliance. This book really shines. Don't read it in the dark, but definitely - read it!
Rating: Summary: Fast pace thriller which keeps you guessing till last page. Review: I read The Coffin Dancer first and rushed out the next day to get this book than read it in a day. Deaver's characters are great and he makes you care about them. Really liked the chemistry between Lincoln and Amelia. Deaver also deals with Lincoln's disability in a truthful and positive manner. Story was interesting with the NYC history mixed in to the story.
Rating: Summary: Excellent story Review: The flow of this book is fast, intriging and full of unforseen twists. Jeff Dever creates an excellent case with an unlikely and unwilling star, former detective, Lincoln Rhymes. Although Rhymes is preoccupied with the question of, "Is life worth living?", he still manages to direct an unusual investigation. The characters that Dever's develop adds to the case that you think is solved at least twice before the twists and turns finally stop. Thumbs up, lets have some more at this caliber!
Rating: Summary: Boycotte The Bone Collector Movie... Star Not Disabled Review: Deaver who does such a great job in story telling once again will let the movie industry ignore persons with disabilities. HBO did a version of Amazing Gracel; although the books lead role was played by a person with a disability, HBO turned the story into a 90 min Rockford Files ignoring the culture of deafness and the horror of being kidnapped and rescued by those in the "Hearing World". Now we discover that Bone Collector is being made into a movie with Denzel Washington as the lead. Although Christopher Reeves is too much of a Tiny Tim for the disability community, it would have been understood. I would suggest that the next role which calls for an African American role that they call me and I'll appear in black face.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down. Review: I have emailed or called everyone I know who likes good mystery fiction. This is so much better than either Sanford or Cornwell's latest efforts I was surprised I hadn't heard about it until I saw the paperback. Tightly woven page turner, I couldn't figure out who was the bad guy until Deaver told me. GREAT!!!
