Rating: Summary: The Power of Truth Review: In this powerfully truthful book, Dr. Hill speaks the truth powerfully. It is not always easy to speak truth to power, because those in power sometimes do not wish to hear the truth. It is, therefore, necessary to speak powerfully, so that the truth may be heard. Armed with the truth, however, one can become powerful, since the greatest power is that of truth, and the power of truth will prevail. This is one of the greatest books ever written; it is truly powerful, and powerfully true.
Rating: Summary: Speaking Truth to Power Review: Prof. Hill should be a practicing trial lawyer. Speaking the Truth to Power made her case extremely well. If I was a juror, I would have no doubt in my mind that she was did the right thing for her country, her race, and herself. I applaud her courage and conviction to share her story with a insensitive, skepitcal, misinformed senate panel. Speaking the Truth to Power, is a watershed to all those who have ever been the victim of sexual harassment and ended up defending their integrity. Prof. Hill's story is compelling and riveting.
Rating: Summary: Anita Hill's words speak truth to seekers of truth. Review: Speaking Truth to Power is a watershed work of honesty and simplicity. One greatly overlooked point explains how she came to the attention of the Senate Committee overseeing the confirmation of Clarence Thomas as Supreme Court Justice. She was sought out because of common knowledge of her experiences by several Washington "insiders". No radical feminist, she -- Anita Hill was never sponsored by anyone but herself. She stood up for truth because her integrity demanded it of her. The "powers that were" filtered out all but what they wanted to hear. As a result, the "spin" of Thomas' supporters came through much louder and clearer than the truth. She suffered. She was maligned. Man or woman, Democrat or Republican, Caucasian or other, human beings who have ears to hear cannot help but identify with her struggle.
Rating: Summary: Excellent reading Review: The only problem with this book is that it brings back to life the anger and disbelief that I felt at the time of the hearings. Ms Hill is an excellent writer and has the ability to transmit the anguish that she experienced during this time. However, her gentle personality and honest demeanor come through in her writing, giving the reader a complete picture of what she experienced from her own unique perspective. It is important that our society be exposed to the other side of these hearings. I wonder if Clarence Thomas will take the time to read it. Apparently he prefers other types of literature.
Rating: Summary: Anita Hill And Her Family Are True American Heroes Review: The Republicans and other Conservatives who tired to destroy and assasinate the person of Anita Hill were unsuccessful. I found this book to be very deep and profound and allowed my to get to know Prof. Hill. Looking back at the the Hill-Thomas affair is now interesting....it had nothing to do with truth. It was pure partisan politics and nothing more. Unfortunately Prof. Hill was caught in that war and unfortunately America has a man of very low character sitting on its highest of courts.

Rating: Summary: The Greatest Book Ever Written Review: This is the greatest book ever written. True, it is powerful, and the power lies in the truth, but truth contains no lies, and that is the very essence of power, which is rooted in truth, and the the truth is very powerful, indeed, just as powerful as it is true, and as true as it is powerful.
Rating: Summary: Insightful analysis of the trial, her life and civil rights. Review: This was a long overdue synopsis of the Hill-Thomas hearings from the perspective of Anita Hill. She opened up and gave us a glimpse of her motivation to proceed with her charges. She earns our respect with her honesty, her courage and her ideals. She is articulate, calm, and a very clear thinker. This book is a document of one of the worst moments in our current history, relayed with exceptional insight and amazing clarity of understanding. Anyone who reads this book will know the "real Anita Hill".
Rating: Summary: A lady of class and integrity. Review: What a lovely, lovely woman and with what class does she tell her story! How unfortunate that we live in a country where sexual harassment is so difficult for men to understand, and yet so pervasively cruel and persistent! And how very unfortunate that such a man as Clarence Thomas now has so much power in our government, power that we know he can not be trusted with. But how surprising is that really, today? Respect for women is hardly a qualification for office in the US Government, and it may never be if we don't all work together to make that difference -- and it's going to be a lot harder than it should be.Anita Hill is a clear, calm, concise writer with a powerful story to tell. It is not easy to speak Truth to Power, but it is an essential element of making a difference. I honor all those who take the risk. I know how difficult it can be. I also know how very important it is. Anita Hill did not choose to be harassed, and she did not choose to be a weapon, but when called, she responed, and she told the truth, as awkward as it was for her. For those who would ridicule her ordeal, I can only say that no one should have to tolerate the inappropriate sexual behavior that exists in the workplace. We know it exists on the highest level. We know better than to say it couldn't be true. And we know Anita Hill got no pleasure from answering such personal, humiliating questions. She did what was expected of her, and it was *her* integrity that suffered, *her* career that wobbled while Clarence Thomas triumphed. His judgement leaves a lot to be desired, IMHO. I honor the efforts of Ms. Hill to honor the truth of her experience.
