Rating: Summary: Truly Outstanding book for those seeking powerful living Review: Having experienced more than my share of "enlightening" coaching, seminars, experiences in my professional and personal life, I give Tom a resounding "5 stars" for a book that is currently and very powerfully changing the course of my life. What Tom has been able to do in this book, is to present a very realistic and usable road map "out" of the "normal" day to day grind that most of us (if we are willing to be honest about it) quietly suffer through. If only read, the book is entertaining and useful, but to me its real power is in using and applying its contents. In many other "how to" books and disciplines, we are left to follow rather strict and limiting paths...no so in this book. I find it extremely easy to apply in my day to day life and yet it hits very, very hard at the heart of things....once again, if you are willing to avail yourself of that. For anyone seeking coaching in having your life work out alot better than it currently is........grab this book and devote time and energy to its contents...you will be glad you did. If you get this book and it does not provide you a wealth of useful and impacting value...then you are probably comitted to a life of misery. There's alot of books out there that deliver the promise of gold but very few that truly deliver the road map to get it.....this is one of them..

Rating: Summary: Timely for my stage of development Review: Having just learned that there were options in terms of taking control of one's life and carrer (and that they are one in the same) this book read like a how-to manual for helping straigthen out the stray ideas that I was running my life with. I had all the appropriate lines in place but they were not running parallel. This book showed me how to achieve this in a graceful manner. In my case, I had the spiritual part all ironed out but thought that was enough, the "inner-team" approach helped me reconcile alot of issues that were not working out in my plan. This book is thoughtful and considerate for all readers.
Rating: Summary: Planning your work, and working your plan Review: I heard Tom speak at a business conference in Santa Fe recently and found his ideas very compelling. The book focuses on how to put those ideas into action, and I view it to be an excellent guide for organizing how I think about work, family, friends, emotional & spritual health, etc. As a 48 year old CEO, I have discovered you can help an pld dog pick a new path.
Rating: Summary: A great book on leadership with heart, soul, effectiveness. Review: I loved the easy conversational style of the author. He shares his philosophies on how to infuse heart and soul into leadership and how this approach can greatly impact your effectiveness as a leader. The book is filled with interesting anecdotes and personal stories of the author. He manages to teach many life lessons without ever coming across as preachy or "holier-than-thou." It's a fast read and definitely a book that you will leave by the bedside to refer back to after you find yourself having one of those tough days as manager!
Rating: Summary: A worthwhile read on the Mission Statement alone Review: I thought the core of the book for me was in the first 2 chapters, where the author expressed the importance of a personal mission statement, writing about his own example as well. After that, I found the book a bit repetitious. Nevertheless, the mission statement section was a worthwhile read alone, if only to stress the importance of having one for your own personal life. Just like many corporations are starting to have a mission statement, individuals should have a life mission statement. Once this mission statement is determined and articulated, your actions and choices in life can be measured against it. Part of your journey though is to think about and determine your mission statement, a journey/process of self-determination which only you can undergo.
Rating: Summary: Boring...Real Boring Review: I thought use of the title of "secrets" of success implied that one could take a shortcut to success. The reality is that only true creativity, integrity and hard work (your OWN hard work) will get your there.
Rating: Summary: Life changing Review: I was drawn to Gegax' book by the glowing enticements of Publisher's Weekly, articles in the New York Times, Fast Company, and a piece that aired on CNBC. After having the pleasure of experiencing his book I was charmed by his ideas. He has a whole new way of looking at and integrating life and work in our modern society. It is beautiful that there is discussion in the book on "Determining Your Mission". Gegax has shared his own story. After determining his life's mission, he has turned his life into one filled with love, and joy. The timing of his book coming into my awareness is perfect for me with the coming of the year 2000. I plan to implement Gegax' "Seven Take Action Steps to Manifest Your Mission" for the new year. It is comforting to know that there is a formula that can act as a quide to help me make my life more fully enriched.
Rating: Summary: Life Game Plan Review: If you're happy but feel there can be more bliss/more enjoyment, or if you're in trauma and looking for a way out, or if you sense there's trouble ahead, consider this book. My mission in writing this book was to serve up buffet style an A-Z life game plan, a plan that works, with many different plays to consider I'm often asked "'what's the secret? What's the main key or ingredient?" The bad news is there are lots of keys--determining your mission, putting a structure in place to attain it (goal setting, planning, scheduling, and time competency). Other keys are learning the six key behaviors necessary to complement the structure, then learning the importance of being well--not just 'not being sick.' These are necessary elements to have the clarity and presence of mind, as well as the energy to put the structure in place and exhibit the necessary behaviors. Finally, I share the importance of engaging in lifetime learning (sharing 10 ways to do it) and how to communicate effectively. (It's a communication problem that has become a national monster). In each element of the game plan I share what the roadblocks are to doing it well and I advise many options (plays) to incorporate to overcome the roadblocks. The result will be deeper, more successful relationships with your significant other, your parents and children, God, your career and money, and friends and community, with your achieving a relationship in each of these areas that we feel fulfilled in is what Winning in the Game of Life is all about. I believe this book to be a game plan to assist in that. I've taken the best of what I learned in the business world with the best of what I've learned in the personal growth or self help world. While these two worlds often look at each other with a jaundiced eye, I believe rather than being polar opposites, they are complementary. I show how to meld these two worlds. I also show how to integrate the plays you choose to go with in easy, time manageable ways, because by the yard it's hard and inch by inch it's a cinch. I believe you'll also enjoy the light, active narrative. Finally, for that I credit my oldest son Trent, a writer for Newsweek, who was one of my two editors. Jana Branch, a talented writer, was the other. I promise that you'll get a tremendous return of time and money if you choose to purchase Winning in the Game of Life. We authors promise a lot (I've never seen an author say 'my book is terrible!') and many do deliver a lot. I'm often asked for time to meet to mentor or share things that have worked for me. Well, in this case, I put everything I know about which I've learned in many years of playing this game called 'life.' I have approached this 'game' with a cross between a scientist and an intuitive. I have discovered what has worked and what hasn't--what got me into jams; what got me out; what has avoided crises; and what has given deep fulfillment and joy.
Rating: Summary: Pass It By Review: Just another self-help tome with metaphysical overtones. Derivative, contrived and brimming with recency, this personal journey can continue without me.
