Summary: What About Mahtob?
Review: I for one am curious about Mahtob's take on the events in her life. I believe I would have done the same thing if I were in Betty's situation (panic & run LOL,but then I am selfish and definately KNOW I am better to raise my kids than some man and a bunch of in-laws and it has NOTHING to do with what religion they might be.) HOWEVER...I know that even when we think with what seems the best of intentions, it's often one sided.

Thing is, I for one am curious about Mahtob's opinions on the events in her life. I would love for Mahtob to write a book without anyone telling her what to write or telling her what to remember is real and what was only told to her You know...a real in depth account of what happened through her own eyes.

Seriously I wonder how much Mahtob actually remembers on her own about the alleged events, not what her mother reminded or convinced or simply told her happened. Also, I wonder if now that Mahtob is an adult, if she might want to meet her Daddy (without Betty around of course) and actually hear his side from his own lips. I am DEFINATELY NOT saying any of Betty's story is untrue, I just wonder how much the child knows for sure happened.Wouldn't it be interesting to find out from the child...now adult...just how frightened or lonely or abused or intimidated she really did feel...if at all.

What the heck, it would be another book and since most everyone is interested in this family turmoil I for one would love to hear how Mahtob is doing from HER OWN point of view. Really.

Personally I hope she is emotionally mature and has been able to begin her OWN life without all the nasties involved and without feeling she has to break ties with ANY family member.

Summary: Stunning!!! A Real Eye Opener........
Review: This book is a must for women everywhere. It shows real courage in the face of deception. Betty Mahmoody describes life, as she experienced it, within the confines of both Islam and Iran. Most women (especially American women) do not know that such treatment of women in other lands and other religions exists. Having been in a similar situation myself, although thankfully I had previously read Betty Mahmoody's book, I, at least, was somewhat knowledgeable on what the circumstances would be outside of American jurisdiction and knew enough not to leave American soil. This book takes you from a somewhat gentile life in America to that of a chatoic life experienced within Iran. Your heart will be pounding with each encounter of a new persona in Betty Mahmoody's book. The book is a definite page-turner and will haunt you long after you have finished reading it.

Summary: Review
Review: First I must say that calling another reviewer an imbecile because they give this book a poor review is an immature comment to put in a review. Each person has the right to say what they think and express their opinion. To think that they don't or not to respect that privilege for everyone is UNAMERICA isn't it? Or is it simply another ethnocentric reviewer? Enough said! Now as to the book itself. I found (and it is MY opinion regardless of what anyone else thinks) that the book was of course one-sided, because it was written from one woman's story! Of course it would be considered one sided. The struggles she alleges she suffered were told from her view and from what her experience was in her circumstances. True many people aren't able to go from country to country without realizing the changes in cultures. That was my understanding from reading the book that Ms. Mahmoody did realize there could be problems but perhaps didn't realize just how many. When she got to Embassy it sounded to me as though she really believed all would be well. When indeed, she realized just how much danger there might be in the inability of keeping her little girl if she divorced her husband, she did what she had to do to secure her daughter's and her own return to the U.S. I was in a similar situation with two children in a foreign country so I applaud her decisions!

Summary: An amazing heart gripping novel
Review: Any one who rated this book poorly is an imbecile. This is an incredible story of a brave woman who got out of Iran against all odds. It is not fictionalized in the least and it is an amazing tale of true courage.

Summary: One For The Actual Writer
Review: One Star for the actual writer. His ability to gather your trust and excitement with words is quite good. As to the story itself, I must say that I took it as total fiction from the story of a woman who has failed at more than one marriage and who was frightened of being in a place where she was not in control as she was while in America. Some people are simply unable to go to any other place than an area they are born or raised in and make a success of it. Also I know the area and many people from the area claimed in the book and it was simply laughable for me. Realizing the ethnocentricity of most people in Betty's shoes, I excused the emotional and irrational acts (my opinion) she engaged in or claimed to engage in. One should stop and remember that when someone will not or says they cannot produce people who will collaborate their claims, then the story might just be aggravated by someone who is trying to prove their own point of events in a nasty marital situation. "Those who have a bit more experience in life-will question the motives of the wife. Those ethnocentric and still naive are those without question will always believe."

Summary: Excellent for any American considering marrying a foreigner.
Review: This is a true story. Of that I have no doubt. My husband and I have and Iranian friend (married to an American) who says that women in his country can be treated as Betty was with no redress. Though his wife has expressed an interest in going there, he won't take her. Since the Ayotolla took over, his whole family moved to America.

Those people who write otherwise are male and were brought up in Islamic socieities, where women are are chattel. We know a few Islamic couples, (not well) but well enough to see how subservient the woman acts with her husband in the presence of others.

Summary: A great book!!
Review: This story was extremely suspenseful, I couldn't put the bookdown!! Betty proved to all the world the depths of her love for herdaughter, and I hope wherever they are now, that they are doing well.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great book, I couldn't put it down!
Review: This book was amazing, it was hard to put it down, I read it day and night! Though I found Betty to be occasionally annoying with her complaints with the Iranian culture, I found her story and her love for her daughter grabbing. This book shows the strong division of cultures and people, and is a great read.
