Summary: This book will, in a good way, make you wanna holler !
Review: I read this book four years ago, after much persuasion from a male friend. When I finally started to read the book, I could not put it down. It really opened my eyes to the situations and peer pressure that young African-American men go through. It also made me aware of the situations that young African-American females could get themselves into. It was an excellent book that reads like fiction. I have since talked my mother and several of my sister-friends into reading it. It will definitely be my next book club choice. A MUST READ !!!

Summary: FINALLY- A BLACK MAN TELLING IT LIKE IT IS!!
Review: I was actually in my junior year in college when I read this book, and I finished it in 2 days. I was living in Virginia Beach when I was reading this, so I could relate to all of the neighborhoods that he was describing. I felt so proud that a black man was finally being straight about all of the nonsense that black males endure as well as the nonsense they dish out. He is truthful about his past life, and the devious things he participated in with his "friends," if that is what you want to call them. He showed how he went from being a boy to a man, and the consequences he suffered for his actions. The book is an eye-opener for all of America, making people aware that not all black men are uneducated, and some of them do know right from wrong. I personally believe that all men could learn from the actions of this author. He comes straight at you-no chaser. This is a quick read, but most of all, it is an important read. I thoroughly enjoyed his autobiography for its in-depth look at gangs,The Nation of Islam, and the way the way society has depicted our black men. This book will have you in thought long after you have finished.

Summary: Emotional Powerhouse, A Powerful Tour-de-force
Review: This book was extremely good it was like I was watching a movie. I am 16 year old black male and I read the book 2 years ago. I never got to finish the book I only read until around page 350 something and then I lost the book. The book really was emotional and it made me mad to live in America, but I came to my own realization that even though we lack certain freedoms, I am still glad to live in America. I recommend this book to people but this book made me angry and very militant at this country, the justice system and the social conditions of Black people in America. If you are not militant, this book will make you a solider. You must read this book to understand where I am coming from.

Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!
Review: I truly enjoyed reading every page of this book. I find it so inspiring that Mr.McCall was able to edure so much and grow from those experiences in his life. This is definitely a book I feel that all young African American males should read. I first came to know about this book about a year or two ago when Mr.McCall came to my university for a lecture. I enjoyed the lecture and said i wanted to read this book one day. The book also came up in my ethics class one day. We read the passage where Mr.McCall was thinking that he wanted to be like the white children his grandmother helped raise. The discussion in that class helped me desiding to read the book. I am now a 22 year old student at the University of South Florida majoring in special education. Many of the things in this book truly hit home with me. Not exactly the same way but i can definitely relate. Once again I would like to say to anyone and everyone if you only read one book in your life please place this one on your top 5 list. It is very much well worth it.

Summary: Powerful!!!!!!!
Review: Brother Nathan and I are about the same age. I am an African-American woman who has been humiliated by the reckless behaviors of males such as Brother Nathan in his youth. I still carry the scars and found it difficult to get through the beginning of his book. I had to keep going back to the cover and telling myself that he must have turned his life around since he put his photo on the cover. I was relieved to watch him turn his life around. I ended up feeling very pround to have him in the African-American family. I have recommended the book to many. Thanks, Brother Nathan !!!!!!!!!

Summary: Excellent, could not have been more truthful and real.
Review: Nathan McCall did an excellent job depicting life as a young, black man in america. Him telling of his actual life brought everything down to earth. Any African-American can relate to some of the situations he described. The way society is today, I agree with Mr. McCall; ...."it makes me wanna holler, and throw up both my hands!" I consider Mr. McCall A very positve role model for young, black men as well as myself, a young, black woman.

Summary: Literary Masterpiece
Review: A must read for any conscious black male in America. Definite Satisfaction. Nathan McCall's self-analysis is on point and poignant.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A "Must-Read" book by every high school student in U.S.A.
Review: This book is a mixture of life expereinces that I am sure many African-American males coming of age can relate. Touching, disturbing, funny and totally honest, McCall 's chronicle is from the heart - a man who experienced a spiritual awakening and later realized all the blessings he had and nearly abandoned. I highly recommend that this book become required reading for all high school students.
