Rating: Summary: Not much for blood-and-gutsers to chew on Review: Although this is another great example of dialogue and a look into human behavior by Cornwell, it was rather a disappointment to my blood-desiring soul. And there was no Kay Scarpetta! Alas, I like character Andy Brazil and was glad at his return and the sexual tension between him and the icy officer Virginia West. I would never tell readers not to read a Cornwell book, but I would definitely recommend her others over this one!
Rating: Summary: It's All Downhill From Here... Review: This book is a real disappointment. The main characters are stereotypical, career-obsessed, single old people who have NO computer skills whatsoever. Most of the plot is based on the concept that kids today are totally screwed up and spend half their time hacking and the other half killing other kids (which is obviously not true since I'm here writing this review!). Patricia Cornwell is focusing on quantity, not quality, and it's showing in her recent novels. I would recommend either giving this book to someone you don't like or taking it camping, reading it, then use it to keep the campfire burning long into the night.
Rating: Summary: Having an Open Mind is the key Review: I enjoyed this book immensely. It was much better than Hornet's Nest. Like everyone else, I love the Scarpetta series and found it tough to head down a different road with this series. However, I'm glad I didn't listen to the critics and took a chance with this book. Southern Cross hits the nail on the head with alot of people in the world. The characters are intriguing and complex. I hope she continues with this series so readers can experience the main characters all the more. I hope that in the future, this series and the Scarpetta series will result in all the characters meeting up. Something tells me that Marino and Hammer would make the perfect couple. Thinking dog and all! Lighten up critics - if every book was a Scarpetta thriller, you wouldn't have a thing to complain about!
Rating: Summary: How did this ever make NY Times #1? Review: Pets that type on the computer & arrange the love lives of their owners. Dialogue that comes from another planet. If you like these things, you'll love this book
Rating: Summary: Not a humorist Review: Ms. Cornwell should stick to what she does best; thrillers. I trudged through to the end of this book so I could feel credible about writing a review. It was slow-paced and generally dull. The attempts at comedy were trite and forced; "Butner Fluck III?" Puleeeeeze! I've read and enjoyed all Ms Cornwell's other works, including "Hornets' Nest", but this was definitely not worth my money, even in paperback.
Rating: Summary: A Disappointment Review: I have enjoyed many of Patricia Cornwell's books. But when the dog began to have thought pocesses, it totally lost me. After only thirty pages, I just couldn't keep reading...
Rating: Summary: What this book needs is a good medical examiner! Review: Disappointment doesn't cover my feelings for this book. What happened to Patricia Cornwell? Who has kidnapped her and is writing books using her name? Please -- let's pay the ransom and get both her and Scarpetta back! I don't think an autopsy is necessary to determine what made this book stink. It just goes to show that a good book isn't necessary to get a good Amazon ranking.
Rating: Summary: Southern Cross Review: Patricia Cornwell has been a favorite of mine over the years but this book is trash. I read 50 pages and threw it in the trash. It has no redeeming qualities.
Rating: Summary: Not worth your money Review: I usually enjoy Ms Cornwell's stories (Scarpetta is OK) but this book was really bad. The plot is thinner than ice and the dialouge is extremely halting and ludicrous most of the time. Save your money. Don't buy this book.
Rating: Summary: The worst book I have ever read. Review: Southern Cross has to be the worst book I have ever read. The story went around in circles and never amounted to anything worth my time. As I read, I kept hoping it would get better, but it never did. Ms. Cornwell would be better served by forgetting about this series.
