Rating: Summary: The Prophetess is profound Review: On the eve of the Millennium, Dr. Alexander unearths a cache ofscrolls which reveal a hidden religious history that governments, millionaires & the clergy will stop at nothing to suppress. From the beginning Barbara Wood has created a fast-paced, absorbing read, with some strange perspectives, her heroine a bit of an innocent & some rather nasty, unlikely foes. I found Barbara Wood's idea of a prophetess with that kind of information & pedigree, stimulating; her facts & fiction, fascinating. A super read! ...
Rating: Summary: This book was hard to put down, I urge everyone to read it. Review: The plausability of the story could be questionable before it is read, but the Biblical history was well done. Also the futuristic computer technology worked well. I am now anxious for the paperback so I can afford a copy for every reader I know. This title was recommended to me by a high school boy,and I have discussed it with two additional generations that also enjoyed it. It dealt well with several tough topics(ie. celebate priests and church interventions of the secular world) but it was done tactfully
Rating: Summary: A Profound Read Review: The Prophetess tackles a deep and fascinating subject. Although it is somewhat outdated now that we have already crossed the Y2K barrier, it still is a wonderful read. Archaeoligist Catherine Alexander makes a startling discovery of some ancient scrolls in Egypt which hold manifold secrets that can change the world. With the millennial Zeitgeist at full throttle, the scrolls hold a pertinent message about the world on the threshold of the 21st century. Many greedy parties are after these valuable scrolls, and Catherine is in a race against time and the people after her as she spans continents in search of the secret of the scrolls. The book has an exciting sequence of events and a powerful climax. A great book!
Rating: Summary: A new twist on a very old theme. Review: The Prophetess was a very well written and researched novel. It takes the oldest story known (the Bible) and adds a new twist to some of the stories that are found there. The author has obviously gone to a lot of trouble to find unusual links to obscure biblical references and spins it all into a story that will inspire hope while entertaining you at the same time
Rating: Summary: Exciting and absorbing! Review: This book has everything: suspense, action, mystery, religion, romance. I found the scroll narratives to be very interesting, keeping the interest of the reader and adding to the development of the present-day story. I didn't want to put this book down and it left me wanting more.
Rating: Summary: Startling and exciting thriller! Review: This book is one of the best I've read in ages. Barbara Wood takes us on a thrilling adventure with Catherine Alexander a top-notch archaelogist who is uncovering the secrets of the past and startling facts that could shake the foundation of the world as we know it. It is so very very hard to put this book down. I was even reading it while eating. I recommend it to everybody. You will not be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: A total waste of my time Review: This book is the silliest piece of nonsense I've encountered in a VERY LONG time. The writing is sophomoric and at the level of a discount-store romance novel. The author seems to know very little (nothing?) about the Catholic church and church history. I stuck with reading the entire book because I thought it might be amusing in a B-movie way (something so bad that it's funny), but the book isn't even worth the time on that level - it's boring and predictable. NOT RECOMMENDED!
Rating: Summary: A great find! Review: This book was recommended to me by a friend and I wish I had read it sooner! I enjoyed all aspects of the book, the digs, the biblical referencing and the interpertations of the scrolls! I wasn't too keen on the computer jargon, but you didn't need to be a computer wiz to understand the jest of it. It was well written and obviously well researched! Being it was recommended to me, I therefore would recommend it anyone who enjoys a cat and mouse chase! (no pun intended) Also, just for the historical and bibllical aspect, if nothing else. I was intriqued by Catherine and her strong will to vindicate her mother and what her mother stood for. It's a fast read and a real page turner!
Rating: Summary: A little better written than a Hardy Boy book. Review: This had an excellent subject, the turn of the millenium and hidden scrolls, but the writing was as childish as a paperback romance novel. It did inspire me, though. I felt if this can get published, maybe I can to. It inspired me to take a writing course.
Rating: Summary: A first rate book on so many levels... Review: This is a book that once finished, you think about for many days to come. I could hardly put it down, and was anxious to pick it up again. Bravo!
