Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: This book isn't just funny, it's hilarious. The prose isn't just sparkling, it's luminous. I have never read anything like this. Oh, wait, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh was almost as good.
Rating: Summary: More mature than other works, all of which I liked. Review: Wonder Boys is a great novel for anyone who has tried to write. Also, it is fun. This book shows a bit more maturity, both emotionally and stylistically than his previous efforts. He is the best young writer we have.
Rating: Summary: Funny and fast Review: I work in a library and was asked to suggest some funny books - this was the next one I read and I'm definitely recommending it. A good laugh, quite a light read - just right for a rainy day or an aeroplane flight. But I wonder how anyone could be surprised by the predictable plot - isn't it just typical of every novel you've ever read about American academics?
Rating: Summary: Michael Chabon is the best writer I have ever read. Review: He is clearly the most talented under 40 writer in America. Wonder Boys Rocks! Everyone should read it, and then re-read Mysteries of Pittsbugh. I wait with great anticipation for his next novel.
Rating: Summary: I wish I had thought of that! Review: Have you ever read something and then thought to yourself, "Man, I wish I had thought of that"? That's how I felt as I was reading this uproariously funny and touching novel by Chabon. From the first page I was hooked. It will make you laugh out loud.
Rating: Summary: Not Good Review: I read a bit of this, then skimmed the rest. I could pick out the plot points like they were flags on a golf course. Literary fiction is supposed to be pure, with no tricks. Well, this had plotting as awkward as the worst John Grisham novel. And its pretentious use of language made me cringe at times. If Chabon is the best literary writer under 40 (as some say he is), then MTV really has destroyed some minds.
Rating: Summary: CHABON IS TALENTED... Review: "Find out what each character cares most about in the world because then you will have discovered what's at stake." (Anne Lamott) Wonder Boys exemplifies this recomendation. Michael Chabon makes fiction look easy. Wonder Boys is a well crafted exhilarating read. Enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Michael Chabon is fast and funny and very, very good! Review: Have you been wanting to do Pittsburg, not just the standard tourist walkabout followed by a dinner cruise on the Monongahela - but really DO Pittsburg? If that's your heart's desire, Cousin, then hop in the back seat of Grady Tripp's '66 fly-green Galaxy ragtop and let Michael Chabon do the driving. The extremely talented young author will give you a nocturnal view of the city that might even startle the mayor. And if Chabon puts the top down and it gets a bit too chilly, there should be a jacket with an ermine collar in the back seat. Yes, it is the one that Marilyn Monroe was wearing when she married Joe DiMaggio. Go ahead, put it on. Live a little! WONDER BOYS is a marvelous read! I haven't enjoyed a book this much since THE MYSTERIES OF PITTSBURG - Chabon's 1988 bestselling first novel. The man writes intensely and intelligently. Go ahead, read him for yourself. Live a little!
Rating: Summary: Keep well Mr. Chabon Review: When I first read this wonderful book when it first came out, I actually offered a prayer for the author's good mental and physical health. I asked God to keep Mr. Chabon well and with us long enough to mature into the next shining light of American fiction, which I believe he will be. This book is a first-rate example of a novel that is not just good, witty, funny, sophisticated, but in the end leaves you more human than you were before you read it. I have picked it up over and over. Thank you Mr. Chabon
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: Best book I have read in quite a while. Michael Chabon is definitely one of the future great writers. Chabon's book
is a much needed satirical look at many of the things we take to seriously. His characters, including some who are gay, mesh well. Chabon did an outstanding job of making the reader see things a little differently, and that was refreshing
