Summary: Makes the Readers Look on the Inside of Themselves
Review: A wonderful love story and about the endurance of the human spirit. Be ready to get the kleenex out. You will need it sooner or later.

Summary: And Excellent Book
Review: AS always Mr. Evans has written a beautiful story that goes straight to the heart. He is to be commended for his continuous great work.. I loved everything he has ever written.

Another book that I would higly suggest to everyone .. .is the most beautiful love stoy I have ever read. .. Stolen Moments by Barbara Jeanne Fisher/ What a beautiful story of unrequited love. . .for certain the love story of the nineties." I intended to give the book a quick read, but I got so caught up in the story that I couldn't put the book down. From the very beginning, I was fully caught up in the heart-wrenching account of Julie Hunter's battle with lupus and her growing love for Don Lipton. This love, in the face of Julie's impending death, makes for a story that covers the range of human emotions. The touches of humor are great, too, they add some nice contrast and lighten things a bit when emotions are running high. I've never read a book more deserving of being published. It has rare depth. Julie's story will remind your readers that life and love are precious and not to be taken for granted. It has had an impact on me, and for that I'm grateful.

Summary: Message is good, but book lacks depth
Review: Evans developed some interesting characters, but I finished the book feeling unsatisfied. First, facts were sacrificed in the interest of literary drama. For example, his depiction of wolf behavior is beyond belief. His message is very worthwhile. A little more research and a little more time spent inside the characters' heads would have made the book more memorable.

Review: Excellent effort in every way. Very satisfying.

Summary: What A Waste
Review: Had this been the first book I'd ever read by this author, it certainly would have been the last! As it turns out, I have previously purchased other books by Mr. Evans that I really enjoyed. I read for pleasure. If I want something deeply disappointing I can pick up a newspaper or listen to the news on TV. I found the main character to be a pious martyr who (possibly) got no better than what he deserved. Most of what he went through (for years) was self-inflicted. I was furious and deeply disappointed with the ending. So much so that I threw the book down when I saw what was happening at the end. It took 2 days before I picked it back up to finish it. I came away feeling very cheated over the several hours I had wasted reading it. There was such shallowness and self-rightousness in the characters. And no one was happy! Like I said, had this been the first of his books I had read, it would definitely be the last. If I want depressing, I'll read War & Peace. Until then, most of us would choose to have a happy ending.

Summary: Ordinary
Review: I did not find this work very stirring. The characters lacked depth. The story skimmed over several issues.

Summary: The Looking Glass: A Novel
Review: I have read all of Mr. Evans works, and continue to find his writings so touching they bring me to tears. Not only did Quaye find herself again and realize that she was worthy of love, Hunter was able to show his daughter his love through Quaye. How many of us are as selfless as Hunter? Who of us would put ourselves in harms way to save another. Truly inspirational.

Summary: WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE?
Review: I have read every book by Mr. Evans and loved every one of them. ..I think the Christmas Box is still my favorite, but this one is great as well. What a splendid author to keep coming up with such treasures! If you want to read another book that goes straight to your heart, read Stolen Moments by Barbara Jeanne Fisher. . .It is a beautiful story of unrequited love. . .for certain the love story of the nineties. Stolen Moments is written with so much sensitivity that it made me want to cry. It is a spellbinder. What terrific writing. Barbara does have an exceptional gift!

Summary: Healing Book
Review: I have read every one of Mr. Evans' books, and find that he only gets better! The Looking Glass, as well as The Locket and the Christmas Box trilogy have helped me to heal differences between myself and my children and mother. I know that each book will require at least 3 hankies or 1 box of tissues, but that is okay, because tears heal. I believe that part of the message he is trying to send is that "it is okay to cry", and cry I do, when I read his books.

Summary: good but not GREAT
Review: i have read most of his other books with great joy. they have always managed to touch me in some way. however, this one didn't touch me as much as the others. like other people, i was hoping for a happy ending, but the poignant one that was created was just as good.

i think one of the things i didn't like about the book was that with the title being "the looking glass," i assumed that the looking glass would play a larger part in the story--much the was the christmas box, the letter, the locket and the timepiece each played in their respective stories. other than it being mentioned only 2 times in the entire book, it has no bearing. sure--it is a symbol for her broken trust, but that was it.

i liked the action in the story & how quaye was able to overcome her fear of jak and learn to trust again. i liked how hunter stood up for sonny & fixed it so that no one would harass them again. This may not have been an absolute truthful portrayal of gold mining communities in the west, but it was artfully done and the book itself is inspirational. A good read for a wintry day.
