Summary: It could happen to you
Review: I really enjoyed this book. The plot was fast moving and exciting. I was always looking forward to what was going to happen next. Poor Ned had so much go wrong all at once.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great beach/airplane book
Review: I read this book on a recent vacation in about 2.5 days. Great literature it's not, but a great page-turner it is, especially if you've ever been in sales or worked in a big company. The style reminds me of early Sydney Sheldon or Irwin Shaw - fast paced and fun to read in that you really want to find out what comes next.

Summary: Kennedy touches all the bases
Review: As a thriller, this book is certainly serviceable, albeit formulaic. Kennedy knows how to set up a scenario. Halfway through the book, I found myself empathizing with Ned. But the pacing of the last half of the book was off, as if Kennedy got tired of his own story.

Summary: A page turner!!
Review: Formulaic? Yes. Reminiscent of John Grisham? Sure. A real page turner? You betcha!!! "THE JOB", Douglas Kennedy's follow up to his terrific debut novel "THE BIG PICTURE", is a rollicking good read, and like his first book, deals with the Hitchcockian dilemma of a good man tripped up by fate. Ned Allen, an ad salesman for a successful computer magazine, seems to have it all---a beautiful wife, a Manhattan apartment. Then his company is sold, and he's fired. On the verge of losing everything, he takes what seems to be a job too good to be true, and discovers he has become a pawn in a dangerous game. Kennedy has an easy way with narrative, and sharp, witty dialogue that keeps you obsessively turning pages. His two books prove he's great at what he does, and I eagerly await his next book!!!

Summary: i really enjoyed this book. entertaining!
Review: i enjoyed this book very much and mite give it a 5 star except i felt the last quarter of the book seemed rushed. it was missing something. stil it was a good read. i live in greenwich and enjoyed reading a book partially set in my backyard. i never read doug k. before but i will try another of his books.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Don't start this at night, you'll never get to sleep!
Review: I truly could not put this book down. After I got through the slow beginning, I just couldn't wait to see what was going to happen. The characters were extraordinary. I felt their emotions and their pain. I would like to read more of this author.

Summary: Just like "The Firm".Great devt, pageturner, poor ending
Review: The Job had very interesting characters, some clever plot twists, but, just like The Firm, the ending was hastily put together and did not fit with the tone and buildup. Also, Kennedy could have found another "crime" to center the thriller around, other than off-shore money laundering and having the protagonist be the bag man. I guess the author was thinking too much about having Tom Cruise as the hero. Oh well. Good beach book, but again, Doug Kennedy seemed to do a "cut and paste" job during the last 35% of the book.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: a quick read
Review: I enjoyed Mr Kennedy's previous book, but this one is far better. The end comes too fast, like the author realized that he has a page quota or something. However, the rest of the novel moves at a quickening pace, the rise and fall of Ned allen is entertaining as hell!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Wow! what a read!
Review: This book was a read..if this is what work is all about nowadays, just as glad I am semi-retired and self-employed!!!

The author did his homework, with respect to the Old Greenwich, CT area. The streets mentioned do exist, and do intersect with one another as portrayed in the novel. However, one sight technical difference. Without disclosing the plot, though, there is reference to a railroad grade crossing in Old Greenwich. Sorry, but there is not a single grade crossing on the "Metro-North New Haven Line" anywhere on that line.

Otrherwise, a great read; recommend to anyone whom has ever had to work for a living!!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: good summer read
Review: pretty good read, real quick, the ending should have been a little different.
