Summary: Best Savored Slowly
Review: Ok, I repent. I have never read a Max Lucado book before. Just about everyone I know has, but I found excuse after excuse to avoid reading them. In do not know why. Maybe I figured that I had more important, or more entertaining reading to do. But the truth be told, I have never been a big fan of devotional books. But then I received this book as a birthday present from two dear friends in my church and what a blessing it has been.

Lucado is a master of the English language. You will not find more beautiful prose written anywhere. It is simply beautiful. Lucado takes a look at the life of Christ as if Christ is your neighbor next door. Thus, the book has a contemporary feeling. We are not reading about something that happened in ancient times, but we are learning how the living Christ is working in the world around us. Not only is this a well-written book, it is an insightful book as well. The author has a way of looking at well know verses in a fresh new way. And yes, he even gave me insight to Scripture that I had overlooked. Written in short chapters, it lends itself to being read devotionally- one chapter per day. You cannot rush Lacado. It is not a quick read. It is too insightful, to beautiful to speed-read. This is one good book.

Summary: Jesus, the guy next door
Review: This book has brought the Gospels to life for me. Max Lucado puts a "down home" spin on familiar stories from the life of Jesus that reveal his closeness to humanity. Yes, he is our Savior. Yes, he never sinned. However, that does not mean that he is distant. That does not mean that he fails to understand our struggles, fears and pain.

Next Door Savior is a collection of 21 powerful essays that remind us that there is no person that Jesus won't touch (Part 1), and there is no place that Jesus won't go (Part 2) as our Savior. Lucado's stories will leave you laughing, crying and marvelling at the wonderful sacrifice Jesus has made for us.

Next Door Savior will help you grow from knowing *of* Jesus, to really knowing Him on a personal level, and being certain of His presence in your life.

Summary: Bravo... Encore !
Review: This book is a must for all Lucado fans, if you like Lucado you'll love next door Savio(u)r A whistle stop tour of the life of Christ and the people He interacts with. A combination of finely crafted word pictures and Max's chatty style make this a classic.

I was disappointed however that it ended so soon, I wanted to read more about Jesus my next door Saviour... crashing into the Study Guide when I thought there was still a quarter of the book remaining... be warned.

And what's that mailbox all about ?

Summary: What if God lived next door?
Review: This book is aimed at a person who may not consider him/herself especially religious, reminding us that Jesus deliberately befriended such people, even those whose lives had made them totally rejected by the society of "normal" people of that day.

People today who are not of the church-going type, for whatever reason, may not picture God as being particularly concerned or caring about their needs and issues. They know they have failed to be the "saints" whom they picture as deserving God's attention.

Lucado shows that if Jesus came to town today, he would probably seek them out first, and listen to their problems. And suddenly, a person who has been resisting the whole idea of Jesus and religion my find her/himself completely won over by his love.

But there is a great message here for the followers of Jesus as well, encouraging us to turn the struggles of our lives over to him.
