Summary: Carlin a genius.
Review: This book is hysterical. That's the bottom line. But not only is it hysterical, it's brilliant. Carlin's observations about politics, religion, and the game of golf are right on point. And anyone who can make these things funny is a genius. Everyone should read this, even if they are offended. Because like it or not, a lot of it is very true.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Warning: Not for the Sensitive Reader!
Review: George once again nails every type of person, including himself. His crass views are unapologetic and raw. If you can laugh at people's faults, hobbies, and habits (including your own), then I highly recommend this book. If not, then maybe you should pass over it. There's no sugar-coating of americana here.

Summary: I'm a Carlin fan, but...
Review: the reason my rating isn't 5 stars is because alot of the material here is stuff I already heard, either from CDs/mp3 files or on his HBO comedy hour specials. However, if you haven't managed to hear/read any of this stuff before, consider the rating a solid 5. It was 3 for me only because I knew some of the punchlines already.

Summary: People were looking at me
Review: I have loved Carlin's humor ever since I was young. His analyzation of the human condition and his usage and examination of the English language and it's application - plus a good dose of unneeded swearing just for good measurement.

It's true Geoge is recycling his material - about 85% of what is included in here we have already heard on his HBO specials and on records, but it's still funny.

I took it too the beach for some light reading and was laughing out loud so hard I was in tears and many beachgoers were staring at me.

If you like George's humor you will enjoy.

Summary: Carlin shows his age...
Review: From a fan of Mr Carlin... I like some of the pithy aphorisms here. This one needed some editing. For example, the bit about not needing to wash hands after using the bathroom was a bit much. Perhaps senility sets in? Other than the few low points, though, the book does have some merit.

Summary: Napalm and silly putty
Review: This book is great. I found it funny, witty, and have loved it since i frist opened the cover.
Odd name, odd subjects (dysfunctanl family comericals) and things we never really think about (how many bowel movements have been made since man walked the earth)
Great book/cd, and i recommend it to all the people who can take a joke, and are ready for a good laugh.
However, some poeple just wont like it, why you ask. They cant take a joke, (and a lot of swearing, a lot)

Summary: Blech!
Review: I got one good laugh out of this material--the very first joke. After that, I found myself listening to a guy who just sounds like a mean old crank with unfunny, newspaper-columnist musings. Don't get me wrong--Carlin can be hysterical, but this stuff is borderline reprehensible (especially the stuff about children and airline security). If you want some laughs that *aren't* so mean-spirited, listen to Bill Cosby.

Summary: Carlin documents his stand-up well.
Review: Carlin fans will find most of the material in this book familiar as it is also seen in his stand-up (which is okay, most comedians do that).
The nice things about the book is that its written in a variety of styles and in short sections...so it makes for an easy pick it up and read a bit anytime.(but that also means nothing may grab you to finish the entire book quickly) There are no real chapters nor table of contents and the subject matter changes frequently (even aside from the breaks of "short takes" which are much like his "Brain Droppings" one sentence observations)
Some of the material is thought provoking, some of it is just silly. Some of it is just thrown out there to see what bites and move on. You will find yourself laughing aloud, especially when caught off guard by an absurd "short take".
To appreciate the humor, I also found it helpful to really have Carlin's voice and delivery style in your head (watch a recent HBO special to get familiar with it). Without that definite "Carlin" rythm, you may miss the pure comedy to the writing.

Overall, you will find this smart comedy and although some of it seems quickly assembled, it does contain purpose and thought.
A word of warning: For those not familiar with Mr.Carlin, there is a fair share of obscene language, religious satire, and other possibly offensive subject matter. With that all said, enjoy!

Summary: So funny my stomach hurt from laughing...
Review: I read the Amazon's 26 pages of excerpts and loved Carlin's regular rantings about all of the idiosyncracies in life. He is a master of pointing out all the funny, but odd truths in our world.
