Rating: Summary: Best Book Ever! Review: When I bought Napalm and Silly Putty a while ago, I was expecting everything I got. A book that made me laugh...! I've always loved George Carlin, ever since the first time I heard of him. I love Napalm and Silly Putty to death. I've memorized almost all the jokes, and they still make me laugh to death. Carlin is truly the world's best comedian. I recomend this book to anyone and everyone
Rating: Summary: Still funny Review: I bought this book about a year ago and still makes me laugh. Yes, he sort of attacks some people there, but they deserve it by having killed thousand of innocents, or just being plain despicable. If you want happy happy joy comedy don't buy this book,go turn on your TV and wait for a Golden Girls reruns, its guaranteed they won't mention your preferred politicians :)
Rating: Summary: Thinking person's comic? By neanderthal standards! Review: George Carlin has no logic, no common sense, and complains about things that don't matter at all. Let me give you some samples of his idiocies.--In the section "it's not a sport", he gives the most ridiculous and arbitrary rules for determining whether something is a sport, is totally inconsistent in his critiques, and clearly bases it entirely on his own personal feelings: if he finds it enjoyable, it's a sport, if not, it's not a sport. Pure fallacy! --In one section he makes one of his few enlightened statements, that death is nothing to be afraid of, etc. But in another, he disses the people who want the plug pulled if they end up on life support. Inconsistent AND hypocritical! --He also makes fun of people who criticize politicians, saying "if you're so dissatisfied with politics, why don't you run for office". Carlin clearly doesn't realize that politics is something easier said than done, and consequently many people do know what must be done, but wouldn't be capable of doing it themselves. He seriously needs to think a little harder concerning these matters. Regarding most of his rants, all I have to say is, "who cares?" What difference does it make if we refer to different types of rage even if they're all the same? Why should I bother about all these little details that have no effect on my life? Forget it! Stand-up comics, especially Carlin, suffer from all the aforementioned stupidity and more! If you want to hear cynicism or deep thoughts about the world, grab a philosophy book for crying out loud! Nietzsche, Russell, Schopenhauer, Sade, all had some great insights, except that, unlike George Carlin, they actually had common sense! So don't read this book. It's not worth your time.
Rating: Summary: Sad to see Carlin crash and burn Review: I am a 44 year-old guy who has been a life-long George Carlin fan. I could see the "end" coming with "Brain Droppings" when he began to mix the morose, macabre, and grotesque into his act. Carlin's early appeal was based upon his "likeability" and his good-natured jabs at things we do and say every day that under the semantic microscope, seem silly. Unfortunately, his unmatched style and wit have given way to a perverse "stream of consciousness" that leaves me depressed and cold. He has become inhuman. There are too many references to his love of death, destruction, and evil. He attacks well-known people with a fervor that suggests that Carlin has become absolutely miserable. This book saddens me. A man that I once revered as a lively, brilliant, and hilariously funny entertainer has become a crude and viscious curmudgeon. NOT a funny book. Just a book with a couple of funny lines.
Rating: Summary: Napalm & SIlly Putty Review: This is an incredably funny book. Every page is fillef with a million laughs. The way that the book is seporated with "short takes" in between chapters can give you a quick laugh. if you are a fan of George carlin and his stand up act you will love this book. it is a complete riot. i would definatly recomend this book for anyone that can take a little rough language and a whole lot of laughs
Rating: Summary: Always a Pleasure Review: Once again Carlin knocks us out with one punch after another. A real treat. If you like this book, you might also like "Delano" by John Orozco. There's another really funny book.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious! Review: This book is awesome. George Carlin once again proves that he is the master when it comes to comedy. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a lot of laughs from one book, and also has a good humour. this book was not intended for the faint-of-heart or the easily offended. However, if you pack some good humour, you will not be sorry you bought this book. i would also recommend Brain Droppings, to go with this, it's just as hilarious. If you want to laugh your a** off again and again, buy this book! The best part about it is, you'll laugh even when your reading it for a third time. mcl
Rating: Summary: Mediocre, At Best Review: Jokes about rape are not only inappropriate, they're also not funny. There's no way to make them funny, no matter what kind of a spin you put on them. I wish that somebody would have given this helpful hint to George Carlin. That stupid joke about rape serves as a very good anecdote of the quality of this book, or in my opinion, the lack thereof. I've always thought of Carlin as a mediocre comedian, at best, and the fact that this is some of the worst stuff that he's put out should serve to tell a prospective reader that this book just isn't worth it. Don't even bother with this book.
Rating: Summary: Discovering Gold` Review: This was the first George Carlin book I have ever read, and I was completely astounded. The comedy in this book simply kept me in stitches, and from time to time I will open to a random page, begin to read, and fall down laughing. My particular favorites were his sections on praying to Joe Pesci, sports, and an interview with Jesus. I plan to read Brain Droppings and to buy his other albums as well.
