Rating: Summary: Even better then Brain Droppings Review: Brain Droppings was a great book, but this one is even better and a bit funnier. I don't know why this book is given 3.5 stars overall, if you don't know who George Carlin is or don't like him why would you buy his book anyway. If you've seen Carlin's stand up then you should like the book.
Rating: Summary: The ranting of a foul-mouthed prophet Review: "Napalm & Silly Putty" is a collection of rants and quips by comic George Carlin. Nothing is sacred when Carlin gets going. He mines humor from such topics as religion, ethnic pride, AIDS, the Columbine shootings, Jeffrey Dahmer, plane crashes, cancer, capital punishment, and much more. The book contains "Short Takes" (pieces not more than a few sentences long) and longer routines. Among the pieces are a merciless denunciation of golf and Tiger Woods, a program for an avant-garde play, "The 20th Century World Hostility Scoreboard," and a look at "The Humorous Side of Rape." Particularly scathing is his critique of the first Persian Gulf war. Carlin reads like an angry, foul-mouthed prophet who is intent on mercilessly exposing the stupidity and hypocrisy of American society. He is often at his best when deconstructing the Orwellian language we use to enslave our own minds. He really lives up to his creed: "I believe you can joke about anything." So brace yourself and dive into this politically incorrect (in so many ways!) tirade.
Rating: Summary: Organized Crime Review: Again, George has highlighted many daily mental notes that we make to ourselves (though refusing to share with those who crave our valid opinions). I love him for it! And I'm impressed with the fact that Napalm & Silly Putty is substantially more organized, and well put-together, than Brain Droppings.
Still, both books have made my day! I cannot wait to read his latest.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as Brain Droppings Review: I was very dissapointed with this book. I think that I only laughed out loud maybe five times while reading it. Don't get me wrong I still think that George Carlin is still one of the greatest comedians of all time, but this book is mostly recycled material from his old stand-up routines. It has been a few years since I read Brain Droppings but I definatly remember flying on a plane and having to put it down because I was laughing too hard. I gues that I would reccomend this book only if you are not familiar with any of Carlin's stand-up. Otherwise check out Brain Droppings.
Rating: Summary: Laughed so hard it hurt Review: This book is hilarious Carlin ranting. If you can think of no other reason, buy this book for the last section: "Seven Death Wishes." I still laugh so hard that tears come when I read this section. Extremely funny stuff!
Rating: Summary: Side Spliiting Laughs Review: It has been a really long time since I have laughed so hard. George Carlin has to be one of the funniest comics ever. The book doesn't deal with any one subject in particular. He covers everything from, airport security, dogs & cats, germs, driving and so much more. There's nothing fancy in this book, it's just superb adult humor. He tells it like it is. I don't think anyone or anything is safe from the mockings of Carlin. If you haven't read or heard any of his material, I highly recommend it. It's a surefire cure for those days when you're down in the dumps.
