Rating: Summary: So funny! Review: This book made me laugh and laugh. It's funnier than his first book! My favorite parts are "Dog Moments," "A Day in the Life of Henry VIII," and all of the hilarious short takes! (By the way, the short takes in this book are spread thoughout, instead of divided into 2 enormous sections like in Brain Droppings. It works much better this way.)
Rating: Summary: If you own his albums, save your money! Review: George is great! I love him. That's why I bought this book. Big mistake. If you own "Toledo Window Box," "A Place For My Stuff," and "You Are All Diseased," you have already heard 4/5 of the material in the book. Don't get me wrong, the two stars are for some highly original new material... but darn little of it. George, I love you... but Jesus, what a let-down.
Rating: Summary: I think I laughed up my spleen. Call a medic! Review: Ohmigod! This book is a hilarious blend of new material and classic riffs from George's inimitable stand-up routine. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Rehashed stuff. :( Review: I've been a fan of Carlin since the mid 70's. While this is your average GC stuff (i.e. excellent), at least 1/3 or more of this book is simply a transcription of his earlier live work. I think I even saw something in here that also appeared in Braindroppings. This is a must have for any GC fan, but be prepared to skip pages that seem awfully familiar. (Oh look, he did substitute "Geraldo" with "Survivor" though...nice touch). Excellent but I give it three stars for the redundancy.
Rating: Summary: 50% new material Review: When I heard a few months ago that he had a new book coming out I was ecstatic. I had to buy it the first day. The first few pages started me off laughing loudly. I was anticipating a great anthology of laughs. Now after reading it I have to say that I am a little disappointed. Although it has his usual outrageous observations, quips, notions and suggestions, only about half of it is new material. A lot of it is directly taken from old routines, albums and comedy specials. I feel cheated. This book seems to have been written for more of a mainstream audience. Those that are hard-core Carlin fans will be disappointed in the repetition. It is still a funny book and I recommend it to anyone who needs a laugh.
Rating: Summary: I WAS DISAPPOINTED Review: I was enjoying this book in spite of the fact that it's all rehashed material from his routines until I got to the section on rape. There is nothing remotely amusing about that subject and it really spoiled the book for me. Sorry, George, but I think I'll return this and listen to my old tapes instead.
Rating: Summary: Absolutly Hilarious Review: I just picked this book up about 2 hours ago. I have read half of it already, and just had to share my review. This is the funniest book I have read in a long, long time. I highly recommend it to all who are not offended easily! Oh, about 30 minutes ago I read the funniest passages I have read ever. Page 198 or so starts talking about Death. I got many stares in the cafeteria for my loud laughing. Not to mention my cheeseburger landing about 5 feet away after being projected out of my mouth! Anyway, read this book!!!
Rating: Summary: SIMPLY AWESOME! Review: George Carlin is outrageous, loony, cynical, often harsh..... but the man tells the truth, like it or not! I have enjoyed his stuff for many years and I think he is the absolute funniest man alive (J.Seinfeld and D.Carvey are a close second). His comedy translates well to written form but there is always something missing when you can't see his stage presence. I loved "Brain Droppings", and "Napalm and Silly Putty" is equally laugh-out-loud funny. This guy has been doing it for decades and just keeps getting better and better.
Rating: Summary: Good but somewhat unoriginal. Review: This is a good book and really funny.Be warned though that much of the book's content came directly out of routines he [George Carlin]did in his albums and televised stage performances. His previous book, Brain Droppings is almost all previously unreleased material. Napalm & Silly Putty is still a great book with his normal humor and the book still contains much new stuff as well.
Rating: Summary: The smartest comedian on Earth strikes again! Review: George Carlin knows he's smarter than a lot of the people to whom he tells jokes. He can't help it. He's smarter than most people, period. Nobody else can get away with peppering a standup show with references to poor grammer while using more four-letter words than Tony Soprano, and it works. This book, probably directly lifted from his act like Brain Droppings, continues Carlin's reign as the true scion of Lenny Bruce. A few new things in the book, such as the interview with Jesus, actually come out a little better than the standup stuff, although those with easily ruffled feathers should probably stay away. If you read the book, though, you're probably not one of those people. Even those that hate his comedy know who he is, and steer clear accordingly. Personally, I like the lack of sacred cows. Buy it, read it, support one of the greatest voices in American comedy before he gets too old and grumpy to appreciate it.
