Summary: PERFORMING LIVE, OR IN WRITING, CARLIN'S THE BEST!
Review: George Carlin is without a doubt one of the best comedians of all time. If you enjoy hearing his comic mayhem on CDs or seeing him live, you'll fall in love with "Napalm & Silly Putty".

Filled with humor, both new and old, this book has just about everything from airplane announcements to expressions that make no sense; from life to death; from organ doners and random thoughts; and a whole lot more! Also, this book contains short takes just like from "Brain Droppings". This book will have you laughing out loud and begging for more.

This book will offend people who dispise others for thinking on their own and voicing their openions, hypochondriacs, and people with no sense of humor. As for the rest of you, buy this book!! It's a must have for any Carlin fan.

Summary: Wasted F**king Talent
Review: George Carlin is one of the most loved and talented comedians in the last century. His Seven Forbidden Words routine is still one of the funniest comedy routines around. Mr. Carlin always loved to test boundaries and push the envelope with his live comedy routines. Remember the "Hippy Dippy Weatherman?" That is a classic. His material was satirical, shocking and insightful. Mr. Carlin had a talent for finding the outlandish in everyday life and explaining it so that it sounded even more outlandish. That was then. This book is now.

Napalm and Silly Putty presents some new material mixed in with rehashed stage show gags and material pulled from his last book, Brain Droppings. Like Brain Droppings, Napalm and Silly Putty is liberally sprinkled with four letter words. The author's favorite word is f**k. He uses it a lot. However, George Carlin fans expect that. (Many of the jokes and comments presented in this book would be just as funny and/or insightful without the vulgarity.) What Mr. Carlin's fans might not expect is the hate that comes through loud and clear in this volume. George hates everything from God to the Pope, to public schools, to humanity in general. Oh, he also hates airlines, big business, radicals of any kind, the automobile industry, yuppies, the entertainment business, and people. As a matter of fact, the only thing that Mr. Carlin seems to like is drugs. He mentions that often.

While no one held a gun to my head and made me buy this book, and no one held me hostage in a dank basement until I read it, I still feel cheated. George Carlin is capable of better things than this book shows. Mr. Carlin can't seem to get past his desire to shock his audiance with his acerbic wit. But, what's really shocking is that he most likely will make a f**king s**tpot full of f**king money from this piece of stale s**t. Sorry George, I can't f**king lie for you.

Summary: The ultimate non-PC contrarian continues to rock!
Review: This one is one of the best George Carlin books in my judgement, alongside his "Braindroppings."

Carlin, a favorite of the college lecture circuit, is one of my favorite comedians for his calculated non-PC attack on all our sacred cows and taboos.

We need sharp-tongued devil's advocates like Carlin to periodically shake us off of our complacency and slumber.

Don't read this book if you are offended by the F-word, because he is famous for using it liberally.

But the pay-off for enduring his profanity is considerable. For me, he is just another Richard Pryor.

There are no half-way measures with Carlin. You either like him or hate him. I happen to be one of those who like his mega-watt jolts and sharp takes on social reality, such as:

>> "Golf courses for the homeless..."
>> "Your children are overrated..."
>> "Sports should be fixed..."
>> "Interview with Jesus..."

Carlin takes no prisoners.

I highly recommend these 260 pages of fierce, bleeding-edge social satire and humor. Proof positive that there is true freedom of expression (thank God!) in this country. In any other country they probably would have locked him up a long time ago!

Summary: If you know what you're getting, you'll love it
Review: Those people who are offended by the humor in this book: do you even know who the hell George Carlin is? Why on earth would you buy his book, and then complain about angry, profanity-laced, pro-drug, anti-religion humor? It's like buying a gallon of milk when you know you're lactose intolerant. That's who George Carlin is! Why are you surprised?

For those sane people who expect George Carlin humor when buying a George Carlin book, you will find an awful lot to laugh about in Napalm & Silly Putty. Sure, he's got a few old routines in here (not nearly as many as others have suggested), but if, like me, you haven't heard them in 20 years, you'll find them funny all over again. The sections on sports and death are particularly hilarious, and the Short Takes have many gems ("The reason I talk to myself is that I'm the only one whose answers I accept;" "When Ronald Reagan got Alzheimer's Disease, how could they tell?").

It may not be as good as Brain Droppings, but this is still a very funny book by one of the most creative comic minds of the past century. Read it and laugh.

Summary: George Carlin - Napalm and Silly Putty - 3 / 5
Review: George Carlin is one of the best known comics in the world, and parts of this book are very funny. However, there are two things that may deter you from buying this. First of all, for those not familiar with Carlin, he is extremely vulgar. I'm one who does not mind, and feels that it can and does often add to the humour. However, I also feel Carlin takes it a little too far. Sometimes he seems to swear just because he can, and it adds nothing to what he's trying to say.
Second, if you are a long time fan of Carlin, you'll be familiar with many of these rants, as many are taken from his stand up shows. Thus, a good portion of the book may seem old, and not worth it.
Don't get me wrong, there are some very funny parts, but there are also some parts that makes you wish it would just stop. Borrow this book from a friend, but spare yourself 10 bucks and don't bother buying it.

Summary: Side Spliiting Laughs
Review: It has been a really long time since I have laughed so hard. George Carlin has to be one of the funniest comics ever. The book doesn't deal with any one subject in particular. He covers everything from, airport security, dogs & cats, germs, driving and so much more. There's nothing fancy in this book, it's just superb adult humor. He tells it like it is. I don't think anyone or anything is safe from the mockings of Carlin. If you haven't read or heard any of his material, I highly recommend it. It's a surefire cure for those days when you're down in the dumps.

Summary: No-Holds-Barred Humor From A Comic Master
Review: First of all, I want to say that when I first came across this book, I had very little idea of who George Carlin was. My brother bought it, and I happened to pick it up one day and read "A Day In The Life Of Henry VIII," and was absolutely floored. After finishing the book, I was floored again. Here is a pithy, cynical man who has no regard to political correctness, one who constantly questions everything in today's society. I love it!!! Although the book does bounce haphazardly from topic to topic, most of Carlin's observations are dead on. Like Airline Announcements, Sanctity Of Life, The Royal Family, and Don't Blame The Leaders. Pure genious. Now I can understand why old Carlin fans would be disappointed, but as a newbie the material was completely fresh to me. But this book isn't for everybody, as the reviews indicate. Don't buy this book if you are into political correctness, take life too seriously, or are detached from reality. Problem is, when reading this book people tend to forget that it is intended as humor. Well if you don't think its funny because the topic is "how America is one big bullsh*t story", you either need to move on with your life or get an enema. Because if George tells us that the founding fathers were full of sh*t because they said "All men are created equal" (except Indians, Blacks, and Women), it's not being said because it's shocking. Or for humor's sake. It's being said because it's true. Like it or not, people, it's just a book. Don't take it so seriously.

Recommended rants: all on Sports, Children, Seven Death Wishes, Euphemisms, Capital Punishment

Summary: Awesome !!!
Review: Brain Droppings was and is George Carlin's best book. Napalm & Silly Putty is right up there with it but isn't quite as good as the first book. But then again, what sequel is as good as the ones that came before it ? Still, you should get this. It had me laughing for hours. So much of what Mr. Carlin says makes a whole lot of sense.

Summary: The ranting of a foul-mouthed prophet
Review: "Napalm & Silly Putty" is a collection of rants and quips by comic George Carlin. Nothing is sacred when Carlin gets going. He mines humor from such topics as religion, ethnic pride, AIDS, the Columbine shootings, Jeffrey Dahmer, plane crashes, cancer, capital punishment, and much more.

The book contains "Short Takes" (pieces not more than a few sentences long) and longer routines. Among the pieces are a merciless denunciation of golf and Tiger Woods, a program for an avant-garde play, "The 20th Century World Hostility Scoreboard," and a look at "The Humorous Side of Rape." Particularly scathing is his critique of the first Persian Gulf war.

Carlin reads like an angry, foul-mouthed prophet who is intent on mercilessly exposing the stupidity and hypocrisy of American society. He is often at his best when deconstructing the Orwellian language we use to enslave our own minds. He really lives up to his creed: "I believe you can joke about anything." So brace yourself and dive into this politically incorrect (in so many ways!) tirade.
