Rating: Summary: Borrow from the Library... Review: This one just didn't appeal to me. It and its predecessor were ok reads, but they didn't grab me the way the earlier Amanda Quick novels did. This and its predecessor have already departed my library. I recommend you check it out of the public library, unless this particular style appeals to you.
Rating: Summary: Don't bother to look at all. Review: This sequel to "Slightly Shady" is just as boring, if not worse, than the earlier title. The characters are cardboard cut-outs and the plot is laughable. After reading everything that AQ (aka JAK, etc) has written, I can safely say that if the next one is like this I, for one, am not going to bother again. I think this author needs to forget the contract pot-boilers and get back to basics.
Rating: Summary: Going Strong Review: This sequel to Slightly Shady is better yet. Amanda Quick is back on track and I found it thoroughly enjoyable. A "can't put down" until the end.
Rating: Summary: I Miss the Old Amanda Quick Review: This was a delightful book and I enjoyed reading it however I miss the passion and sizzle of her earlier books. The characters are like old friends if you read the first book. Lavinia and Tobias are like a cat and a dog trapped in a bag when they are tying to solve this case but when the passion ignites between them you find yourself looking for a bed for them. The plot is very interesting and the villian believable. This book was enjoyable but I borrowed it from the library instead of purchasing it. I would purchase this book as a papperback but not hard back.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: When you start pondering that secondary characters would make better leads, you know that the story is in trouble. Lavinia Lake and Tobias March spend too much time arguing with each other and the mystery is rather weak. The two detectives team together to find an ancient Roman-British artifact that might have supernatural powers. Between arguments the two main characters attempt to find the artifact and solve a murder. As huge fan of Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick, I was very disappointed in this novel, to the point that I could put it down and not really want to get back to it.
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed this book even more than the first in the series ! Review: While I always enjoy historical fiction in a series, the second installment rarely 'grabs' my attention as much as the the first one did. This book, however, is an exception. I was captivated right from the start, and enjoyed every moment of reading "Don't Look Back". I am thrilled to discover there is a 3rd book, and can't wait to begin that one. That said, I am still confused as to what exactly "mesmerism" is. Because it is discussed so much in both novels, I had expected there to be a more thorough explanation, especially since the idea is so central to the story. Since it's not a commonly used term, and since there isn't much information on the topic, I believe that Ms. Quick should have included more than just passing references to this archaic science. I believe I would have enjoyed the novel even more if this point had been clearer. Regardless, this is a delightful book, but I'd certainly recommend reading "Slightly Shady" before beginning this one.
