Summary: A change of pace.
Review: I really took the lead characters in this book. The book was a fun read and a bit different than the usual Quick books.

Summary: lavinia & tobias spark & sizzle!
Review: i think it is so interesting how varied opinions can be about books. i've read many of the reviews for the lake & march series & it appears that many are disappointed by this series. i, however, was absolutely delighted & enthralled reading about lake & march. i adore each of their characters & how they are adjusting to each other, becoming more aware of the deeper & deeper affect they are having on each other & realizing how truly singular & important their relationship is. and i love all the supporting characters, emeline & anthony are totally sweet & ms. dove is perfect & the introduction of mr. vale is riveting. and the mystery is well developed. there are many plot lines & additional characters that add to the pace & the puzzle, & muddles up a reader's usual ability to see the culprit from the beginning in the normally not well-thought out romance novel mystery. i completely enjoyed reading this tale of murder, theivery & mystery, love awakening between two older, mature individuals who think a passionate & enduring love is not possible for them, and deserved mutual respect between individuals of varied classes. if you like mysteries with a little romance to spice & liven up the story, you will totally enjoy "don't look back". i am wishing & hoping that amanda quick will deliver another lake/march mystery for us soon. i hope i hope i hope!

Summary: "a could not put down book"
Review: I was so excited to get the second book, I read this one in two days. i hope there is a 3rd soon. The relationship of Lavinia and Tobias is exciting and funny. Their adventures are thrilling, they keep you reading. the fact that Qucik keeps the story funny, thrilling and mystery in it, keeps it "a could not put down book." I love it. And I do like reading about Anthony and Emeline.

Summary: not her usual development
Review: I've enjoyed many (if not all) of Amanda Quick's books - her female characters are always educated, intelligent and very capable for the time period her stories follow. Her male characters, who seem to admire women with these unusual feminine qualities - are themselves strong and supportive. This usually makes for a novel with not only romance, but intrigue, suspense and passion (excellent beach reading). The characters are too priggish and polite to eachother - even upon familiarity. Lavinia's character seems flat and peevish - her "heat" is not believable and for an intelligent woman - as written - seems stupidly unaware of the obvious - I'm not referring to her purposeful naivete. Tobias' character is more believable - he seems human, although he could use more depth. Hopefully the next one will be up to her usual par....

Summary: Don't look back indeed!
Review: I've never read her other novels except for "Slightly Shady" so I don't have any comparisons nor I can say that she's not capable of putting something that will spice up her novels. So anyway, the only thing that made me read this book is because I read "slightly shady" and when I start a story( a series for that matter) I intend to finish them.
But let me tell u, the ONLY JOY I got from reading this novel is when I got on the last page, not because it has a good ending(it was adequate) but because it's the last page and I'm FINALLY over it. I didn't really enjoy it, a lot of times I wanna put it down. It was so frustrating. I got the feeling of total detachment. Though I'll say, she is getting better on manuevering Tobias and Lavinia to invoke more humor into them. One more improvement is her attack on the mystery part. It's not hooking or anything, but still, it isn't easy to figure out...but it's not that hard either. If it's a good mystery ur looking for, I think u'll do better if u pick a Hardy Boys novel...

Summary: New Characters Are Always a Good Thing
Review: In the sequel to SLIGHTLY SHADY, Quick doesn't introduce new characters, which I think contributed to my rating of the book. There is less of that "falling in love" feeling present than characters who have just met.

There is more mystery in this book than any of her other books, and not enough romance was written into it. Although I am fond of mysteries, the romance seems to an afterthought that was not insinuated well enough into the plot.

Despite all of this, I read through the entire book, and I will still continue to sit on the edge of my seat to wait for the next one, as I do love Amanda Quick.

Summary: Please, more romance and less mystery
Review: In this sequel to Slightly Shady, Tobias and Lavinia are hired by an old friend of Lavinia's to find out who murdered his wife. While Tobias suspects Lavinia's friend murdered his wife, Lavinia thinks otherwise. And then there is an secret from Lavinia's past that pops up occasionally throughout the story, but isn't developed so it seems like it was added in later to make the story more interesting-- which it doesn't. In addition, mesmerism is added to the story-- to add some mystique?-- and agian, isn't fully developed. Overall, too much was added and not enough was developed to make this an interesting story.

With Slightly Shady and Don't Look Back, I have to wonder if Quick is trying to start a Regency period mystery series. If so, she's lost my interest already. The characters were okay in Slightly Shady, but lack staying power for more than one book. I've always liked books by Amanda Quick because it was a romance with a little mystrery thrown in; trying to do a mystery with a little romance thrown in just hasn't worked with either of these books.
