Summary: Just the right mix of maturity, mystery and romance
Review: I have always been of the opinion that Amanda Quick's novels could stand on their own without the heavy emphasis on the sexual activities of the characters and I would usually skip those steamy descriptions in pursuit of the mystery. This novel has been something of an answer to my wish for more mystery, more romance, and just a light dose of the sexual interludes. The book was comfortable reading, as many of the characters were from a previous book - "Slightly Shady" - thus I enjoyed the blooming romances between several other couples as well as catching up on the ongoing relationship between the main characters-Lavinia and Tobias. The mystery itself was a very good one and though I kept my eye on the "red herrings", the revelation of the real villain was still a surprise- just what I like in a mystery. The story flowed smoothly, the characters were fully developed, there were some humorous antics, some chills, and the mystery was solved and it made sense. I really enjoyed this novel and would like to see this duo again in another one of Quick's followup novels. Aside from the basic things that I like about Quick's novels... the historical settings, the characters, the ensuing romances and the mysteries that put them together, the thing that made this book a hit with me was the concentration on the mystery and the romance and less sex.

Summary: Say it isn't so!
Review: I have loved all of this author's book's, but I can't believe this was even written by her. The story is so flat, and her use of the couple from the last book was a mistake. I never could care about either in Slightly Shady and was disapointed to see them return when I opened the first page of this book.
I hope she kicks her writting up a notch. I know she has better
stories!!

Summary: Quick to Avoid
Review: I have to start out by saying this was not my favorite of Amanda Quick's books. In this one it didn't seem to grab me and make me want to stop everything I was doing to be able to finish listening to it. I had figured out by the introduction of the character "who did it" that it was him and that it would take a long time to get to this in the story.

In this story you learn of a widow who is also a mesmerist (hypnotist) who is not branching out into the line of "private inquiries" for those of the ton. I do admit that if the history or mesmerism dealing with the "nerves" was correctly portrayed in the story than it was rather interesting.

But, if you have not listened to any of her other books it is a good introduction.

Summary: Not her best
Review: I like Amanda Quick, in fact I like her a lot, but I found this book disappointing. I think the problem for me was that it didn't introduce a new heroine and hero. Instead, it continued the story of Lavinia and Tobias from Slightly Shady. I like romances with a lot of plot, and this certainly has that, but I found it too easy to guess the villain. In a book where the hero and heroine are new to each other, I don't mind this too much - it's a romance, not a whodunnit, after all - but the combination of easy to guess villain and old lovers didn't work for me.

Summary: Good
Review: I like the fact that AQ wrote two books with Lavinia and Tobias.
The fact that they aren't sugary sweet is a big plus to me. I really enjoyed the mystery surrounding the Blue Medusa and it complications. I hope AQ writes another Lake/March mystery. They are enjoyable to read.

Summary: Great dialogue and fast pace action
Review: I love JAK in all her presentations, precisely because she does not do a lot of interior soul searching and psycho babble. Her dialogue carries the story (as it should do in any good writing) and if she has a slightly campy feel to it so much the better. I have just started to reread some of the Quick books and find that they have held up well since I first started reading them some 6 years ago. Scandal was a hoot, ditto Deception and Mystique, I am currently on Seduction, the first one she did in this genre. My faves had been Dangerous and Ravished but I will see what time does to these rankings. Quick also writing as JA Krentz, does the same plot every time but it taps into what I want and enjoy and makes me laugh and know the ending will be satisfying and complete. This book is a departure from her norm in that it carries over the same hero and heroine from a prior book (she did do this though in Dreams 1 & 2, Gifts of Fire and Gold and one other very early set and the famous Gwen Jones quartet (please reissue JAK whereever you are, oh Seattle of course)). Best.

Summary: I appear to be in the minority.
Review: I really liked this book. I liked the way in which AQ handled two strong personalities. I enjoyed the interaction of the characters and the bantering dialogue. I hope to see another book about Lavinia and Tobias and Emeline and Anthony. Joan and Lord Vale could provide an interesting story line also. Try it, you'll like it.

Summary: A change of pace.
Review: I really took the lead characters in this book. The book was a fun read and a bit different than the usual Quick books.
