Rating: Summary: The clues Review: A Review by Lisa A young girl named Sammy Keyes lives with her grandmother in her retirement home. Sammy is not allowed to live there because of the law. She has a friend named Marisa who lives in Lakewood Springs. Sammy's mother, Lana is trying to become a movie star in Hollywood. But Sammy does not like her mother so she calls her Lady Lana instead of mom.I liked the characters in this story. The characters that I liked most are: Sammy, Mr. Hudson, Marisa's little brother and the girl with the red hair. The reason why I liked these characters was because of how they play their roles in the story. These characters are believable. Sammy is believable because she is a curious girl who gets into trouble. Like when she is at her grandmother's apartment for a while she takes the binoculars and looks at other people and watching what they were doing. Mr. Hudson is believable and he is funny. Like if Sammy went over to his house for a question Mr. Hudson would be talking to his stuffed dog like it was alive. Then when Sammy would be talking to him he would face a pole or a coat rack and be searching for her hand. Then he would scratch his head and ask what happened to his hand. Marisa's brother is believable because he is like a normal annoying little brother. Like when he left his sister's sight and bought $10 worth of candy bars to eat while he watched the fish in the pet store. The girl with the red hair is believable because she is your average selfish brat. For example when she asked for money from Marisa but didn't get it, she stuck a pin in Sammy's butt. The subject of the book appealed to me. The type of the subject in this book is something that I have been interested in. The book is funny. For example like when a girl gets stuck in the butt with a pin and when Mr. Hudson kept talking to a coat rack instead of a girl. Or when there was a mean old lady always sitting outside of her apartment so she could find a peep of evidence to get someone in trouble. I recommended this book to other readers. The reason why I recommend this book to other readers is because it is a funny book that would mostly interest people. The kind of reader that would like this book is a person who likes mystery and a person who likes funny books.
Rating: Summary: The Mystery Review: Danielle Vrshek 12-1-03 Sammy Keyes and The hotel thief By:Wendelin Van Draanen "Sammy is daring, brash, and cool headed as they come." She is a very mysterious and nosy person, but when it comes to solving mysteries she can tell you when it happened, why it happened, and who was involved. Sammy Keyes is living with her grandma while her parents are away on business. Well she gets bored and starts checking out the neighboors from in her apartment building with her binoculars. Well it just so happens that she sees a man that she recognizes stealing money from a ladies purse, in a hotel. It was during the day and who would rob someone in the middle of broad daylight. It just so happens that Sammy starts finding clues from this robbery. The police are now involved and its a lot of caous. This book is realistic fiction because it could happen, but it wasn't a true story when the author was telling it. This book kept me hooked and it WAS a page turner. This mystery makes you wonder about things and so you want to keep reading to find out. I would recommend this book to the 6th-8th grade level just because it is easy reading, but its a good mystery and it makes you think about the book and get more into it; instead of just reading on and on. I recommend this book to almost anyone because I (personally) never liked mysteries, but I kept hearing a lot of good things about this series and I knew I had to read it. Well sure enough my non-liking mystery self is definetly now a Sammy Keyes book worm. I enjoyed this style of writing because it seems like your actually the one in the situations that Sammy is in. To me that is a good book! I connected with the character in a way because of her sense of noticing things. I usually am very observant to what is around me.
Rating: Summary: Watch out Nancy Drew----there's a new sleuth in town! Review: Four years ago I got hooked to the Sammy Keyes books when they were reccomended by a friend of mine. And I speak for all the Sammy Keyes books when I say, WOW ITS GOOD TO HAVE SOMETHING NEW ON THE SHELF! The way Van Draanen writes is like the real world - and I love it this way. I actually know this author personally and know that she's continuing the series right now with a book with the word "cat" or something in the title. Anyway, these books have a great and funny way of putting things and I am sure that I will continue to love and appriciate them forever and always. 5 STARS
Rating: Summary: Advance praise for this new mystery series: Review: from SUE GRAFTON: "If Kinsey Millhone ever hires a junior partner, Sammy Keyes will be the first candidate on the list. She's feisty, fearless, and funny. A top-notch investigator!" from JOAN LOWERY NIXON: "A great story with plenty of shivers and suspense. Make friends with Samantha Keyes." from MARGARET MARON: "In Samantha Keyes, Wendelin Van Draanen has created an urban child of these times: fatherless, semi-motherless, living illegally with a loving grandmother, she stays a precarious two steps ahead of the public officials who would put her in a foster home if they knew her circumstances. Sammy's brave, resourceful, observant and a loyal friend, but this girl sleuth is now well-mannered Nancy Drew. She's endearingly hot-tempered, nosy, and not always obedient-in short, she's someone I want to read about again. A winning debut!"
Rating: Summary: **Sammy Keyes and the Hotel Thief** read by: Mia Thermopolus Review: I absolutly loved this book. I reccomend it to anyone who loves a good mystery book. The end was unpredictable and I thought that is was put together well. I really liked how the author discribed everything in such detail. It is a REALLY GOOD book.
Rating: Summary: A Review on All of the Sammy Keyes series Review: I have read all of the Sammy Keyes books, and I enjoyed them all! The stories present you with the headstrong character of Sammy and her friends. Sammy is smart, interesting, friendly, and admirable. The character is a great ROLE MODEL for girls, with the books swending messages of self- confidence and the ability to not be discouraged by others. The books have great, believeable plots, interesting themes, and smart writing and funny jokes. I really enjoyed these books and I am anticipating the release of more. I encourage girls or boys to read these books. I hope my review is helpful, and although it isn't on a specific book, you can trust me on the fact that these books are all GREAT and interesting. Try one of books, and you will want to read the whole series! Bye! :)
Rating: Summary: Great Style and Wonderful plot/story Review: I have read every book in the series (except the newest one..I need to get it!) and they are all equally good. I absolutely love Wendelin Van Draanen's unique style...it is up-beat and funny--perfect for Sammy Keyes. The basic plot is about a girl named Sammy Keyes (obviously) and she runs into these crazy mysteries without trying to. There is a police officer named Officer Borsch and he really doesn't like Sammy, but Sammy always ends up begging for him to LISTEN to her! Sammy lives with her grams because her mom ("Lady Lana") ran off to Holleywood to try and be an actress. I recommend you read this book if you like mystery, suspense...funny things...even if you don't!
Rating: Summary: A Fresh New Series Review: I have read the first four novels in the SAMMY KEYES series and I plan to read the fifth, sixth, seventh, and future novels. Sammy is a character every child can relate to. The author is very talented in presenting her stories through the eyes of a seventh grader. These books are filled with laughs and suspence; friendship and revenge. The author puts together clever clues and resolves the mysteries well. These books range in 160-270 pages in length but will keep the attention of your child nevertheless. I recommend these novels to anyone. Even though they were written for children, the SAMMY KEYES books will keep the attention of all you adults out there as well.
Rating: Summary: I like it. It is the bomb. Review: I like the adventure she had pland for us. She is such a supiser because the ending was such a suprise for us to read. I will recomend this to who ever likes adventures.
