Rating: Summary: Great Story! Review: I really enjoyed the book. Surprise ending makes the story even better.
Rating: Summary: IS THIS HOT OR WHAT Review: NEED A BOOK TO READ OVER THE SUMMER? WELL, HERE IT IS! IF YOU WERE EVER IN A BIRACIAL RELATIONSHIP THIS WILL BOOST YOUR CONFIDENCE ABOUT YOUR PARTNER. YOU'RE ABLE TO RELATE TO SOME CHARACTERS AND CRY AT THE END BECAUSE THE BOOK IS FINISH. IT'S ABOUT A TIME PERIOD WHERE MIX COUPLES WEREN'T SO HOT BUT THESE TWO CHARACTERS PERSEVERE THROUGH ALL THE OBSTACLES TO BE TOGETHER. YOU'LL LOVE THE CHARACTERS BOLDNESS AND FLAVA AND IN THE END YOU'LL WONDER IF YOU SHOULD HAVE SOME MILK IN YOUR COFFEE. P.S.- THAT COMMENT IS JUSTING SAYING IT MIGHT BE FUN TO GO WITH A MALE OR IN SOME CASES FEMALE FROM A DIFFERENT RACE.
Rating: Summary: Coffee in his milk Review: I would not call Mr. Dickey exactly brave for witing a book about interracial dating, but it was a risk--and he met the challenge well. Just by looking at the reviews, I become aware of the discourse (a necessary one) that the work has inspired. (...), I was not offended by his portrayal of African American women and I fall short of calling his a stereotyped view of sistahs. I think that some (...)might have mistaken his humor for venom, mistaken his appreciation for condemnation. Note that much of what Jordan finds appealing about Kimberly is "typically" (and in this he does stereotype) African American. Come to think of it, Jordan does not really find milk in his coffee; Jordan discovers coffee in what he thought was milk.
Rating: Summary: Get A Grip Review: I am a real fan of EJD and have read all of his books to date. Browsing through some of the comments on MIMC I cant help but feel some reviewers have taken the book way too personal. I and many of my friends that read MIMC thought it to have real and complex issues with definte plot twists and an ending that unless you read the back of the book first would never have been expected. Jordan Greene and Kimberly Chavers each had emotional scars that were open when they came together in a chance meeting on a cold New York afternoon. Regardless of the "rights and wrongs" that are too often dictated by society's sorted standards, Jordan and Kimberly pursued their relationship and the opportunity to share a life and love that could transcend the barrier of "color" offering them both peace and healing.
Rating: Summary: three and a half stars maybe.......................... Review: This book started off very slow, it took a few chapters to warm up. I think there were a few chapters that we could have done without. It wasn't very boring, however it also wasn't one of those I can't put this book down novels either. A good book to read, if your going to be sitting under the hair dryer or something..... It was ah-ight overall.
Rating: Summary: Not worth reading Review: I didn't even finish this book... after reading the first 50 pages I put it down and vowed NEVER to finish it. I would waste my time or money.
Rating: Summary: Enlightens and Entertains Review: Very good book! My first by this author. The main character Jordan has a very real quality...like you were inside his mind. You don't find that happening very often with male characters and especially not with an African American Male character. I felt like I was learning more about how some men think and feel. The different views on race and interacial dating and skin color as percieved by different types of people was very interesting. I liked reading all angles of the topic; the many different outlooks people can have about skin color. I enjoyed reading about a Southern man/person who goes back home to where he grew up. It was very real and very much like what I have experienced in the south when visiting my family. The book was funny too! The initmate moments were not gross which they usually are in books but were still discriptive and often sensual in a very realistic way. I will definitely buy and read all of this author's other books!
Rating: Summary: mixed feelings Review: ** I had to really concentrate while reading this book. At first I felt sorry for Jordan, living in New York. And the way Kimberly talked and acted I figured from the beginning that she either was black or half black. I just knew she had some soul in her. I don't know when I read a book I get so involved in it. They weren't sterotyped charecters, but it was the way they conversed.
Rating: Summary: INSULTING Review: Milk in my Coffee was a book club book so I had to read it or pay a fine. Otherwise I wouldn't have finished it. I've read all of Mr. Dickey novels but this one was insulting to me being a black woman and a supporter of black writers. Personally I'm not for interracial relationships but why was all the black women so ghetto. The characters were not real. I did not like this book.
Rating: Summary: TOO HOT TO HANDLE TOO COLD TO HOLD Review: For those of you who like to read fiction/suspense this happened to be a really great book. Eric Dickey has a way of holding the readers attention at all times. I now have a better out look on interracial relationships, whether they fail or succeed. At first I wasn't going to buy the book because I read the story outline and it turned me off. Keep in mind, we should judge not.
