Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Review: 3 1/2 stars for this one...I love EJD and I've read all but two of his books (they're next on my list!). This was a solid story that kept my attention, however I normally read EJD's books in two or three days, but this one took me nearly a week (it wasn't as much of a page-turner as the others). The story was fine, I was bored when Jordan went back to Tennessee to meet back with his brothers, but I think EJD just wanted to represent his hometown and alma matter, so I see why he did it. That section of the book (which was at least 20% of the book) was somewhat out of place, though. He should have kept the story strictly about Jordan and Kimberly. A lot of drama in the last 75 pages. It was like he got all of his ideas at the end and threw them in to get the reader all excited. That was okay, but it took away from the relationship that was central to the story. Overall, a good book. I recommended it to a white female friend who is in a relationship with a black man.
Rating: Summary: Recognition of Mutual Values Overrides Ethnicity Review: I was introduced to this book in [local store], by a man who saw me browsing novels by African-American authors. I had just read 2 of Bebe Moore Campbell's books. Which left me ready for more novels that explore diversity on many levels. The stranger in the store described EJD as "a man who writes good women's novels." Momentarily, I silently said, "Yeah. Right. How could that be possible." Yet, something in me was calling me to read more novels that explore diversity, ones that have humor, surprizes, enlightenment, excellent characterizations, and dialogues that "wow" me. Read this book with an open mind, knowing that by reading it you have a chance to explore something about yourself, about society and perhaps something about becoming more open to focusing, rather than what black man is sleeping with a white woman.
Rating: Summary: Make You Wanna Reach Out And Slap Your Momma Good Review: This book was just too good. Mr. Dickey put his foot in this.
Rating: Summary: GREATTTTT! Review: GREAT BOOK. YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW THAT THE GIRL WAS WHITE. SHE WAS TOO BLACK AND KEPT IT REAL. GREAT READ NEED TO GET.
Rating: Summary: Is is OK to pass? Review: I read this book and some of the online reviews. Am startled that no one seems to address the fact that the Kimberly character is "passing" for white because it's easier for her. There's something fundamentally wrong with pretending to be something you're not. According to the book Kimberly's father is half black, even if her mother is white that makes Kimberly at least 1/4 black. You're still considered black until there's only 1/16th black blood in you so, she's a "black woman passing as a white one" I was disgusted.
Rating: Summary: One of His Best Review: I love EDJ and this book is one of his best. The twist and turns, lies and betrayal had me up all night. This book made me smile. Kimberly and Jordan were very likeable characters. Their "love story" is classic.
Rating: Summary: Love the book.......could have been better! Review: Four star book, it would have been a five star but I thought the conclusion could have been better. Overall it was a fantastic book I recommend it too anyone who likes drama. I believe that this book is inspirational because Jordan didn't runaway from the conflict that goes with a inter-racial relationship. He pick the girl he truly loved, he picked his SMOOVE. My favorite part was when J'nette made the big announcement, that she was raped by Solomon and he was the father of her child. Even though it terminated his friendship with Solomon, their were no strings attached between him and J'nette. Now Jordan could go back to lovin Kimberly. I wasn't really into the chapters where he went to Memphis to find his older brother. That part was kind of boring! The book should have just focused on Jordan and Kimberly as a couple. Also, I loved how they were both the narrator. It let me see their personality and feeling towards each other and the situation. In conclusion, the books conclusion left me baffled because their was more to tell. Their was a sense of a sequel in the making. I would have like to have read about them at the wedding or Jordan and Kimberly announcing that they were soon to be married.
Rating: Summary: Raw Review: This is the best book I ever read. I loved it.
Rating: Summary: Go, Go, Go, Go, Go Eric it's your b-day Review: I can not believe that anyone had something negative to say about this book! Anyhow, Eric that just goes to show you that people will chew you out no matter what you do; if you took your arm off and diped your heart and soul into Milk In My Coffee, folk still got somthing to say, so puh-leeasse keep smiling and puh-lleeease keep writing. I was floored at my own inability to realize that PETER was a white male, whoa! Oh my goodness Eric you hit me with the one-two-punch. I could not put the book down; I read the entire book in three days. The book, i mean everything was so vivid I could of swarn I saw Kimberly the other day in the neighborhood. Eric had the ability to mAkE me fall in love with characters, the same heartbreak they endured so did I. He creates the characters, gives them life plus purpose and makes them dance in your head. That man, wHEw, he got some talent no doubt about it. Eric keep doing what you do, cause one thing for show I love it.
Rating: Summary: awful Review: I couldn't even get into the book. I stopped reading it because it wasn't grasping my attention and becoming a real bore. Everytime I picked it up I went to sleep like 5minutes after.
