Rating: Summary: Well written deceit Review: One would think that the extreme right wingers would eventually start boring themselves with this trite nonsense. But the flood continues, although I found this book better than some. For one thing, the writing does not even try to conceal the authors desire to silence those who differ with him. That is refreshing honesty, for usually this type of book claims compassion in Christianity, while this book takes no prisoners. If you do not march the tune, you are not allowed to sing. Fortunately, this is America, and we shall sing all we like, and express our opinions freely....
Rating: Summary: MEIN KEMPF REVISITED Review: This is the sequel to Mein Kempf, ironically written by a Jewish Rabbi. It espouses the elimination of personal freedoms and total disregard of the US Constitution. I wept when I read this garbage, then I threw the book in the trash. Adolph Hitler had similar views to Lapin, and hopefully this book will go no further than Hitler's book did.
Rating: Summary: Apparently not quite right enough Review: I find it interesting that several Christian Identity (the ultra right-wing groups) use this book as evidence that Jews really are out to rule the world al la the Protocols of Zion. For all those who dislike "jackbooted liberall" who are apparently opposed to God's word, then keep in mind that apparently Rabbi Lapin isn't far right enough...
Rating: Summary: Politics + US Jews....Great Questions pondered throughout!!! Review: I enjoyed this candid and controversial argument by Rabbi Lapin. Why is being a "Conservative" and a Jew, impossible? I'm a Jew and it bothers me that I could be an atheist and find more love from fellow Jews than embracing "Conservative/Republican" idealogies/politics. This book really makes you think about the American Jewish population and how the Liberal Left has said that the vast number of Jews equates that this is what Judaism really is, excepting of others. Practicing a religion is not about being the same, it is about being disciplined. IT'S NOT EASY BEING TRADITIONAL/RELIGIOUS!
Rating: Summary: Religion in Government Review: Rabbi Lapin is an excellent writer and speaker, however he appears to be ignorant of the dreadful consequences of religion in politics that have been detrimental to Israel as well as to many other countries. He is wrong in writing that the United States was built on a foundation of Christianity. It was definitely constructed with the wise separation of church and state.
Rating: Summary: A Unique Perspective on the Culture War Review: I had mediocre expectations when I started this book, and at first I found numerous little statements in the book which I didn't agree with. My impression was that many of Rabbi Lapin's conclusions were over-stretched, and I was skeptical about how he reached them. However, the more I read, the more I appreciated the value of his views, and by the time I reached the last few chapters, I couldn't put the book down.Rabbi Lapin's insights on American Jewry are fascinating, and I loved the rich symbolism of the examples he used from the Torah and the Hebrew language. The main thrust of his thesis is that the modern liberal movement in America is not just an iconoclastic political movement, but that it is ultimately a nihilistic rejection of America's Judeo-Christian God and the religious culture upon which American society was originally built. This is the common thread which underlies the various groups which are associated with modern liberalism. What do atheism, secular humanism, socialism, feminists, pornographers, the sixties drug culture, the sexual revolution, dogmatic evolution, euthanasia, radical animal rights groups, extreme environmentalists, the coarse decadence of American popular culture, abortionists, gay activists, and other seemingly non-affiliated liberal groups and causes have in common? All of them represent a rejection of, and departure from, the traditional Judeo-Christian culture which underlies America's founding. Earlier I had thought of each of these groups as distinct; now I see the thread that binds them. In addition to his major thesis, Rabbi Lapin's book is full of excellent insights about human nature and American society. Although I didn't agree with some of what he wrote, this book was a worthwhile read. It also helped me appreciate a sentiment expressed by Alan Keyes during the Republican primaries debates: In order to be true to their heritage, Americans must believe in God. Otherwise, American society will become a secular parasite, living off of the moral capital of our Christian foundations until finally that moral capital runs dry and America crumbles completely.
Rating: Summary: I need to learn how to make an argument. . . Review: This books must have been written by one of Rabbi Lapin's beautiful daughters(I know he has them cause he talks about them more than an annoying woman at the coffee maker). This is the only explanation for the lack of any sort of argument in the book. Rabbi Lapin seems to think that if he says something it must be true. Numerous times I found myself laughing out lound and had to explain to those around what I was reading. As an example let me mention one of his most insane ideas. Faith is what drives business, not logic and reason. If business' tried to use logic and reason to make their decision than no one would produce anything. How can anyone be sure that someone will buy their product? Only faith in god can lead to success. One must have faith that someday god will make people buy their product. Does this seem insane to anyone else? All of this would be funny if Rabbi Lapin wasn't such an influential man. He spoke at the last Republican national convention(Thanks to God for not making me a republican). I suggest putting excerpts of this book in the Sunday comics.
Rating: Summary: nice try and great buy ! Review: R.Daniel Lapin takes the time to walk us through an increasingly christian-phobic society. It appears as though 'America's real war' is being played out everyday between politicians, academics and everyday families. The Rabbi clearly states (p.45)that 'We are no longer one nation under God.We are two seperate nations with two distinct and incompatible moral visions.' The author's witty approach and home truths make for a great read. This informative piece looks likely to take pride of place on my bookshelf for quite some time yet.
Rating: Summary: Rabbi Lappin deals with the heart of the matter... Review: Rabbi Lappin, who's writings deal with the relevancy of Christianity in the United States of America, could not be more correct in pointing out the fact that this country was founded on strong principles stemming from a firm belief in a Judeo-Christian God. .......................
Rating: Summary: My very own Rabbi :) Review: The first time I heard Rabbi Daniel Lapin speak, I was intrigued by his charming manner and lovely accent. Later that same week I found an entire article on his life. I didn't miss the next show, or the next....and so on my life went. His voice was so relaxing to listen to and I looked forward to each Sunday when he was on the radio. Over the past few years that I have enjoyed listening to his talk show, I can truly say I have been blessed and educated in so many issues and life lessons. His topics are entertaining and he always teaches a lesson you want to learn to improve your life. I can now say I have my very own Rabbi. There is something extraordinary about this man: his mind, his heart and his soul are all in the right place. I invite you to make Rabbi Lapin your very own Rabbi. His beliefs will benefit you no matter what your own religious beliefs are. He espouses eternal truths we can all relate too. These tapes will show you why America is sinking fast and what we can do to save her.
