Rating: Summary: Makes you feel like you're in the gunsights . . . Review: This book, while not quite the same as Red Storm Rising, was nonetheless a great book! This is the intro for Clancy's main character, CIA analys/historian/Ex-Marine Jack Ryan. It starts out with a nice, calm walk in the park on a UK vacation, until a terrorist attack on England's Royla Family leaves Ryan a hero for thwarting the attack, his shoulder all banged up, and a target for the Ulster Liberation Army, a spinoff of the IRA. Now he finds that his family is endangered, with the terrorist suddenly operating in the IRA neutral country of America. When the terrorists make an attempt on his wife and kid, he resolves to not let them endanger him or his family again. But when a party with the original victims of the Royal Family is crashed by gun-toting Irishmen, Jack must fight to protect his family, his friends, and himself.
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK Review: This is easily Clancy's best book. It has a gripping plot and lots of action. Ryan is a great character and so are the terrorists especially Sean Miller. I couldn't put this book down once I started. This is my favorite book and you should read it.
Rating: Summary: Bloody, jolly good show, old chap! Review: One of Clancy's best Ryan books, however, please don't assume that everyone in Britain uses the words, Bloody or Jolly in every single sentence.
Rating: Summary: Wretched Excess Review: I enjoyed Hunt For Red October and Red Storm Rising for what they were -- pulp fiction with lots of action and enough juicy details about hardware and weaponry to satisfy a modern techno-fetish. Great literature they're not, but they're entertaining. But THIS... Clancy obviously read super-hero comic books when he was a kid. His Jack Ryan is unbelievably heroic. Scant pages into the book he's knighted by the Queen, and not long after that he's giving the Prince a pep talk and handing him back his manhood. (No, I'm not kidding.) Golly, that Jack knows everything and can do anything! Let's make him President! If you are a ten-year-old (or just think like one) you might like this book. If you're looking for something that doesn't insult your intelligence, look elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: Clancy's best book ever written! Review: Clancy did an excellent job on Patriot Games. The realism shows from the first page to the last. He uses techniques of writing that I've never seen in him in this book (obviously as I said good techniques) and uses words rather well. An excellent writer writes another excellent book.
Rating: Summary: Clancy is better than this! Review: The ending of this book provides the excitement, but the first half is barely digestable. I mean, really, Jack Ryan telling the Prince of Wales off, give me a break! Tom Clancy is a great storyteller, but this one is a major dud!
Rating: Summary: Instant Classic Review: Patriot Games is my first Tom Clancy novel. It was excellant! The terrorists are convincing. I particularly like the Sean Miller character. The plot is typical Clancy storyline:an intriguing combination of action and emotion. The scene where Cathy Ryan is gunned down in her Porsche is great. The narrative is smooth. A fantastic novel. The story involves IRA assassins attempting to avenge their failed operation in London by killing Jack Ryan and family. The finale is suspenseful. Tom Clancy at his best. If only it went on like this.
Rating: Summary: a very interesting read Review: I really liked this book. It was nice to have a story that not only was about Jack Ryan, but the rest of the Ryan family. The use of the characters is excellent, and does a good job of letting you know more about Jack and Cathy Ryan. I strongly suggest you read this book.
Rating: Summary: Different Feel, But Still One of Clancy's Best Review: This book seems to have a different feel than the other Jack Ryan novels. Not to say that it is bad, but just different. This book focuses on Ryan & Family, not Ryan & bad guys. I personally liked this difference a lot. It really let me get to understand and know the character Jack Ryan, while still maintaining an exciting story line and realistic events. An excellent book
Rating: Summary: A good book Review: Ths is, indeed, a very good book. The plot grabs you in the first ten pages, and, although, severely loosens its hold at places, such as the CIA office, it never really lets go. The book is vulgar, however. It may be because I'm old-fashioned, or because I don't hear profane language on a regular basis, or it may be because I'm one of the few people left in the world with more morals than opinions (although I have a lot of those as well), but this book is very profane. If you object to this, as I do (I needed to read the book for school), do not read this book!
