Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Review: This chronologically the first Jack Ryan book. In this one, after foiling an IRA-like group's attack on the royal family, Ryan himself becomes their target. Implausible? Yes. But Clancy has a knack for making these types of plots work (see also: Sum of All Fears; Debt of Honor) This novel is one of Clancy's shorter works, only clocking in at about 350 pages. However, Clancy's meticulous attention to detail is there as usual. This book is a great place for any new Clancy reader to start since it is the ealiest story of Jack Ryan.
Rating: Summary: Jack Ryan Playing Patriot Games Review: As a crime fiction writer with my debut novel in its initial release, I have been impressed by the success of Tom Clancy and his Jack Ryan character for as long as I can recall. In PATRIOT GAMES, Clancy provides the backstory for Jack Ryan. In PATRIOT GAMES, Ryan takes on the ultra-left wing of the IRA and prevails. Clancy, as always, tells a good story. His plot is well-paced. His characters are interesting. Jack Ryan is a winner. So is PATRIOT GAMES.
Rating: Summary: A good and interesting action thrilled book. Review: I think Tom Clancy's Patriot Games is a well written and good book. He makes something fictional seem like it really happened. I found this book interesting because it shows how dangerous working for the government could be and it has alot of shooting and action. I talk to people every day and they take working for the government for granite. I think every body should read this book due to is reality check for people and if you like books with alot of action.
Rating: Summary: And I don't even like this genre! Review: Very well written book - whether you like the genre or not.As other reviews mentioned, there is a lot of action, but it's not the focus of the book.I liked the psychological leanings here - Jack Ryan thinking about and dealing with everything, from getting suddenly involved in an assasination attempt,to having to protect his family in US,to his involvement in CIA.I've read a few other books by Clancy, and I think this one is the best - more thorough, with more solid plot.
Rating: Summary: Clancy Perfection Review: Patriot Games, is by far the best of Clancy's work. This was the third Clancy book i had read and simply loved it. The way he took Ryan's smaller role in Hunt and transformed him into the most notable "spy" in literature was amazing. The plot was flawless and the other characters were not shabby. If you have not read this book you are missing quite an adventure.
Rating: Summary: Patriot Games Review Review: Tom Clancey's Patriots Games is an excellent book of national and world terrorism. On this book, Jack Ryan, and ex-marine experiences the perils of working in the CIA and interfering with dangerous terrorists. Jack Ryan was enjoying a nice day with his family while vactioning in London. He stumbles upon something that he didn't expect, terrorists. Ryan manages to stop them, but no without a price. He doesn't think that the terrorists will ever interfere back home, on US soil, but he was wrong. Partiot Games has an excellent climax and yet had a very well developed plot.
Rating: Summary: Reveiw of Patriot Games Review: Tom Clancey's Patriot Games is a book about the perils and dangers involed in creating risks and getting in the way of international terrorists. Tom Clancey's, Pratriot Games in an excellent book for teens and up. It starts out with Jack Ryan, x-marine reviewing a book for his history on a naval base. He and his family were taking walk while guns shots rang out. In an attempt to stop 2 terrosists armed with semi-automatic guns, he is shot, but destroys the plans of the terrorists, kill the Princess of Whales. As Jack soon recovers and leaves for his home in America, he doesn't expect that the ULA, the terrorist group, will never operate in the US. He was wrong. Patriot Games ends in an astonishing climax. If you'd like to find out the compelling climax and aslo the well developed plot, read this book.
Rating: Summary: One Of Clancy's Greatest Books To Date!!!! Review: This book is Clancy at some of his best. The action starts in the first chapter. In the chapter, CIA anylast Jack Ryan witnesses a shooting while vacationing in London. Jack interveines and kills two of the shooters. One shoots him in the shoulder and escapes. Later Jack learnes he saved the Prince of Wales, his wife, and their new son. He also learns that the attack was done by one of the most dangerous and secretive Irish terrorist organizations, the Ulster Liberation Army or ULA. Soon, Ryan and his family become a target of international terrorism. This book was exciting! A page turner indeed. Besides a few dull filler chapters, every chapter is as exciting as the previous. The smaller sub-plots provide action in every page. A bit long when you first look at it, but it is truly a thriller. Clancy is the king of detial. The man could write a 1,000 page story on a trip to the grocery store and still keep you entertained. Not that I want him to write this though. An all around great book! "Two Thumbs Up!"
Rating: Summary: Long book, with little action Review: If you are looking for an action packed book, this isn't the one for you. There are some very good action sequences in the book. But most of the time it just about Jack Ryan sitting around thinking about the terrorists. The beginning of the book starts out with a good action scene with an assination attempt on the British royal family. What comes after that was mind numbing. Pages and pages were written about Ryan being laying in a hospital bed. The rest of the book has a few action scenes, but not enough to really keep my attention for long. If action is important in your decision to buy a book, then this really isn't the one. But if you are a fan of Clancy, this one is worth the read to be able to compare it to his other books.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This book hooked me. It was my first Tom Clancy novel and so far, its my favorite (I've read 3 other Clancy novels). It gets the reader's attention immediately by starting off with an action scene. You're much like the main character asking, What's happening? What was that? Who are they? The main character Jack Ryan, stops a terrorist attack on the Royal Family and soon finds himself and his family, in a whole lot of trouble. In case you haven't noticed, I'm a high school student who finds reading a chore, but this book introduced me to the wonderful world of reading. C'mon, if a high school student actually read a book, then that book must of been totally awesome. And I know others who enjoyed this book as well. Just do yourself a favor and don't watch the movie. It reeks. It might of given the book or even Tom Clancy a bad name. Kill some time and read this book!
