Review: After reading Jenny Siler's most recent novel, SHOT, I could not wait to read her first two novels: EASY MONEY and ICED. I just finished EASY MONEY and I must say that it is interesting to see the development of a writer. In MONEY, Siler has created another hard-boiled gun toting take no crap heroine who is innately the equal of any man and smarter. Allie Kerry is a courier for a guy who might be best described as a low rent Lothario with no scruples and probably the first 'guy' in Allie's life. Joey has asked Allie to pick up a package in Washington State and deliver it to Houston. What happens next is a wild ride across the underbelly of America with some volatile ingredients: a nice blend of CIA intrigue, concealed drug ops during the Viet Nam War, shootouts across the country from Bremerton to Miami and enough action to satisfy any adrenaline junky. One cannot help but believe that there is a little of Siler in each of her women characters. Siler is described as having worked as a forklift driver, a furniture mover, a grape picker, a salmon grader, a tutor to deaf students, a waitress, a sketch model, and a bartender. Blended with Siler's rather formidable educational background at Andover and Columbia her writing skills are just simply fabulous. Nothing like life experience and intellect to make a novel hum with the excitement and adventure created by Siler in EASY MONEY. Her poetic and lyrical style and interesting character creations are in a word flawless. You won't soon forget Joey, Mark, Chloe, Cyrus, Darwin, Willie Phao and John Wykel: all of these characters are well fleshed out and each has a certain edge that makes him or her unforgettable. Jenny Siler is the real deal. Siler is to the West what Faulkner was to the South. Someday, Siler will definitely be included in the pantheon of great American writers.

Summary: Do We Really Care About This Heroine?
Review: Alison Kerry is our protagonist, and she makes her living as a courier hauling drugs and other contraband from one crook to the next. Her father is also in the drug business, as is his best buddy, and his girl friend.....etc. An honest guy sneaks into the book, but the author does him in quickly so that he doesn't make the other characters look too tawdry.

So, what's our Key West, trailer trash heroine (with the attractive feminine nickname of "Al") up to? She's moving a computer disc with some Vietnam secrets from one bad guy to the next, and she runs into trouble. There are three ho hum action scenes in the book separated by great gobs of filler.

I didn't care about any of the following elements of the book: the heroine; her friends; her family; the tedious, hackneyed Viet Nam atrocity plot; the soporific action scenes; or the writing. This, indeed, is one of those books that once you put it down, you will have trouble picking it up again.

Summary: The roads not taken
Review: Allie, a narcotics courier, takes the job from hell. What secrets from Nam is she carrying? And why does everyone keep getting murdered? And don't you just know it's going to be the same lame conspiracy that we've seen one million times before? Well, actually, the conspiracy has its moments, and the texture of Montana is refreshing. And surprisingly unfluffy drag-queen sex workers, too.

Summary: It's A Cold, Hard World!
Review: Drug running is big business in Florida. Mangroves in small bay inltets up and down the west coast of the state were made for midnight deliveries.

Jenny Stiller takes the reader into the world of the drug runner. And, lest one get the impression that it's all excitement and glamour, this gripping novel gets it right. The days are endless, the friendships never truly exist and the life of a drug runner is one of constantly trying to survive only to run another load.

The protaganist in this novel is a woman, Alison Kerry from Key West. Interestingly enough, though, the action begins in Seattle and runs throughout the heartland of America. Violence and suspense, combined with good character development and a very believeable plot make this one great novel.

Summary: Average thriller...
Review: First let me preface my comments by saying, I listened to the abridged audio book version of this novel. As a result, some of the good parts of this book may have been cut out. With that said, I must admit the book didn't do much for me. I guess I thought with more recent "wars" in our history, reaching back for a Vietnam story was unnecessary. The main character was believable in her role, and parts of the story were pretty good. However overall, the story, in my opinion, was average at best. Would I recommend it? Only if you've finished all of the other hot titles on your to-be-read list.

Summary: Twisting Tail of Unanswered Questions and Mistrust!!!
Review: From the beginning the action starts and never stops. The plot takes you across the country and keeps you asking what's next. Will we see another book from Ms. Siler???

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Easy reading, hard to put down, travel fast and seedy!!!
Review: Having traveled in the many places Ali goes made this one of the best adventures reading I've had in years. Ms. Siler brings you right inside of the trip. This is a good sit down and let the mind build your place in the story, you'll feel like your sitting in that blue Mustang looking back over your shoulder, riding shotgun for Ali. This is not the place to give up the details, enjoy a good adventure, you might even need that Rand-McNally to find your way around.

Summary: Great new author!
Review: I brought this book on vacation with me, and it almost threatened my sightseeing! Definitely a page turner. I am constantly looking for new authors in the espionage / suspense genre, and I think Jenny Siler has converted me to a fan!
