Rating: Summary: Opened my Eyes to Reading Review: I fell in love with reading when I first read this book as a young boy. I wanted to be Danny and it made me laugh at the thought of having THE answer to the problem. Realistic in genre, yet fantastical in idea and form. Top 5 in my all time children chapter books - I bought a original for my own library.

Rating: Summary: Chamioning Danny Review: Roald Dahl is the best children's story teller I have ever read. His stories are creative, compassionate, well written, and meaningful, which of course isn't nearly as important to young readers as the fact that they are just plain fun. Danny the Champion of the World is the story of a young boy and his widower father trying to poach pheasants from a local aristocrat's property. Their appoach is creative and their adventure is exciting, but their relationship is also touching and very effective. It is very easy book and enjoyable for children, and for adults who know how nice a realtionship with children like the one Danny and his father share, it is a touching story. This book is meant to be read aloud, but it is a wonderful story for anyone to read to themselves as well.
Rating: Summary: A Quarter of a Century Later..... Review: Nearly 25 years after my husband and I first read "Danny" to our son, both we and he remember the thrill of Dahl's story and the magic of his words. The publishing industry has done an unusually good deed by reprinting it. If your child is the right age, buy it or borrow it from your public library immediately. "Danny" is a warm, whimsical, funny story that is also about pluck, ingenuity and courage; about families and communities sticking together; and about the ethics and dangers of breaking rules. Let's take a poll: Has anybody who has read this story (or heard it)ever again been able to eat a raisin without a split-second return to Danny's caravan and a fond chuckle?
Rating: Summary: If You Like Friendship This is a Great Book for You! Review: Danny, the Champion of the World By Roald Dahl Are two heads better than one? Find out in Danny, the Champion of the World. Danny and his father live in a small caravan next to his father's business, the filling station. Mr. Hazzel is rude, greedy and rich; he owns all the property except one little piece. One night Danny and his father go out to take all the pheasants from Mr. Hazzel's property before Mr. Hazzel's shooting party can begin. Will Danny and his father catch all the pheasants in time? Find out in Danny, the Champion of the World. I like this book because it shows caring between Danny and his father. Danny and his father stick together like true friends. The pictures I see are in my mind; they're black and white but very detailed. The author tries to teach you that by sticking together, anything is possible. You should really read this book.

Rating: Summary: Wow! It's a love story! Review: This marvelous story about a boy and his admiration and love for his father is a true masterpiece! I fell in love with both Danny and his father, and both characters were so compelling I could almost overlook his father's deep, dark secret. (I won't ruin the surprise for you.) Danny has a rather unconventional upbringing. His father, a mechanic, keeps him out of school until he is seven, because he feels it's important that the boy be able to completely take apart & put back together an automobile motor by the time he enters school. Danny's home education is by no means limited to automobiles; his father is a true naturalist, and shares his knowledge of birds, plants and animals with Danny. Not only does Danny adore his father, but it is clear that Danny is his father's best friend. The story really gets going after Danny is in school -- and discovers his father's secret. That's where the fun begins! This tale was alternately heart-rending and hilarious. I absolutely love this one and expect that our copy will become very tattered in a few years' time.
Rating: Summary: My favourite Dahl Review: I read pretty much everything by Dahl as a kid, including his few adult books, and this has always been my favourite, followed closely by James and the Giant Peach. It isn't typical Dahl... not as fantastical or as grotesque... but that works well. Danny's father's inventions and projects are cool and exciting because they are real. I wanted to go out and try these things... it prompted me to make my first kite. I thought that Danny's father was an wonderful character. He was poor, but worked hard and made his son's life exciting. He isn't perfect... like most of us, has a small dubious hobby... but it is dealt with wonderfully. I have this book tucked away for when I have children. I even pulled it out when I got engaged, to share it with my partner...
Rating: Summary: Something for your son and something for your dad. Review: In "Danny the Champion of the World" Roald Dahl tells a loving story of a father and his son, Danny. Danny grow up without a mother, but Danny's father is just enough for him to live happily. His father loves Danny more than anything else in the world, and Danny loves his father and teasures every momment with him. Danny helps his father in their automobile repair station, and they live in an old gypsy caravan. Just when Danny thinks everything is wonderful in life, one night his father disappears into the forest with a deep secret. Danny soon discovers his father's secret and that's when the adventure begins. This is a great book for every child with or without a father, and it is a great book for every father to read as a bedtime story for his children. This is probably my best book of all Roald Dahl!
