Summary: THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK
Review: I THINK THAT THIS BOOK IS REALLY INTRESTING AND BESIDES I EVEN SAW THE MOVIE.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Big Brother's Watching!
Review: Definitely not his FIRST great novel, but Grisham's big "breakthough" novel, that made him a household name....The Firm puts Mitch McDeere, newly graduated Harvard Lawyer, against two antagonists: His new employer ("The Firm") and the Federal Government.

Both are spying on him, bugging his house, watching his every move, etc. The Firm because they are managed by the mob and monitor all young lawyers to make sure they do nothing stupid! And the government sees McDeere as their ticket in, to have an insider, to arrest people in the firm involved in illegal activities. It seems like the feds should be on his side, but carelessness on their part gets him in even more trouble with The Firm....thus he decides to try avoiding both organizations.

The Firm is very suspenseful. Even before the suspense comes in, it is fun to read about Mitch's first few days on the job, learning what the law field is all about.

His ideas for beating both systems is very clever. Recommended reading !

Summary: A firm story
Review: There isn't really much that I can say in my review that hasn't already been said by others. I can say that it was my first John Grisham book and I can say that it is a very good book, maybe not a five star one. I can also say that you should read it if you haven't because it will provide you with a few hours of reading fun.

Critics: Loved it, became New York Times #1 Bestseller
Summary:
Mitch McDeere, a poor guy with a Harvard law degree, can't refuse the offer he gets from a small Memphis law firm. A brand new BMW, a house for him and his wife in a nice neighbor hood even. But there is a small catch... a few associates from the firm have been showing up dead! Now the FBI wants Mitch to help them expose the firm! Will this mean going back to his old life, living in a small apartment with his wife and driving his broken down car to a minimum-paying job that he hates? So now the FBI is after his testimony and his firm wants him dead. If he leaves his firm...he dies! If he stays there...he dies!
Liked/ Disliked:
I hope you can see how this is the kind of book where every time you turned the page you was jumping out of my seat sreaming "what happens next!" I loved this book enough to read it three times! It is full of suspense, murder, corruption, lust, and greed. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and you won't be able to put it down!

Summary: Exciting page turner
Review: Ok, the movie really let me down, but this is a book review of course on the book that launched Grisham. Assuming that you haven't read Grishom yet my advice; read 'A Time to Kill' first. The Author wrote that first and I think it is a better way to get into his mind and style. The intial printing of his first book was small, so most people read Firm first, as did I, but I really think as good as this one is, 'A Time to Kill' is more personal, more emotional and is really a better story.
The Firm is a solid story with plently of action and suspense and should be read along with the 'Pelican Brief', 'The Client' and 'A Time to Kill' before you read 'The Runaway Jury' and 'The Rainmaker' only because I think the latter two wouldn't be quite as fun as they are without a good base on how Grisham writes and thinks.

Summary: The Firm scores!
Review: Grisham Triumphs

As a Grisham fan, I found myself suprised that Grisham's The Firm was one of the more recent novels I have read. I unfortunatley started out with some of Grisham's more depressing novels (The Testiment, The Brethren) and wouldn't have bothered with any more of Grisham's novels had it not been for a friend who begged me to read it.This book, following the life of a young lawyer and his joining of a corrupt law firm that is involved with the Mafia, is an example of some of Grisham's finest work. With every turn, another shock, and with every discovery a new twist, The Firm will most definatley leave you on the edge of your seat-- although it's "only a book".

Summary: The Firm: Suspense at its best...
Review: This book has it all: fast women, fast cars, crooked lawyers, corruption and suspense. I read it quite sometime ago... but it stands out for its suspense. I think its setting in the south makes it much more interesting- It takes you from Memphis to the Cayman Islands and back again... Its a wild-ride and you can really feel the fear of McDeere- as he is on the run.

Though, if you're like me you probably have to read a Grisham book before you see the movie, if you plan on finishing it. Thats why I never finished 'A Time to Kill.' -No surprise or suspense left when you know whats going to happen.

Summary: What can you expect from a "law thriller"?
Review: Mitch McDeere is a law student straight our of Harvard. He immediately gets an offer from a hush-hush law firm in Memphis, which, as he later finds out himself is controlled by the Mob (and laundering billions of dollars every year). The offer is good, with a lot of money, nice company car, etc.

Mitch soon finds himself engulfed between the FBI and the law firm, knowing that he very well might be killed by the Mob if he says too much.

This book is certainly the most interesting "law thriller" that I have ever read (the only one, too) but 3 stars is the most any book about tax law suspense can get.

Summary: Great Grisham
Review: I rate this Grisham as one of his two best(other being The Testament). If you saw the movie, read the book anyway, as they are very differant. The movie was good, but the book was excellant. Mitch and Abby McDeere have the toughest decision of their lives, one that may cost them their lives. Highly recomended.
