Summary: THE FIRM
Review: Mitchell Y. McDeere has worked hard to get where he is: third in his class at Harvard Law. Aggressively recruited by all the top firms, and initially headed for Wall Street, Mitch surprises everyone by joining Bendini, Lambert and Locke, a very private, very rich tax firm in Memphis. Mitch and his wife Abby move to Tennessee and quickly settle into their new life: they're young, happy, and on the fast track. Or so they think.

Soon, though, Mitch senses trouble: two of the partners die in a suspicious diving accident off Grand Cayman; the firm's management is overly proud of the fact that no one has ever resigned; and security measures at the firm are even for a company with billionaire clients more than a little stringent. Then, suddenly, Mitch's vague suspicions come to life. While eating alone at a nearby diner, he is approached by a man named Tarrance who claims to be with the FBI. Tarrance tells Mitch that the firm's "security" people have bugged his phone, his house, and probably his car; that he is in great danger and should be extremely careful; that he cannot tell a soul of their meeting; and that the FBI will contact him again soon. Then he is gone.

In subsequent meetings with Tarrance, Mitch is told that the FBI has been studying Bendini, Lambert and Locke for years, and that while they have a few legitimate clients, they are most assuredly not a law firm. When Mitch learns what they really are, he is at first shocked, then frightened; when he learns what they really do, and how they do it, he is terrified. And when Tarrance tells him the FBI needs an informant inside the firm, he realizes he's trapped: the FBI will bust him if he doesn't cooperate, and the firm will kill him if he does. There's no way out. Or is there?

Blending the suspense of Ken Follett with the legal intrigue of Scott Turow, this is one of those rare novels that grab you on page one and simply cannot be put down.

Summary: Enjoyed it more than the movie
Review: For some reason, I didn't enjoy this movie. But I did very much enjoy the book. I'm told this is one of Grisham's best. I've only started reading his books, but I've always enjoyed his movies. This story line kept me up reading at night. It had been awhile since I'd watched the movie so I was on the edge of my seat to see how they'd get out of this firm alive!
Very much recommend it. Good ending as well.

Summary: the book that made me say reading was okay
Review: The book "The Firm" was written by John Grisham. Im one of those people who don't read much but now, reading's not so bad. Mitch has just gotten out of college. He joined this new firm and is looking forward to becoming a partner with Bendini, Lambert& Locke. He's taken the bar exam, working 90 hours a week, and he just recently told that he's been listened to 24/7. Tarrance and Mitch have just been talking and introducing themselves then on page 123 paragraph 6: "Would you like something to drink?" Mitch asked. "no thanks." "Why do you watch the Bendini firm?" Tarrance smiled and looked toward the Greek. "I can't really say at this point. We got our reasons, but I didn't come here to talk about that. I came here to meet you , and to warn you." "Warn me?" "Yes, to warn you about the firm." "Im listening" "Three things. Number one, don't trust anyone. There's not a single person in that firm you can confide in. Remember that. It will become important later on. Number two, every word you utter, whether at home, at the office or anywhere in the building, is likely to be recorded. They might even listen to you in your car." Mitch watched and listened intently. Tarrance was enjoying this. "And number three?" Mitch asked. "Number three, money doesn't grow on trees." "Would you care to elaborate?" "I cant right now. I think you and I will become very close. I want you to trust me, and I know I'll have to earn your trust. So I don't want to move too fast. We can't meet at your office, or my office, and can't talk on the phone. So from time to time I'll come find you. In the meantime, just remember those three things, and be careful." In that passage, it indicated that Mitch started to have suspicions. He later on figured out that Tarrance wasn't lying and is torn between telling the truth and become the hero, or mind his own business, pretend like nothing is wrong, and retire happily.
The theme of the book is: "You can't always justify something by how it looks or what people tell you." I agree with the there because in "The Firm," real stuff like this really do happen in life. The theme relates to my life, im not really sure. Maybe another way of saying this is "Don't judge the book by it's cover."
I would definitely recommend this book to others because it's not sophisticated, even though it talks about law, you can still understand. I seldom read but after this book, reading isnt bad at all.

Summary: Bestsellers Review
Review: For the first Grisham book that I've ever read, I was really impressed with it. At first I wasn't sure if I really wanted to read it, but I was pressed into it by family and friends. I am so glad that I did!! The Firm is a book full of suspense and it always keeps you on your toes. I felt as if I were right there with the main character, through all his troubles.
The Firm is about a young industrious lawyer, Mitch McDeere, who straight out of law school finds himself in a firm that will get him more money than he's ever known. Mitch stays with the firm for a few weeks, but then is approached by the FBI, who tells him he is being listened to 24/7. Mitch then goes on the run, pursued by the firm, who now threatens his life.
The Firm is one of those books that is impossible to put down, I found it hard to stop and pay attention to the things that I really needed to pay attention to. If you're looking to start reading some of Grisham's books, I suggest starting with this one.

Summary: An Exciting Legal Thriller
Review: The Firm is a fast paced legal thriller that kept me wanting to know more. From the start, this book took my interest and held it until the very end. This book contains many qualities that make it interesting to read. There are the struggles that Mitch McDeere faces as he struggles to carve out a nice life for his wife and him. He also faces conflicts between himself and his incarcerated brother. The main conflict, that ties the others together, is his struggles with the firm he belongs to. This book is exciting and realistic. The author John Grisham was once a lawyer, and he brings knowledge about law into this book to make it more lifelike. The Firm makes you question the fact that everything is as it seems. It also makes you appreciate the simple lives that we lead and reminds you to not take these simple things for granted.

Summary: Good Book
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It keeps you in suspence. You can actually feel like you are in the persons shoes. John Grisham is a good author, and many of his books turned into movies. I would recomend this book too any one who likes John Grisham or likes action and suspence books.

Summary: great book with good suspense
Review: this was the first grisham book that i ever read. it was recommended to me, but i really didn't want to read it because i didn't think i'd like a book about a lawyer or anything to do with law in general or courtroom scenes, which is what i thought any book based on a lawyer would be about. well, i could hardly put the book down. it wasn't what i expected at all. it wasn't about trials and appeals and all that stuff. it had plenty of suspence and a great plot. mitch is a very smart and risky man to do all he did without getting caught. i'd recommend this book to anyone, no matter what your preferred genre is.

Summary: Mindnumbing
Review: This is a book for people who neither like to read nor to think. The plot is extremely formulaic. I was surprised at no point during the narrative. The dialogue was laughably bad and unrealistic. His idea of Caribbean culture was taken from a travel ad. His slobberingly loving descriptions of the main character's designer name possessions reflect the worst aspects of mindless 80's materialism. The fact that so many Americans were vapid enough to buy and love this book saddens me.

Summary: This started the snowball that is John Grisham
Review: This was Grisham's first novel and changed the landscape of legal thriller's!! Turow and Lescroart are the only two that EVEN COME CLOSE to Grisham!

This story about a poor lawyer college student all set to graduate is great; it has shady secrets, partners that suddenly die, action, suspense, and a little romance thrown in. It is just a fun and entertaining read; perfect for the beach in summer time on vacation.

Grisham writes with a clear and concise voice, has a razor-sharp wit, smooth plot, and of of course plenty of action and thrills with a surprise twist of an ending.

Two thumbs way up for the modern master of legal thrillers!!
