Summary: Grisham's on Firm ground with this one
Review: This was the first Grisham book i ever read, and it got me hooked. I had seen some of the film before without really knowing who wrote it, so i decided to buy the book and read it. The hero of the story is a young man named Mitch McDeere who is fresh out of law school at Harvard. He graduated third in his class and job offers are pouring in from all over the country. Huge firms in Washington and New York will pay him handsomely, but one small firm in Memphis caught his attention with a new BMW, $80,000 a year and hundreads of other perks he had only dreampt about. After a while, the funerals, the FBI agents and the sinister happenings of the firm in the Cayman islands catch up with him. The story, after numerous twists and turn reaches a climax in Florida, when it comes to the crunch, who is cleverer, the FBI, State police and Mob put together, or Mitch McDeere a 24 year old lawyer. Have a guess.

The book certainly is very gripping and there is always a sense and indication of worse things to come. For example, on Mitch's first day with the firm, he attends the funeral of two men who tried what he is about to try. At first Grisham give us the impression that the firm is warm and friendly but he cleverly changes this perception as the book continues by having them lie and blackmail Mitch. I think this book is simply perfect for a sequel and i think that Grisham has already given us it with THE PARTNER. The firm is an excellent book that i would recommend to anyone. I hope my review was interesting.

Summary: A reader from Austria
Review: I have choosen this book because I have to read a good book for our booktalk in a commercial school.

Before I read the book I have already seen the film with Tom Cruise. So it wasn't difficult to read the book.

Mitch McDeere is young, intelligent and amibtious. When he gets a job with the law firm of Bendini, Lambert & Locke it seems to be the path to money and power. But soon Mitch finds that the firm is listening to all his phone calls, and the FBI want to speak to him. Money and power has a price - and it could be Mitch's life.

Summary: things are not as we like them to be
Review: This is my first Grisham's book and I found it very exciting. It's full of action, suspense, and lot of twists. It's very well written, and the characters are very real. Some people say that there were some parts very predictable, but I think that is very difficult to an author to write a book where no one can figure out what comes next, but I think that Grisham did a great job, because there were some parts that I assure you, you didn't see that coming. I enjoyed this book so much that I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read the others Grisham's books. You won't regreat reading this one. And it give you something to remember forever: all that glitters is not gold, or as Ray would say: No todo lo que brilla es oro.

Summary: If you look at the bio's for all Grisham books....
Review: If you look at the bios for all Grisham books, what should jump out at you is that John Grisham started with The Firm, and used that as a shell for all of his later books. Yes, they are good reads, but all of his books are THE SAME. What they lack creativity, Grisham tries to make up with a superb knowledge of the legal system. This, like most Grish books, is for those who are interested in the innerworkings of our legal systems, not for those who are looking for a stimulating read.

Summary: Grisham's Breakthrough
Review: Although The Firm is John Grisham's second novel, it is the book that introduced him to the masses. The story is a gripping, intricate tale of a young lawyer who seems to have found the perfect law firm to work for. Mitch McDeere is at the top of his class at Harvard law. He is the classic struggling law student, he has no money, lives in a shoebox apartment and drives a broken down heap of a car. Upon graduating, he is flooded with offers for his services, but instead of following the normal course of a top Harvard law student and taking a job with a big New York City law form, he chooses the small firm of Bendini, Lambert & Locke in Memphis. Despite its small size, the company offers Mitch a new BMW, a nice house, student loan relief and lots of other perks. Mitch and his wife move to Memphis to start their new life. At first everything seems ideal, but things are quite what they seem. Mitch wonders why no one ever quits the firm and the mysterious deaths of lawyers who are malcontents. He uncovers the fact that the firm is actually run by the Chicago mafia. Through many twists and turns, Mitch goes head to head with the firm, to a thrilling conclusion. Mr. Grisham's details of the city of Memphis are vivid and his crisp writing style keeps you engrossed. The book is highly entertaining and a great read.

Summary: The most intense Grisham Novel so far
Review: Hi there, I'm a 15 year old Australian chick who's only halfway through my 3rd Grisham novel and already it's the best by him so far. I plan to read all of them but so far "THE FIRM" is the best. Grisham has written it really well, he is my favourite author and I can't seem to put the book down. He uses great descriptions of the characters and gets the reader really involved in what they're reading!! The storyline is intense and exciting and believable which makes it so much easier to read. If you're looking for a great novel, this is it!! READ THIS BOOK!! It's excellent!! I think that and I'm only half the way through!! I'd recommend it to anyone!!

STAY GLUED BOOKWORMS!!

Summary: A Guilty Pleasure for a Teacher of "Literature"
Review: I know that, as someone who teaches courses on bona fide "literature" at a university, I'm not supposed to like stuff like this, but I've read "The Firm" twice and I wouldn't be surprised if I picked it up again in the next year. Grisham is not, in my opinion, a great writer--by which I mean his characters seem at times underdeveloped, and his use of the English language is often predictable and unenlightening--but he may be one of the best storytellers I've ever read. "The Firm" is a masterfully plotted piece that moves along so fast you feel like you're being dragged, but not so fast that you feel you're being left behind and lost. The intricacies of McDeere's efforts to steer himself and his wife out of the fine mess he's gotten them into at his new law firm are best illustrated by the terrible film made of Grisham's novel; a two-hour format was just woefully inadequate to chart the twists and turns of the narrative. As a teller of tales, Grisham is much more than capable, and "The Firm" is probably his best.

Summary: Money Kills...
Review: This book is the story of Mitchell McDeere, a young, poor lawyer out of Harvard Law. He finished among the top three in his class and has recieved offers from law firms all over the country, including the small, conservative tax firm of Bendini, Lambert & Locke in Memphis, Tennessee. They offer more than any other firm: a new BMW, a new house, a large salary with many incentives and bonuses, student loan relief, and a community and way of life. But before long, Mitch is confronted by the truth: the firm is actually owned by a powerful Chicago mafia family and once you are in, there are but two ways out: dying and retiring while keeping your mouth shut. The whole book is fascinating, from the beginning when the lawyers were outlining the terms, to the middle, when we discover why those terms are in place, and the espionage begins, to a suspenseful manhunt for the McDeeres which includes the police, the FBI, and the mob. This is absolutely compelling reading and makes you think about if a firm that controls every aspect of your life, that can hear every word you say, does exist.

Summary: The book was so great
Review: I reccomend this book to anyone who likes a good suspense thriller. Grisham is very talented in keeping you wondering what is going to happen next. He portrays his characters so well you feel like you know them, and you always want to help them out of the tough situations that life in the firm puts them through. The book is very good! I actually read the whole thing cover to cover, I rarely finish a whole book my attention is hard to keep but Grisham is my kind of author and i can't wait to read the rest of his books really soon.

Summary: The first and still the best...
Review: One of the first (if not the first) Lawyer in jeopardy books and probably still one of the best. We learn just enough about the characters to care, the dialog is a bit cheesy, but palatable; but the highlight here is the intelligent, plausible plotline that has now been done to complete death (lawyer signs on with firm only to find something not quite right). Too bad the genre couldn't have continued on this high note.
