Rating: Summary: Even better than 'Term Limits' and hard to put down Review: I thought Transfer of Power was a well done novel. The action was great and the insider material was excellent. I was surprised to find several typos including the wrong spelling of Fort Meade. Of a critical nature I was puzzled by how a terrorist like Aziz could plan for so many contingencies and yet have so little interior surveillance allowing an intruder to operate undetected. I also wondered why Aziz seemed to completely forget about a female hostage now loose in the mansion. Agreeing with one of the other reviews I too thought the ending came up rather quickly based on the tremedous build up. I'm sure in the movie it will take up a larger part of the action. I anxiously look forward to his next novel.
Rating: Summary: Great summer reading. I was on the edge of my hammock!! Review: Flynn is an up and coming author. I loved 'Term Limits' and liked 'Transfer' even better. He has got a style of writing that makes the reader feel like they are part of the story. I highly recommend and can't wait for the movie.
Rating: Summary: Flynn is the new master Review: In his second novel, Mr. Flynn shows that he has staying power. Flynn seems to have an excellent handle on how to blend a political thriller with a military thriller. I love his use of elite units, ala Delta Force, DEVGRP (SEAL Team Six), and FBI HRT. But what Flynn does best is create characters you love to hate! He did this in Term Limits and once again continues the trend. The VP and his chief of staff are true spineless politicians who are the scurge of our country. The antics they pull off during this crisis boils your blood. And who doesn't love it when the straight shooting, real man (Rapp in this case) tells them how it is. I loved this book and highly recommend it. The only thing I did not like about it was the ending. For all the great buildup it had, I thought it ended too quickly. But, the time inside the Whitehouse, the president's bunker, and the HALO jump are awesome! A side not to this book is the Aziz's tactics of using the politicians for his own purposes. It does make a statement about our country and who runs it. I truly hope Flynn continues writing books like this.
Rating: Summary: Political thriller at its terrorist best Review: Repercussions from the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland remain a decade after the ugly incident. Mitch Rapp's brother died on that fatal flight. Consequently, Mitch signs on to the top secret CIA Orion Force whose only mission is to terrorize terrorists. At one time the plot of Transfer of Power would have been only a writer's fantasy. However, in the modern world of technology and funding, no terrorist act seems out of reach anymore. Using that premise, Vince Flynn provides readers with an exciting political thriller filled with non-stop action seen through the minds and souls of different people. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Nonstop action. Review: The action moves fast in this one and there in lots of suspense. Tough to put down. A notch below his "Term Limits", but strongly entertaining nonetheless. The characters are deeply drawn and the villains particularly detestable. A couple of the good guys appeared in "Term Limits" and lend a continuity and certain air of credibility to the book. I hope Mr. Flynn keeps them and continues their development. There's a bit of humor amid the captivating, fast paced writing. I think Mr. Flynn tells a good tale, and with a minimum suspension of disbelief it is easy to get involved and not put his books down. I have added Vince Flynn to my list of must read writers.
Rating: Summary: Top of the Heap!! Review: I was very impressed after reading Vince Flynn's first novel "Term Limits". I immediately purchased and read "Transfer of Power" when it became available. This one even surpassed the first novel in everything you like to read in this type of story. Hard to put down and go to sleep, you want to keep reading all night if necessary. Action is outstanding, relevant to the times and believable. The characters cover the whole scope of the good, the bad and the ugly and each one is done in magnificent style. His understanding of and the use of various types of military/civilian special ops units is excellent, coupled with the many times they are handcuffed by politics and behind the scenes manuevering of those in power, who are more worried about their press reviews than the final outcome of the crisis, makes for reading you feel a part of. Vince Flynn has rapidly gone to the top of my list of authors for whom I eagerly await the next book to be published. I hope that there are many more to come, and soon!!
Rating: Summary: I've read it three times Review: One of my favorite books, hands down. What makes a book for me is a strong protagonist, and Mitch Rapp, a CIA assassin is about as strong as they get. The plot is chilling and Flynn details it and makes it real. Amazing book. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Rating: Summary: Powerful Story Review: Transfer of Power is the second book by Twin Cities author Vince Flynn and the first installment in his thrilling Mitch Rapp series. The book begins with Rapp's arch-enemy and terrorist, Rafique Aziz, posing as Prince Kalib. His generous donation to the DNC allows him to bypass normal White House security procedures and gain direct access to the Oval Office and President Hayes. Meanwhile Aziz's team of terrorists successfully breaches White House security and overpowers the surprised Secret Service agents. Aziz was within seconds of killing the President in the Oval Office when Secret Service Agent Jack Warch discovers the ruse and rushes the President to a secure bunker in the basement of the White House. With President Hayes safely in the bunker but unable to communicate with outside forces, Vice President Baxter assumes control of the national security team. Baxter is indecisive in his role as leader and is led by his Chief of Staff, Dallas King, who is more concern with perceptions than successfully resolving the crisis. The national security team not only faces a terrorist cell who has captured the White House with 100 hostages and has the President trapped in an underground bunker but also the ineffective leadership of the Vice President and his immediate advisor. Enter Mitch Rapp, the CIA's foremost counter terrorism expert and number one assassin. He must secretly infiltrate the White House and provide reconnaissance for a potential rescue effort. Once inside, he becomes a disruptive force battling the terrorist cell. It becomes the classic battle of good versus evil with the good guys dealing with the differences of a military response and political one. My only criticisms of this book are the somewhat stereo-typical cast of characters and minor inaccuracies with regard to military capabilities. Flynn overcomes these flaws by an action-packed pace, engaging dialog, and placing the characters in an intriguing storyline. This book is a worthy read for anyone interested in the politico-military thriller. It is a very good start to the series and I look forward to reading more about Mitch Rapp. I recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Rivals the best of Clancy Review: I picked this up at the local library, and since I read Memorial Day and Seperation Of Power, I decided to give Vince Flynn another chance because I didn't care for Seperation of Power, but after reading Memorial Day, I knew I had to read more, so I picked up this book. Transfer Of Power is probably the BEST action book out there since Bob Mayer's Eye's Of The Hammer. The story takes place in D.C. of course, and terrorists find out a way to get into the White House; through a secret door that was used by J.F.K. to bring in Marilyon Monroe, the main terrorist is Aziz (sorry I can't spell his first name) take a sort-of dump truck and rams into the door, a firefight happens killing Secret Service members, and while President Hayes is so-called having a meeting with the Prince of Oman...but it is not the Prince of Oman, it is a terrorist posing as the Prince. President Hayes is then rushed to a bunker locking him and Secret Service members inside. Outside, everyone is gasped to see that terrorist invaded the White House and with 30 hostages, one of them being Anna Rielly; a reporter which was her first day at the White House as a White House Correspondent. Talk about a exciting first day. Then Mitch Rapp comes in, but Aziz wants demands met; one of them being UN sanctions on Iraq (this book was written before 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq and Saddam is still in power in this book) is one of their first demands. Eventually the demands are met thanks to the Vice President who is now holding Presidential powers since Aziz cut off communication throughout the White House, and the outside world thinks that President Hayes is one of the captives inside, but they don't know that he is safe. Mitch Rapp is watching everything inside the White House, and a first rescue with SEAL'S and Delta Force fails and they have to draw back and lick their wounds. Yet Mitch Rapp has a plan to get inside the white house, and he can only turn to one person that know's the in's and out's of the White House. He meet's one of the reinventors in his apartment and he has blue prints to every kunck and cranny in the White House. Eventually, Mitch and his friend are dropped into the White House through a air-vent, and one of the terrorist decides thta he is going to rape Anna Rielly, but Mitch kills him with his 9mm with a sliencer on it. Now Mitch, his friend, and Anna wait in a closet waiting for the next orders. Aziz then as another demand; to freeze billions of dollars on Iran and to transfer the money into a private account. Eventually he let's some hostages go. The main brass is getting tired of the Vice President because the generals want to go in there, and get this over once and for all, but the Vice President tells them that he will not risk American lives, so the generals wait in disguist. Now Mitch must try to find a way to get to the President, but Mitch finds out that the terrorist are trying to break down the bunker door with drills, and it is just a matter of time before they get to the President. Now in a bold move he then breaks the device that blocked the connection to the outside world, and President Hayes is back in business. Now President Hayes orders the raid to get back the White House, and success, but Aziz get's away...or so we think...
In Brazil, Mitch Rapp is there to kill Aziz, and finds his place and wipes him off of the earth.
This book I had to say was just plain amazing!!!! Vince Flynn does not waste a SINGLE page with this novel, and I can't wait for him to make more of his work this riviting. This book is a must
Rating: Summary: Read this book on a good reference... Review: I was looking for a good book to read when I saw a review where Dan Brown ("Angels and Demons" and "The DaVinci Code") made a great plug for Vince Flynn. I thought that if Dan Brown gives you a compliment, you must be one heck of a writer.
I was not disappointed. The pace is lightning fast and very well detailed. The main character is the epitome of a "shoot now, ask questions later" type of person. He is just the kind of character to drive a political/military thriller. I'm always eager to turn the page to see what else might happen.
Great book!
