Rating: Summary: It has only some sensible points which redeem it a 3. Review: I have not the misfortune of coming across the The Rules 1, but having read the sequel, I have a pretty good idea of how it is like. The rules 2 had a few sensible ideas like personal development, not being always at the beck and call of a man. The bit about being very vary of office romances also rings true for we all know how treacherous it can be. Its rules for married couples are quite irritating, it practically teaches us to be doormats to men! It your husband is not happy, it is all your fault because you did not do the rules on him. The other thing I find even more ridiculous is this Saturday night dates. Why are the dates on any other nights not considered "real dates" ? Take my example, I work in a hospital, I work nights and sometimes my Saturday is spent on duty. The person whom I see may be in the same line, so we cannot help it but go out on other nights, so does that make him any less sincere ? Lastly for all those women out there who are looking for husbands by doing the rules, I pity the men you date.
Rating: Summary: Loved This Book Review: I like this book, especially the section on same sex relationships. As a gay male, I don't want to get hurt in another relationship so the RULES gives me clear guidelines on what boundaries to form and also to first start dating myself and loving myself and doing things in my life that keep me happy...then maybe that special guy will come into my life, until then, I'm not sitting idle waiting...instead, I'm out and about...loud and proud. I hope the authors make a RULES book specifically targeted to the homosexual community out there that needs these boundaries written out for us.
Rating: Summary: Great book...ever wonder what you've been doing wrong? Review: I love this book it helped me know how to find the Man of my dreams!! It doesn't apply to everyone though...open your mind and open this book...it COULD help you like it did me!! Happily married since July of 1999!!
Rating: Summary: Good but extremely calculating Review: I preferred the first Rules book. I think that the rules have been written, very if not, too strictly and I am sure there is a reason for that. Women like myself are determined not to let men hurt them and the advice is good on the whole but we must admit that it is IMPOSSIBLE to follow the rules perfectly 100%. We all mess up at times as we are imperfect human beings, and men do not always treat us perfectly as most of the time, they don't know how even if they try hard to please us. The advice is very useful but I must admit that I cannot agree with it totally. The bit I have a problem with is whether to go on holiday with a man. There is nothing wrong with it in my opinion and it is a good opportunity for both of you to get to know one another better. After even though marriage is a goal for me and a lot of others out there, it is meant to be for life and we don't want to end up with the wrong guy! I cannot give 5 stars as I do not have an engagement ring at present but I do have a boyfriend who is not perfect but does try hard to be good to me and he's doing a pretty good job so far.
Rating: Summary: Give Me A Break! Review: I read the first and second books written by these authors. While I will admit that some ideas are plausible, many are not. We are to leave a relationship if a man doesn't give us something romantic for our birthday or Valentine's Day? Oh please. And we aren't supposed to say anything to him? Let's face it, many men don't understand women and these authors only want us to add to the confusion by not being open. I'm not saying we give our life story on the first date, but as time goes on, it's ridiculous to smile and pretend everything is OK. I also was concerned about how important looks are to them. We have to dress up and can't be overweight. Ladies, the majority of women are size 14 and up!! They also seem to frown on meeting a man in a location which is public (he should pick you up in the lobby of the building where you live-uh, like we all live in high rise apartments--WAKE UP!!). Personally, I don't want someone I don't know going anywhere near my home. You don't know what kind of lunatic he might be and showing him where you live isn't safe. I will concur, however, that he should show a little effort the first few times you go out: he should travel to a city close to where you live rather than vice-verce. In the end, Ms. Fein and Ms. Schneider have some valid points but, unfortunately, the weaknesses bring down strengths. I also thought I would look at their web-site. The amount they charge for certain items and services basically says "I want to be rich and this is how I'll go about doing it."
Rating: Summary: Don't knock it til you try it Review: I've read both books I and II. Like everyone else I thought it was ridiculous and manipulative. I realized I was skeptical because I didn't want to find out that what Sherrie and Ellen wrote was the truth! What about you why are so you skeptical?? Could it be you're afraid to find out the truth?? It wasn't til I actually started DOING The Rules (as with anything, don't knock it til you try it) that this book is really about helping a woman get what she feels she truly deserves. Most women opt for less, because they are afraid to want more. Ask yourself, what's makes you feel better: When you chase a man or when he chases you?? All I have to say is I feel sorry for all those anti-Rules women out there: You're self-esteem must be pretty low and have no confidence to believe that the man you are dating will deliver, and you have to resort to "being upfront" (aka "demand") what you need, not to mention settling for less because you are too afraid to be alone for awhile. All I have to say is better you than me to be stuck with a loser and/or in an unhealthy relationship. The Rules saved me!
Rating: Summary: WORSE THAN THE FIRST RULES!!! Review: If your not into playing games, don't waste your money! The part that really got me was..if your married it's OK to call your husband but only if you have a reason. Yeah...right!! How stupid!! I found my husband the right way..being myself. Hey, if you have a ?? about relationships, e-mail me. I'll be glad to chat and won't charge you a penny. Spend your money on a fun night out and don't bother with the krap in this lame book!
Rating: Summary: My best friend needed something/anything this was it Review: My gal pal was beatiing herslef up over her ex - whom she met in the workplace this book set her straight and got her to stop chasing him. And now truthfully he's chasing her, which is sad, but now she's got self esteem which is what i wanted her to have. Not only that but she's not acting like a high school girl anymore.
Rating: Summary: Think before you criticize... Review: Plenty of women spout common and cliched criticisms of these books. Let's take a popular one: Men say that they like it when girls ask them out, call them, they're shy, etc etc. Well I'm sure that if you polled 100 men, a significant number of them would say that they like it when girls sleep with them on the first date. It probably won't take a book to tell you that men aren't going to marry these girls. Think this is an extreme analogy? Fine, but think about what you're saying before you claim that men like this and men say this. Also, men wouldn't be very popular if they said that they liked to pursue women, they like to pay, they want to be the one to make the first move. They probably would get burned at the feminist stake. And as far as being yourself and doing what you feel, would you "be yourself" on a job interview? And you might feel like slouching, but you know it's not good for you, even though it doesn't "feel natural" to sit up straight. And when you want to lose weight, you don't do what you feel, you get up off of the couch to jog and get small fries instead of supersized. I think that the real reason that there is such an outcry against this type of advice is because it is the hardest. It is SO hard not to call, and not to tell him how feel, and not to rationalize his unromantic behaviors. But deal with your own issues instead of blindly raging against something that you clearly don't understand. Because if you did understand the Rules, truly understand them, you would be doing them.
Rating: Summary: Don't Miss It Review: Read this book will defintely change your love life. You will get what you want in a perfect way. It will be great if I find this book a year ago!!
