Rating: Summary: Don't Just Hate The Game, Hate the Players, too! Review: Mr. Dickey has come through with a novel that makes the last two even three novels of his pale in comparison. I've always enjoyed the ease of his style and the sensitivity with which he writes from a female point of view. Here again, he does not disappoint. The characters were incredibly well written, memorable, and quite vivid. The sex was good, the dialogue was good, and the plot twists were fantastic. I appreciate the way his main character (who remained nameless throughout the novel, another fine touch)was hurt beyond belief, but never weakened in the sense that she became a cliche or lived up to old-fashioned, worn out expectations. I loved this book. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of five is because I thought toward the end, it went a little Hollywood and fell off a bit. Not by much, though. This novel was a wake up call in some respects. And I can't help but wonder what would have happened in Fatal Attraction if the Internet had been then what it is today? Word to the wise and food for thought for all the playas out there. Male AND female. Better be careful. :) Is it really worth it?
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENCE AGAIN! Review: I have read all of EJD's books and have enjoyed most of them. I was kinda disappointed with his last book but THE OTHER WOMAN was outstanding. I couldn't put it down. It was not predictable at all and the drama continued throughout the book all the way to the end. The characters were well developed and he addressed issues that are very relevant in today's society! GREAT JOB!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Another EJD Great! Review: This is the best novel so far that he has written! His writing style has changed and everything is so descriptive. I felt the pain that Freckles felt and I longed for the love, affection and attention that she recieved from DL. The twists and turns floored me. I thought I could predict what was going to happen but I was SO wrong. This book is surely a page turner and it will be hard to put it down. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Man...It's a must-read! Review: I was completely taken aback by this book. The writing was so conversational that I kept trying to become Freckles. Of course we've all been in a relationship plagued by infidelity, but the decisions we make as a result of a broken heart never seemed soooo terrible until you read this book. So okay, it's about the other woman (hence the title), but it's about more than that: lies, deceit, betrayal, scorned lovers that you always figure will find their way back to one another. Yet, Dickey is not about happy endings. He's about the truth, and this book came so close to it it was scary. I don't want to give it away, but buy it, read it, keep it forever. I PROMISE you won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: No joke Review: I would recommend this book to everyone this was a well written book. The characters were so alive and DL was crazy for real, but that is the typical man,(I am not male bashing)can dish it out but can't take it when it happens to them. I think he went a little overboard but he was scorned. ha-ha. This is truly a good read.
Rating: Summary: E. Jerome Dickey remains the best Review: Mr. Dickey has done it again. The brother is great at the art of writing. He makes you deeply understand every character. I felt for each character and was very surprised by David's behavoir at the end of the book. He seemed so strong with his revenge tactics I never expected him to kill himself maybe the others but not himself. Fantastic WORK!!
Rating: Summary: One of his best. Review: This is one of the best books that he has written thus far. E. J. Dickey has really come into his own.The characters are well developed and there are twists and turns up to the last chapter. I have read everything he has had published and this is his best piece of fiction. Do yourself a favor and buy this book. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because I did not like the ending.
Rating: Summary: Dickey gets better and better! Review: The Other Woman is a story of a woman who believes because she does everything she thinks her man desires and needs, her marriage is intact. That is until she gets a phone call that changes and rocks her world in a different direction forever. With another nameless main character, Dickey weaves a completely believable tale fusing alternate and traditional views of marriage and relationships in the new millenium. By paying attention (but not too much)to every detail, Dickey completely awakens and heightens the reader's five senses, leaving no stone unturned. The book just works. Dickey's use of prose is not overkill, it moves the story along while each detail is placed appropriately and with purpose. In Dickey's acknowledgements, he advises us that he studied a Robert McKee book on structure and style. Dickey also advises that his best reminder in McKee's book was the principle of "reversal of expectation." Well Dickey you've done McKee proud because your ending as well as many different turning points in your story were delightfully unexpected.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I am a fan of EJD, have read and enjoyed all his books. But this one was disappointing. The story was perdictable and choppy, the characters colorless. This has fallen short of his usual brillance . Ending this book I was left not wanting more. I will stay a fan and await his next novel.
Rating: Summary: Exhibit A for EJD Review: The Other Woman proves why EJD is in the very small exclusive club of African-American authors who have cracked major bestselling books lists such as The New York Times and Publishers Weekly--without the benefit of an Oprah nod. He's one of those rare A-A authors who has been gifted not only with storytelling ability, but a true grasp of the language and the psychology of people. His prose displays beauty, depth, and pathos without being overwrought or too showy. It's not just about the high drama of creating yet another black soap operish "he-or-she-done-me wrong" plot to titillate the reader. Lord knows our black commercial fiction is overrun with those on the shelves. His skill with characterization displayed here takes it beyond that because he blurs the lines and doesn't choose the easy cliche. He makes you think. Hats off to EJD! Dude, it's downright scary how you just keep getting better and better!
