Summary: The Lottorey
Review: Absoulutley terrifeying. This is a must read, but only for those brave at heart!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Haunting!
Review: I read The Lottery in fifth grade and was also shown the short movie. That was almost 20 years ago and I still haven't forgotten it! I remembered details from that movie better than some recent movies I've seen or stories I've read. I just reread The Lottery a few days ago and it still gave me chills. I was too young the first time to appreciate the story and the meaning behind it. I highly recommend it-it will last a lifetime! (I was wondering if anyone else ever saw the movie-the OLD movie, not the recent remake).

Summary: What a great page turner
Review: This book was assigned to me by my writer's in world literature instructor. The book was very good one, I had never heard of it but now that I have read it I would recommend it to others who like a plot with a twist. If you like stories that make you think than this is a good book to check out. I also have heard that their is a move made from this story but have not yet checked it out.

Summary: This book was entertaining, and its title story chilling.
Review: To me,The Lottery and its other stories were all brilliantly written. I read Shirley Jackson's work for the first time in junior high, and it's had me under a spell ever since (and not unlike the ones she wrote about!) If you have not read her work, then I strongly urge you to do so.You won't regret it!

Summary: Timeless Piece of Work.
Review: Shirley Jacksons "The Lottery" leaves you feeling like you are living in that time frame. It takes place in almost any time or geographical area. It could be talking about the 50's or the 90's. I fell in love with her writing in college, and have recommended it to many friends and colleagues. It is a must to read, and definitely requires a mature taste in literature.

Summary: Extremely good reading!
Review: You should really read this book if you like to read scary stories. It will knock your socks off.

Summary: Twisted!!!
Review: I read the short story of the Lottery when I was a Freshman. I re-read it about three days ago, and it still gives me the creeps. What a briliant story. I was totally caught by surprise by the ending. For those of you who think it was demented. You just don't understand what she's getting at. She talking about society and the rituals we all perform no matter how stupid or rediculous they seem, we still do them. Masterfully written. I enjoyed it to the very end!!!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Amazing and disturbing.
Review: The stories are excellent but they leave you with a feeling of disgust, almost. What was that about? It's a good book, but not an enjoyable one.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Perspectives
Review: Shirley Jackson's short stories challenge the mind and the heart. She writes from perspectives and about characters that rarely find their way into print. Like most good stories, Jackson's little masterpieces present the main characters and the reader with a moral dilemma, but, while part of our brain screams "no!" the characters do not necessarily resolve the issue in the "correct" way. We are left troubled but with perhaps a little understanding about how good people can be cruel and smart people can act stupid.

Summary: Excellent writing skills but a poor story
Review: The writing skills are excellent but the story in itself was quite boring. Why do they carry on a tradition that's so cruel?I don't understand the point of writing such a dull book.It wasn't eerie or scary in any way.it doesn't fall under horror or comedy or factual. There isn't enough background on the characters or the hitory of the tradition and leaves me with too many questions. Why was the tradition started? Why is it kept going?Shirley jackson's writing is excellent but should be used in a different way. I preffered The Haunting.
