Rating: Summary: Still trying to finish this one Review: I, like the other reviewers, am an avid fan of all of Ms. Woodiwiss' other novels. I remember with joy reading "The Flame and the Flower" when I was in high school. I read most of her other books in two sittings or less. I am still trying to get through this one. The characters are week - Raelynn is insipid - and the Jeff Birmingham we knew and loved in "Flame" appears weak and unable to make any strong decisions. Perhaps someday I will be able to finish this novel - maybe it gets better towards the end?
Rating: Summary: Not a satisfying read Review: I have to be honest and say that I purchased this book a couple of months ago and finally finished it. This, like the last 2 KEW books was terribly disappointing. After reading the first chapter I had to pull out my thesaures, and I was an English Major in college. I was so frustrated by KEW's choice of words, that I had to put the book down for several days. When I finally got back to it, I was only able to read a couple of more chapters, before I had to put the book down again. I had to ask myself several times "when did this happen, what is she talking about?" before I realized that part of this story occured in another book! After that, I had to stop and read "Shanna" just to see if I was correct in remembering KEW's writing style. Comparing the 2 books, I could not see any similarity in the styles of writing. Over the last couple of months I would pick up the book and read a few chapters, only to put it down in frustrations. I also read 14 other books before I finished this particular one. I finally sat down and reread the whole thing just to make sure it was as bad as I thought. Ugh, it was the most painful and disappointing read of the year. This will probably be the last KEW book I will purchase.
Rating: Summary: I still love Woodiwiss Review: Everyone is talking about how "unbelievable" some of the plots are. Well, I guess I don't know of too many romance novels where the plots are entirely believable. That's why I love them so! It's a stretch of your imagination. I loved Raelynn and Jeff Birmingham, this book still made me want to get to the part where all their problems are resolved as quick as possible! I can't wait to go back and read my old Woodiwiss's, this one just made me remember how much I love all of them.
Rating: Summary: Skip This One! Review: I have enjoyed all of Kathleen Woodiwiss' books over the years and was so excited to find this new novel. Excitement quickly turned to sheer boredom for so very little happened in the first part of the book. I didn't bother reading the second 1/2 because I was so tired of reading about "her unmatchable beauty" and "what a fine specimen of a husband he was" over and over again!
Rating: Summary: Lukewarm story..... Review: This third book in the Birmingham saga left me feeling like more thought should have been put into this. Raelynn Birmingham, Jeff's wife, wasn't as much fun to read about than her sister-in-law Heather. The crime Jeff is accused of couldn't of been done by him, and the fact that Raelynn believes that he did is out of stupidity rather than trust. I couldn't seem to get past that fact in the story. We read how "in love" they are at the beginning and it trudges along, until the "crime" is commited. Then out of nowhere she doesn't believe him and doesn't trust him, etc. I thought it was kinda hard to swallow. When we do actually find out who the person is who actually commited the deed, it fizzles. What was the point? This whole book was leading up to the person, then I was left feeling dissapointed at best. The reasoning is kind of confusing also. The entire story I felt was a little hard to believe. The best parts are when Heather and Brandon make appearances. I was hoping Ms. Woodiwiss would've given Jeff's character a better story. Raelynn was a bit "flakey" at times, and I found myself irritated with her. Sometimes I couldn't understand why he even wanted to be with her. The one thing I found that I liked surprisingly was the fact that the story started off with them already married, a change from most romances. This was a "lukewarm" read at best, and doesn't do the Birmingham Saga justice. The first book "Flame and the Flower" was the best and still has my number 1 vote, the sequel is "Elusive Flame", its also pretty good, but this last one "Season Beyond A Kiss" isn't very convincing as even part of this saga. I hope this helps anyone out there.....=)
Rating: Summary: It's Jeff's story this time Review: I've been a fan of Ms. Woodiwiss' since I read the Flame and the Flower. I was very happy to read Jeff's story since he was so deserving of some romance in the Flame and the Flower. Unfortunately, I don't like his wife Raelynn as much as I LOVED AND STILL LOVE Heather (his sister in-law). This is a must read for Flame & the Flower fans but on it's own it's just kinda lukewarm. The sex is very sensual but again it's not as exciting and enticing as Brandon and Heather's story.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I was so excited to pick up a new book by Kathleen Woodiwiss. However, like most of the other reviewers I too have been disappointed with how slow the book moves and the flakey character of Raelynn. I did have the advantage of reading Three Weddings and A Kiss-a collection of short stories featuring a sequel to Flame and the Flower. That short story fully explains the unexpected meeting of Jeff Birmingham and Raelynn. Maybe reading that story will help explain the beginning A Season Beyond a Kiss.
Rating: Summary: WISH I'D READ THE REVIEWS Review: I wish I had read the reviews before buying the big, relatively expensive introductory edition. This book barely deserves mentioning when compared with Woodiwiss's other books. Raelynn is such a twit, I was happy to see Jeff's plan to dump her. The entire story seemed forced and superficial. Liked Jeff, but then, had the advantage of knowing him through his brother's story. The most irritating thing about this was the contrived story outside of the book that this one was supposed to be based upon. A totally ridiculous "literary" device. Shame on you, Kathleen Woodiwiss. Better to write nothing more at all than to manufacture a story with no heart.
Rating: Summary: Very disappointing Review: I owned all of Ms. Woodiwiss's books. This one is very disappointing beyond repair. I want my money back. All the characters are shallow. The story is so slow to pick up that after two weeks I am still on page 100. That is really rare for me. Ms. Woodiwiss where were you? Did you really write this book?
Rating: Summary: A Season Beyond a Kiss Review: I've read The Flame and the Flower and the Wolf and the Dove over 10 times each over the years. This book was just awful. I want my money back!
