Rating: Summary: Makes you smile Review: Though I am not typically a romance reader, someone gave me this book as a gift and so I picked it up to read one evening. I thought it was incredibly entertaining, romantic, and heartwarming. Easy to read and leaving you smiling, it does everything a romance novel is meant to do. I was not at all disappointed, perhaps because I'm not a die hard fan of such writing, but I thought it was worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Bits and Pieces Review: I also opened to the first page with high hopes. Despite what was supposed to be a torrid love scene, I felt like I was reading bits and pieces put together to simulate a book. There was nothing to draw you into the story. There was no heart. I will instead reread Shanna or The Wolf and The Dove.
Rating: Summary: Is everyone else reading the same book I read? Review: I really liked this book. I don't see how people are coming up with such negative comments about it. I thought that it was great! True, the plot is a little similar to the other Woodiwiss books, but then, all her books are like that, and they are still enjoyable to read! Perhaps you were all reading a different book from me, because I really liked it.
Rating: Summary: Not Worth the Wait Review: I should have known after it took over two hours to get past the first 50 pages that I was in trouble. This book was utterly disappointing. The caliber of writing is not up to the normal standards of K. E. Woodiwiss. I purchased this because it was a sequel and expected it to be just as good as its predecessor. Jeff Birmingham and Raelynn Barrett had no chemistry. I had no compassion for either of their plights which wasn't worthy of a storyline. The neverending commentary about fashion, was equally annoying and seemed to be used just to fill pages. This publication could have been a lot more in depth and to promote it as something we've been waiting for was a ruse. Next time I'll wait and pick up a copy from the library!
Rating: Summary: not the same Review: I started reading KEW books over 15 yrs ago.I had 2 small children and when they went to bed it was my time to read. I cant tell you how many times I enjoyed her books. Now I cant even recomend her new books to anyone. I dont know what the problem is but to me this is not the same author that I fell in love with years ago.It makes me so sad,I paid full price for this book and I could not even finish it.
Rating: Summary: Almost back to old form Review: I was relieved to see Woodiwiss could write a better book than Petals, yet this one was not quite up to Shanna or her other classics. Why write a book based on a short novella in a little-known series (unless prompted by editors), especially when it forces you to take your books out of sequence? I was so confused at first that I had to go back through her books and figure out who was who. The first half of the book plodded slowly, but halfway through, Kathleen found her rhythm and told a story I was finally interested in.
Rating: Summary: I felt like I missed something Review: I loved the Flame and the Flower...I read my original copy to tatters. I was thrilled to see a sequel (I always wondered what had become of the characters) but The Elusive Flame took me FOREVER to get interested in. I bought A Season Beyond a Kiss hoping for better but never felt like I knew what was going on. I struggled to finish reading the book and finally gave up in disgust. Throughout the entire thing I felt like my copy had been short the initial chapters that explained what was going on...
Rating: Summary: Is Kathleen Woodiwiss a nom de plume? Review: Is it really the original author writing the current crop of Kathleen Woodiwiss books? Or is someone just using the name and is so lacking in imagination and talent that he/she is just building on Ms. Woodiwiss's original ideas? None of the latest books are up to her previous output in quality or entertainment. When "Petals on the River" came out after no books for many years, I was overjoyed. The book was better than average, but not up to the previous books. However, "The Elusive Flame" was so bad, I was unable to make myself finish it. One of the reviewers said that one shouldn't expect much of a romance novel. While that may be true of most in the genre, Ms. Woodiwiss was an exception -- she was quality and could really write. One could depend upon her to create an intelligent heroine who used her brains -- and the character interactions in the book were reasonable (some quite inspired), not stupid. I will not buy any more of her books -- instead I will reread her first books. I will miss her. If I could, I would rate this book a minus.
Rating: Summary: Not as Bad as everyone makes it sound. Review: From the way some other people are rating this book, you'd think that they expect it to be a high class novel blah badi blah blah blah. Well it's a romance novel. Romance novels are supposed to be lighthearted and an easy read. As romance novels go this one was pretty darn good. I will admit that sometimes I just wanted to shake some sense into Raelynn. The problem here probably started in The Flame and the Flower. When I read FATF I absolutely adored Jeff. He was like a saint. This meant that Ms Woodiwiss had to continue to make him so wonderful in this book in order not to dissapoint. The problem was that then Raelynn's character had the burden of creating all the conflict. All I can say is that this book was a nice try. I really liked it but I can see why other people did not. I suggest that you get this one from the library but it is still worth reading.
Rating: Summary: what happen to kew? Review: Her last 3 books are not the same like the old ones like Rose In Winter, Flame and The Flower, Shanna etc. What happened? The new books isn't the same like the old ones. I'm still your loyal fan, but just take your time in writing your books, we'll always be here waiting for it.
