Summary: did not pack the usual punch
Review: I was eagerly awaiting the release of this book. I had already read the two short stories before this and had read THE FLAME AND THE FLOWER countless times. I am an avid fan of Woodiwiss and have all her books. With this one I was very disapointed. It did not show the promise that the two short stories had on it. It did not build on the charachters or the plot. You knew what was going to happen before it did. I was very disapointed. IF you want to read this book check it out of the library just don't buy it.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I was very disapponted in this book. I found that the writing did not compare to her earlier books. First of all you have to have read the two previous short stories about Jeff Birmingham to understand where this story starts. Maybe those two stories should have been added to the front of the book. Also the sex scenes were written a little too explicit or rather as if thats all they thought about. It was very easy to figure out who the villain was before the you got halfway through the book. The story became more interesting at about page 420.

Summary: A waste of money
Review: This book was really a disappointment to me. I loved the Flame and the Flower and the Elusive Flame. One word can describe this book: SLOW. Kathleen E. Woodiwiss could have done a much better job with this book if she would have not have gone into so many boring and irrelevant details.

Summary: One Worth Putting Down
Review: This is the first Woodiwiss novel that I have abandoned midway through. I wasn't really suprised by the shallowness of this book. The past few novels I have read by the author have lacked the riveting story lines and romantic spirit of her great books -- Flame and the Flower, Shannah and The Wolf and the Dove. Still, I've continued to read her novels, hoping that whatever has gone awry in her writing will be mended (new editor? unrealistic deadlines?). From now on I'll check with my fellow readers at Amazon before by a new KW novel! I'd rather reread my dogeared copy of The Wolf and the Dove than shell out good money for overblown prose without a good story.

Summary: A Season Beyond a Kiss
Review: I loved the other two books in this series, and was eagerly anticipating this one. I must say that I was very disappointed. This book did not pack the punch of the other two at all. The chemistry was poor. This story line was weak. I had to struggle through it hoping it would get better. It did not.

Summary: This is not the Woodiwiss of the past
Review: As a devoted Kathleen Woodiwiss fan, I was very happy to find her newest novel, "A Season Beyond a Kiss," in print. Unfortunately, this book was an extreme disappointment, which has been the case with her most recent novels. I was hoping for the type of story and character development that she displayed in "The Flame and the Flower" and "Ashes in the Wind" (my all-time favorite book), but I could barely get past the first few chapters. The plot is weak, the dialogue is inane, and the characters are regrettably forgettable. This is NOT the quality of the Kathleen Woodiwiss of the past. For new Woodiwiss fans, check out her earlier novels ("The Wolf and the Dove," "The Flame and the Flower," "Ashes in the Wind," "Shanna," "A Rose in Winter"), and you will be able to see the difference.

Summary: Should Have Known Better
Review: How many times have you spent hard earned money on a book and was sick when you started to read it. It is not only the fault of the author, but the publisher as well. We the public deserve better. I have been reading romance stories for 30 years and have a collection that is unbelievable, so I feel that I paid and deserve to give my true thoughts. The Flame and The Flower is a 10 star book in my estimation and the author deserves much credit for the writing of that book and I would gladly pay $9.00 or more to read it. In fact,I know it practically by heart. Think before you buy - the cost of this book would give you 2 books and probably much more enjoyment . There are too many authors to choose from, Just don't buy because of a name. I do not write this to be cruel but truthful. We loved Jeff in The Flame and The Flower and he deserved a lot better. How many years did we wait? Its too late to give him another story! Remember, you want a book that you can put on the shelves that can be reread again and again. To my disappointment this is not one of them. Thank-you Amazon.Com for allowing us to be the critics for once, We should have the right for it is our money that the publishers and authors take to the bank.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I was really looking forward to this story being a K.W. fan, but unfortunately this story was very disappointing. When will she write one to equal "Flame and the Flower" or "Wolf and the Dove"?

Summary: A Season Beyond A Kiss
Review: Woodiwiss does a marvelous job with this latest novel in the Birmingham series. I really was hooked from the first page. I really liked Jeff Birmingham's character in the Flame and the Flower, but I absolutely adored him in this story. Raelynn was a breath of fresh air and I believe I would have reacted the same way had I been faced with the threat that the man that I loved might not have been the hero I thought he was. Their chemistry between these two characters was as explosive on paper as it was in my imagination. Woodiwiss's approach in making the story begin after their marriage was an unique approach. Usually, the marriage is the outcome of a love story, and not the precipice. The one thing that I would reccommend to the readers is that they read this novel after the Flame and the Flower and before they read the Elusive Flame, because chronologically, this story should come before Beau and Cerynise's story

Summary: Interesting historical romantic intrigue
Review: In 1803 Charleston, Jeff and Raelynn Birmingham seem happily married in spite of machinations from her Uncle Cooper and an odious wannabe lover Gustav Fridrich. However, she begins to doubt her husband's faithfulness when a teenager Nell arrives claiming he impregnated her. He vehemently denies her charges. After Nell gives birth, she again accuses Jeff of being the father. Soon after that, Raelynn finds Jeff holding a bloody knife while Nell lies nearby dead.

Raelynn believes Jeff killed Nell even though he denies it. She runs away, but he follows and rescues her from becoming lost in the swamp. They separate, but over time she misses her beloved spouse and begins to conclude that he could never kill in cold blood. However, someone did in the hope of setting up Jeff to take the fall and either the same assailant or another wants Raelynn dead too.

A SEASON BEYOND A KISS, the long awaited sequel to the classic THE FLAME AND THE FLOWER, is an interesting historical romantic intrigue that fans of Kathleen E. Woodiwiss will enjoy. The story line is filled with tension and plenty of action. The tale starts off a bit slow, but once the plot picks up speed it never slows down until the climax. Raelynn's behavior seems offbeat and inappropriate especially her attitude towards the heroic Jeff. Readers will love the lead male character and hiss at the various villains. Though no flaming flower, A SEASON BEYOND A KISS is an enjoyable novel that can stand-alone.
