Summary: Dick Please forgive me.
Review: Mr. Francis has done nothing but entertain me for years and years, you can't miss with a Dick Francis book, hmmm except maybe this one, if you want to know dick francis look elsewhere, but one clinker in so so many, i still will read every word you write. (Still did you really write this?)

Summary: Second Wind
Review: Did Mr. Francis get a new editor? Did Mr. Francis really write this book? Usually the author writes with an ease of dialogue, illustrating his characters for the reader and delivering perfect timing. The relationship with Jett was clumsy and a bit of a surprise. I'm sure the weather information was accurate because Francis ususally does good research, but he's better at writing mysteries and adventure with real horse plots, not just throw in a horse because his name is associated with that style. Very disappointing. Did he really write this one?

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Not the usual Dick Francis Book
Review: Again, Dick Francis moved away from the standard horse track mystery to write a mystery that uses the backdrop of horse racing. The book was quick reading, and enjoyable, as the characters are real. A good alternative to the standard Dick Francis novel.

Summary: Well, I thought it was great.
Review: I just had to write when I saw all the negative reviews by other customers. I have been reading Dick Francis a long time and, in my opinion, he still hasn't lost his touch. Yes Second Wind is different. That's good. He always manages to bring something new to his writing and you always learn something about some profession. And he always makes it entertaining. The only thing I can thing of that would make some people not like this book is that you have to pay real close attention to what's going on--especially at the end. This book does not have the classic denouement where all is explained after all is said and done. But, fear not, all is explained, you just have to pay attention. This is a great book and I enjoyed it very much. Dick Francis is still tops!

Summary: Disappointing and Amateurish
Review: The unconvincing plot, shallow characterizations and inaccurate editing would have been embarrassing for an amateur. I am left wondering if the real plot is to discover who wrote this. It can't be the same Dick Francis I have enjoyed year after year.

Summary: Second Wind Takes a Dive
Review: If asked about Dick Francis, I always tell people he writes a consistently good story and I always learn something about horseracing. I am sure after the umpteenth book, maybe Mr. Francis is tired of the same formula. A terribly disappointing tale and the only Dick Francis book I could never recommend.

Summary: second wind
Review: My wife and I, both, have read all of the Dick Francis books. While some stray from the main story line only a few have been "duds". This latest,SECOND WIND, is horrible. If Mr. Francis can't write any better than this he might want to ride horses again for a living. I gave it one star because I realize( being a short story author myself) it's difficult to even put together a novel.

Summary: Give this one a miss!
Review: I've always enjoyed reading Dick Francis and I have read most of his books. This time he moves away from the field of horse racing and the result is a failure. I can think of nothing good to say about this book. The plot is weak and not even remotely plausible. I think if the script did not have the Dick Francis name, the book would never have been published.

Summary: Disappointment
Review: Second Wind is a disappointing book; it could not hold my interest at all. The characters lacked the normal charm I look for in Francis' books. I found both the hero and the plot uninteresting. This was a major letdown from one of my favorite authors.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not his best by any means
Review: I think this has been the only Dick Francis novel I've not read at a single sitting. The writing was as good as ever but the plot simply wasn't as gripping as in his earlier works.
