Summary: a magical read-aloud, or a laugh-out-loud read-to-yourself
Review: Esme Raji Codell has done the impossible-- she has written a book that transported me back in time to my own school girl days, and made me realize how miraculous life can be. Sahara Special is an insightful, funny and moving tale about a troubled, but talented young girl. Codell has an incredible ear for kids' voices that makes her first person narrator feel like a best friend. I recommend this book to kids dealing with divorce, life changes, and of course, the desire to write!

Summary: Sahara Very Special
Review: I laughed, I cried, it was better than Cats!

No, Seriously... this is a beautiful book that opens a window into the heart of a girl who has been slapped with the label "Special Ed". Fortunately, for us, Sahara is special, Super Terifically Special.

The 5th graders in this book talk like 5th graders. The Teacher, Miss 'Pointy' makes you wish you were either as cool a teacher as she or that you were in 5th grade yourself.

Go ahead, read it. You're gonna love it!

Summary: Read Sahara
Review: I loved Sahara and her magical teacher, Ms. Pointy. Teachers, read this gem out loud to your classes. We have Joey Pigza as a "special" boy and now it's time for a "special" girl, Sahara.
Codell's writing will touch your heart.

Summary: Teachers do make a difference . . .
Review: In Sahara Special, Esme Raji Codell pulls from her experience as a teacher to portray realistic kids and an audacious teacher who gets their attention. The main character Sahara goes from being an extremely introverted although talented child to one who is more willing to show her talents. The unconventional Madame Poitier or Ms. Pointy, as the class calls her, is able to reach not only Sahara, but also Darrell, the class troublemaker, several ESL students, Sahara's shy cousin, and practically every character mentioned including Sahara's mother! An interesting and mostly believable story about a budding writer and her teacher. With some minimal strong language, this story is inspirational without being heavily moralistic and would be appealing to 10 to 12 year olds.

Summary: sahara special
Review: Sahara is a 5th grader who needs special education.
In school she is secretly writing notes to her dad. Some of the notes said..." Why did you leave." "Are you ever coming back?" "Do you want to come back?" Then one day her teacher found the letters and was shocked. She immediently made a phone call to Sahara's mother. Sahara's mother was shocked too. They had a talk and decided that it was time for Sahara to go to a real school. When she got to school every thing was not normal. Well it was normal for all the normal kids, but Sahara is not normal she is special, and so far there is nothing special about this new school. So she went to all her normal classes with all the normal students and all the normal teachers, but no matter how many classes Sahara went to she did not like any of them. Then finally her last class came and she was eger to get home. When she walked in her teacher handed out journals. The teacher told them to write their every thought into it. Then that's when Sahara starts learning about herself more and more. This book is a good book not the best ever but its a heart warming book you should read.

Review: sahara jones has been pulled out of special ed, and is repeating fifth grade. her new teacher, the unconventional ms. pointy, doesn't believe in labeling students or readng the RECORDS (at least, untill the end of the school year). so she and sahara have the luxury of a fresh start. with love and humor, ms. codell describes their heart-warming journey. a sparkly sticker for this funny, wonderful book.

Summary: Sahara Special
Review: Sahara Special is comedy and drama blended together with rich character. Sahara Jones' father leaves her, and she is heartbroken. She writes letters to him, telling him she loves him, and misses him. After she writes her letters she has no idea where to mail them, so she keeps them in her desk, hoping nobody will find them. One day the letters tumble out at her feet, and her teachers feet too. Sahara's teacher insists that she be put in Special Education. When Miss. Pointy comes though, things change. She doesn't believe in Special Education and she is like no other teacher. Sahara hopes to make a new start. Miss. Pointy and her beliefs support Sahara to show her true self. Esme Raji Codell wrote Sahara like a dream. Sahara was a talented girl, She changes throughout the book. Codell made the change gradual, so she changed slowly along the way. Codell wrote Sahara Special like a regular book, but there was something in the character and the description. I personally felt like I was in the book, right by Sahara's side.

Summary: the best book in the world!!!
Review: Sahara special is one of the best books I have read. I loved it all like when the crazy teacher came that was so funny. Sahara kind of reminds me of the way I was [young] I would never do my homework and usually I wrote down things that I liked. The book also reminds me of my [school]teacher because when Sahara's new teacher comes to the book it just reminded me of her. So if you are trying to figuer out if you want to read this book you might just want to.
