Review: Earl Peckham failed to score with lissome Bonnie Aspenwall or her statuesque aunt, Mrs. DelBelly. Gnawed by frustration, driven by curiosity, he sets out for America's heartland to find the three readers who actually bought his novel (he only sold 3 copies of it). It is an additional burr under his saddle that his laggard publisher also purveys bestselling "trash" by first novelist Poppy McCloud. But when Earl meets Poppy autographing books in Omaha, the die is cast...for an affair of such sublime incongruity and misguided patronizing, as Peckham plsys Svengali to Poppy's Trilby, that neither love and literature will ever be the same.

That's always been DeVries's forte, piano, mezzo, and other operatic jokes. But seriously folks, the man runs rings around the English language, dropping puns anywhere he thinks you're not looking. Watch your step.
