Rating: Summary: Relentless suspense Review: THE GENERAL'S DAUGHTER is an outstanding novel, every bit as fast paced and spellbinding as THE TRIUMPH AND THE GLORY, as suspenseful as any of Stephen King's best thrillers, and to top it off, stylishly written and very well plotted.
Rating: Summary: DeMille Hits the spot Review: I just got done reading this book and i could not put it down!I am off to see it in the theater
Rating: Summary: Very cool......... Review: This book was excellent. Though somewhat slow at the beginning, but kept you interested so you wanted to know about the circumstances surrounding the death. The middle was still a little slow, but that also kept you interested enough that you wanted to know who killed her and why. It was a very exhilerating story. I couldn't believe it. I am going to go see the movie in a coupla hours with my dad, and if it is anything like the book, I'm sure I'll be entertained. The characters were well thought out and believable. I'm not too good at describing books, so all I can say is that this was an excellent book and I reccommend it to everyone!!!
Rating: Summary: Utter Trash and Drivel Review: Contrary to the author's protests delivered with such snideness in his introduction, the movie -was- better than the book, though not by much. There was no reason to care for any of the characters; they were poorly-drawn, and undifferentiated. Every time I read 'and so on,' I knew the author had run out of the words of his craft and had resorted to yet another meaningless gesture to the reader's already much-put-upon imagination and effort to make the reading experience into something more than dull.Don't waste your money. See the movie, and at least get the pleasure of watching Travolta do his thing, or buy someone else's book.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating murder investigation on a military base Review: DeMille lets the reader solve the murder case with the Army investigators over a four day period. The first person perspective has rarely been done better. Style and plot-wise, the novel will be liked by fans of Patricia Cornwell and Jonathan Kellerman mysteries.
Rating: Summary: One great summer read! Review: I've been a Nelson DeMille fan since his potboiler men's adventure paperback days of the early 70s. This is his best ever. Smart cocky hero, smart sexy heroine and a mystery plot that kept me going from page one. I took this on a late spring vacation and it was impossible to put down. Although I don't think of DeMille as a mystery writer, the plot and solution to this one put him right up there with the masters of mystery writing. Tough, sexy and tightly plotted--this is everything you look for in a great story by a master of suspense.
Rating: Summary: Excellent-- book, plot and characters Review: As a retired military officer-- Infantry and Special Forces-- and West Point graduate I found this book excellent in its accuracy. Wish he would have called the post Ft Benning though, as that's where it was obviously set. Truscott's book about West Point was good but the plot was nothing compared to this. If you want harder edged stuff, try some of Bob Mayer's Special Forces books. Not as well written as DeMille's but a lot more action and also very realistic.
Rating: Summary: Corruption of moral values on a military installation Review: It took me awhile to figure out who all the characters in the novel were and how they all related to one another. I'm still not sure who Bowes is. I recently finished "Plum Island" and that novel is very well defined as far as characters and plot. I enjoyed the comradarie between Brenner and Sunhill and the ending was a kick! I can't wait to see who gets to play the character of Grace. I, too, would like to know who had her ring and what the deal was with the bayonet. I think it could have been edited a bit tighter and the ending not quite as rushed as the time limit put on CID to solve the case before the FBI walked in and stole the glory. Nevertheless a good read.
Rating: Summary: Excellent summer reading... Review: Having recently just started using Amazon, I picked up this book on the strength of reviews such as this. I have never read DeMille but am now going through each of his novels one by one. I see now a movie is being made and I hope the lead characters keep their sarcastic sense of humour so prevalent in the novel. One of the better mysteries out there, with suprisingly little violence but plenty of suspense. Recommeded!
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I read this book almost 8 years ago and I'm glad I did! It's one of the best books I've read. Can't wait to see the movie. Hope it's as good as the book though...
