Summary: Praise from a British Nurse/Helath Visitor
Review: Wow, what a book!! I am a 'New Breed' Health Visitor here in the UK in Cornwall. I have been nursing for 22 years, but did my Health Visiting degree 3 years ago after the birth of my two children as I felt mums were being given mixed messages from health professionals and I felt I had little support and no guidance entering into the world of 'babydom' I read your articles in the Mail on Sunday and immediately ordered your book. It arrived two days ago and I have hardly put it down! What is so amazing is it reflects exactly the sort of Health Visitor I am and advocates the parenting skills I do to my clients. Summary: Nurses Praise for this book!
Review: I have just about finished this book "Secrets of the Baby Whisperer". It's a wonderful book for parents!! I am an RN working in a Newborn Intensive Care Unit in Anchorage, Alaska. Because we are caring for the premature/immature infant, we teach our staff and parents about "Developmental Care" for the infants in the unit. Although the terminology may be a bit different, we teach staff and parents many of the same techniques for caring for their infant. Such as watching the baby and his cues, talking to him before touching and while providing care, decreasing stimulation, swaddling, holding and comforting, etc. I could go on, My guess is a lot is common sense. It is the one thing parents sometimes forget when they have a new baby, especially a fussy, crying baby. This book was the first I have read that focused so accurately, at least in my opinion, on the baby and what his needs are, and that the baby can communicate those needs. For the NICU community, Developmental Care has progressed through the years with Brazelton's Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale and Heidelise Als Neonatal Individualized Developmental Care Assessment Program. In the medical world doctors need scientific proof that "Developmental Care" is a benefit to the babies. It is refreshing to read a book and see parents benefiting from that information without a doctor questioning if the techniques were backed up by scientific proof!Suzann Julien, RN

Summary: Not really worth all the hype
Review: Okay, I agree with connecting and talking with your baby, but I didn't need this book to know that. Her E.A.S.Y. method (E is for eating, A is for activity, S is for sleep and Y is for "you"time) is a nice idea but I didn't feel that is was explained thouroghly enough. After my newborn eats (E.) how do you get the 45 minutes of activity (A.) that Tracy suggests??? Changing her diaper takes all of 5 minutes...then what? She is a newborn...it's not like she is going to play with toys or something. Yes, I know she can stare at some shapes but then she goes to sleep. So do I prop her eyelids open for another 25 minutes before I let her sleep? I could go on...but I bet you all get me drift. All in all I was expecting to be given the secrets to the newborn world from this mystical woman who had cracked the code. Instead, I am still not getting enough "Y" time. Johnine

Summary: Took 2 days to change his sleep!
Review: I saw your segment on Dateline, I ran to the store the following day and bought the last copy of your book, then spent the next 2 days devouring every page. What a beautiful gift! My son Jack has gone from sleeping on my chest to his crib in 2 days and is so much happier when he's awake because we're not overstimulating him anymore! I hope you're making a fortune because you deserve every penny!

Summary: Sleeping Again---Thank You!
Review: Tracy, I hope you get this e-mail. I want to thank you so very much for your book. I saw your interview on Dateline and the Today Show. I than purchased your book. I was getting very frustrated that my son, Will, wasn't sleeping through the night. He is seven months old and slept through the night at 3 months and stopped. He would wake at least every hour. I tried the crying out method once and it was horrible and couldn't do it again. So I was up every hour without picking him up, patting him back to sleep. Your explanation of the three stages of sleeping and to put the baby down before the falls asleep was great! (I would give him his night time bottle and he would fall asleep while eating, then I would put him down) Since your recommendation to put him before he sleeps and to teach him to fall asleep on his own has been a blessing. I have had a many full nights of sleep and so has Will. THANK YOU! Your advice has made this mother very happy and relaxed again. (It has also helped our marriage, we were very sleep deprived parents) Again, Thanks!!!!!! I look forward to your toddler's book. Fondly, Mary Propst

Summary: Reasonable addition to your readings
Review: Tracy does have a more conversational tone in this book than what you might find in other baby advice books. My experience with most of these books suggests that they make good sources and references and all clearly are generic in tone. If you are looking for insight and advice, clearly this will be one among many books you already have by now. A book can only go so far in preparing one for parenthood, especially when it comes to "connecting" with your baby. I think the book publicist(s) may have miscalculated on the marketing of this product. Tracy and her views in print and on TV come off as patronizing-one reason for the slew of negative comments on her personally by many readers. It seems like a lot of people are not taking too kindly any suggestions by the book people that Tracy will help us poor people figure out our kids-if we only read this book. Some american readers may also get irked by her continuous negative references to how "you yankees" do it or when she belittles some practice as an "american invention". Tracy and her co-writer fail to put in an appendix of sourcing on things like where to get some items she recommends (e.g. haberman feeding system). Lastly, I found some of her discussions a bit confusing with regard to the age of the baby. It would be of help if later editions put in some indications in the tips with regard to age brackets.

Summary: baby whispering vs mothering
Review: I saw that Dateline story and I was INTRIGED to say the least. I have a baby who sleeps with us and was looking for a nice easy way to change that, I thought that her book would be the best way to do that. I RAN out and bought the book,... read until about page 100 and through the book down and haven't picked it up since. I'm a breastfeeding peer counseler and so much of what she says is wrong and even harmful to breastfeeding. I'm even bringing it up with the local breastfeeding task force. Now I have a book that I wouldn't even give away. I wish I could of given this a negitive star review.

Review: I cannot believe what this woman is doing! I agree with the reader (Mobile AL USA) who stated this woman is making a lot of money telling/teaching famous people to bring up their babies etc / doing what should come naturally to most of us mothers! I have been enquiring as to when Tracy is on TV again and it seems her tour has been "suspended" due to the nature of the press reports in UK recently, and many people have said she IS in fact not qualified to the extent she says she is. I find this very worrying, and maybe do her daughters, who clearly, from reading the press, did not have the loving nurturing for most of their little lives and have in fact lived with their grandparents since the ages of 3 and 7! Money is obviously more important to Tracy than her own daughters. The book ,as I have read it, seems to contain a lot of theories and very much lack of evidence. She was also married to the father of her little girls for 10 years and he is never even mentioned in her book, as if she is denying he was even there when they were born and I believe the youngest daughter Sophie actually lives with her father in Yorkshire, as states in the British Press. Why has the tour been suspended I wonder? ps I will be sending this book back!
