Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Botched Kidnapping Tale
Review: Bent on revenge, Joe kidnaps the daughter of the doctor who couldn't save his mother. But Joe's scheme unravels when he discovers the girl will die without her insulin. An enjoyable, Grisham-style thriller.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not his best
Review: I just finished 24 Hours and, although it did keep my interest, I found it just not that good. Greg Iles has certainly done better. These characters were cliches, particularly Huey and Cheryl. That was a shame. The premise was very good, "the kid always makes it" an intriguing concept. His writing is tight as always, and evocative in scene and setting. This is just not his best work--if you are just discovering him, start with Mortal Fear--his best, I think. Keep them coming, Greg--but work on your characters, please!

Summary: 24 Hours
Review: Greg Iles takes a parent's greatest fear, the kidnaping of a child, and turns it into a pageturner of a mystery. The kidnapper promises early in the book that the "kid always makes it" and he has developed a plan that enables him to keep commiting the same crime over and over again. I thought it was highly charged suspense. I'm already hoping a new Iles book is ready for preorder.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Certainly not his best work, but still an excellent read!
Review: Iles has a natural talent for pulling the reader into the story, keeping you turning the pages, even when the plot is less than he is capable of. Such was the case with this novel.

My hope is that Greg Iles is not going the way of other writers such as Grisham and often times Crichton who seem to be writing for that "big screenplay deal" and not for the reader. Although largely predictable and sometimes maddingly unrealistic, this work was still an excellent read with some interesting takes and a truly unique plot.

If you haven't read Greg Iles before, don't make this your first one. I would strongly advise Mortal Fear, or The Quiet Game before this..... in fact I would place Spandau Phoenix ahead of this as well even though it is in a slightly different genre.

Summary: 24 Hours
Review: Greg Isles is a master story teller and every one of his books are a "can't put down". 24 Hours grips you immediately and doesn't let go. I put Greg in the top of the mystery writers of the this day and the past and I have read almost all of them (his and other authors works.) He is rather unique as so far all of his books are completely different and don't relate with a central theme or character throughout. Hats off to this man, let's hope he can keep "them acomin".

Summary: A Good read
Review: This fast paced story about an unusual kidnapping kept me glued to the pages. I found the dialogue between kidnappers and hostages quite entertaining. Though, at times, it was somewhat predictable, the story kept you on an emotional rollercoaster. The research regarding the airport and tower scene could have been better (phraseology and control tower functions). An overall good book.

Does... 'the kid always makes it' really mean it?

Summary: Another excellent read from Iles
Review: I've just finished this book, and came onto Amazon to find more by Iles. Although it was a bit more predictable than other Iles books I've read, it was just as hard to put down as the rest. Crystal clear images, developed characters, and a plot which will make it hard for any parent to go to sleep without checking on their kids one more time...

Summary: The Ultimate Page Turner
Review: I bought this book last week at a book signing in Jackson. As soon as I opened it, I could not put it down. Some reviewers have said that the plot was predictable, maybe so, but I still found the book fabulous. This book is not a challenge for your intellect. Who reads novels for that? I like them for entertainment and this one gets a 5 star rating in my opinion. READ this and if you haven't read Mortal Fear, read it too!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Heart pumping intensity
Review: Iles takes us on a fast, scarey, suspenseful ride with 24 Hours. I've seen both Ransom movies - 24 Hours tops them. I've read all of Greg Iles books and thoroughly enjoyed them - each have their own "personalities" - as does this new one. Finishing this one on my lunch hour definitely destroyed my digestion!

I read 3 to 4 books a week - and this is one I readily passed on to a friend with an entusiastic recommendation.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Read it!
Review: Wow!!! Couldn't put it down. In its genre its near the top. Faster paced than Quiet Game. More suspense than Spandau Phoenix.More intense than Mortal Fear. And a faster sleigh ride than Black Cross. If you're an Iles fan, this book's for you. Forget the pseudo-intellects that try to analyze this book. Its a downhill ride that is pure joy.
