Rating: Summary: Sexy Native-American meets a blazen red head. Review: A very excellent book. This book has it all. Romance, battles, historical facts, and a story line that sucks you in and you can't ever get your mind off the book. I have owned the book for several years and it is still my absolute favorite.
Rating: Summary: A mistake of blazing proportions Review: Because of the average star rating and the generally glowing reviews I decided that for my first foray into Susan Johnson's novels I'd choose Blaze (and Outlaw). A mistake of blazing proportions (pun intended). This book has gone straight into the charity sack. Why? Well, usually I wish a book could go on forever, not this one - it was too long and I think a lot of it could have been cut out to improve the rambling and convoluted plot; I found myself skim reading it, which is something I very rarely do. As for the hero (Hazard) and heroine (Blaze) - I disliked both intensely up until the very end, only slightly redemying themselves in my eyes. But what about the sexual tension and the sex? Very mundane. It's hard to see why Hazard was thought to be such a great lover. As for Blaze, she came across as desperate, and not in an attractive 'romantic' way. Love, you ask? I reply that until the very end of the book I was not sure if they loved each other; their relationship was not 'loving'. Moreover, Hazard doubted Blaze until very near the end; in my opinion in order to love you also need to trust them. As I got Outlaw at the same time and read them within days of each other it was hard not to compare them and find the similar in a lot of ways. I don't know if this is Susan Johnson's formula, but this is what I noticed: hero has a lot of sex with lots of different women before meeting heroine, meets and has sex/sexual encounter with heroine very quickly after meeting, stops having sex/sexual encounter with the heroine (and not uncommon for the hero to then have sex with someone else), hero has sex with the heroine, hero *suddenly* realises he loves heroine and vice versa, more sex, a misunderstanding or separation occurs, hero and heroine reunite. All pretty standard historical fare, which is not a bad thing. I suppose the problem I have with Blaze is that I found the relationship between the heroine and heroine unconvincing, added to the fact I found both unattractive. However, Outlaw is a lot better. I believed that Outlaw's hero and heroine (both attractive characters, although the hero was a bit annoying) did love each other by half way through, and they did have a loving relationship for about half the book; I still was not keen on the first half. I'd recommend Outlaw over Blaze, and in any case I'll be very careful about which, if any, Susan Johnson books I chose in future.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT book to read, I wish i could give it more stars Review: Blaze and Outlaw are very different from a typical romance book. In other books the woman finally gets to sleep with the man after 300 pages of reading. In susan Johnsons books they get right to the good part,I mean what is the point in waiting when we all know we usually read these books for the good and emotional parts. In blaze there was a lot of sexually tension and it did take a little convincing in the end to believe they were in love but i can't say its the same in all her books. The only books i can't recommand for those who read these books is PINK and Love Storm because it was just not Susan Johnson to me.If your looknig for good books Wicked, Outlaw, Blaze, and Sinful are good books. If this was not helpful try some one else don't limit yourself to one author. (...)
Rating: Summary: Read in 1 day Review: Blaze was the 5th Susan Johnson novel I read. (I have them all) I started it at 7pm and finished at 9am. I couldn't put it down. Hazard is one of her best leading men(next to Andre in Taboo). I laughed out loud and cried while reading it. I don't look for "reality" in romance novels, just a chance to be transported to another place and time. My thanks to Mrs. Johnson for sharing her gift and talent.
Rating: Summary: HOOKED ON THE FEELIN! Review: First off let me say that I am an Afican American woman who never thought to read let lone buy a novel written by a non-African American writer but on the advice of one my favorites Beverly Jenkins who also pens Historicals;she recommended Silver Flame to me which by the way when i saw the cover I must admit I balked at the ideal but then eventually gave in and brought it and have been hooked ever since. Now, I've read quite a few of her novels but Blaze was the one that I couldn't ever find until last week I found here by mistake if you can believe that! I simply loved their story and it was very nice to see the Native American culture portrayed in such a shining light for a change; because they were like any other race just trying survive just wanting to live and love freely and I think Hazard was Ms.Blaze's perfect match; because he helped her to see that the world wasn't her personal playground and she helped him to see that his life couldn't and didn't have to be all about his clan that he could take care of his people and still have room for love and their passion simply SIZZLED off the pages. And too the young lady from a previous review who thought that Hazard didn't know how to treat women I beg to differ because all of the males in Susan's novels are crass and at times even cruel in their dealings with members of the opposite sex. Or, was the fact that Jon"Hazard"Black was Native American that rubbed you the wrong way? I certainly hope not.
Rating: Summary: simply the best.. Review: Having read thousands of book, only 3 authors have had an the effect of a bomb going off inside my head. Susan Johnson would be one. Blaze was the first S Johnson novel I read, and without a doubt the best. It took about a minute and half to realize there was something 'different' about her style of writing. She is definitely an author who breaks all of the standard 'formula' rules. I wouldn't recommend Ms Johnson's books if you are looking for the 'traditional' soft/romantic moonlight, poetry and candles - 'don't come near me with that big thing', done-to-death type of story. Personlly, I expect, and like more for my money and reading pleasure. As they say; comedy is not pretty, and her books are not for the weak at heart. On the other hand, if you are looking for depth, historical relevence, with characters you can almost see and feel, S Johnson is the author for you. As any experienced reader will tell you, the difference between her books and the thousands of others is very simple. Ms Johnson's books, in a nutshell, just plain *kicks ass*.. With of course, 'Blaze' kicking the biggest one of all.. :>
Rating: Summary: Didn't want it to end Review: I have read almost all of Susan Johnson's book this is by far the best. I don't usually enjoy romance books written about the west and indians as heros, because most authors seem to gloss over the way American Indians really treated white women or women period. This story works very well. The characters have depth and intellect. The love scenes are wonderful and well written.

Rating: Summary: The "Best Writer" of Romance Novels Review: I have read hundreds of romance novels in the past 15-20 years and only one name stands above all the rest, that of Susan Johnson. There is more intelligence, humor, passion, and true romance in her novels that in all of the previous volumes I have read to date. Blaze was the first of the many books of Susan Johnson's that I picked up to start reading. I eagerly look forward to each new publication. Her characters and story lines are the stuff of dreams!!!
Rating: Summary: Almost perfect, but not quite. Review: I loved this book. I read it long ago but forgot the title until now. I love sexy romance and I love it when they deal different cultures. Like my newest favorite "Anything, My Love" by Cynthia Simmons. A sizzling page turner with a hero to die for.
