Summary: Read it and Live It!
Review: I have a friend named Jimmy who acted just like the main character in this book. I think anyone who reads this will be able to relate to the subtle intertwined storyline. Captivating pictures allow you to sit and stare for hours. I enjoyed reading this book whilest eating a taco (except I spilled some salsa on page 69.)
Please read this book. John Grisham doesn't have enough money to remodel his yacht! Times are tough and you'll learn all about them in SKIPPING CHRISTMAS!

Summary: Don't Skip This Book
Review: When you read this book you'll know why even us competitors of Grisham do not skip his books, will not skip Christmas, and have not skipped Amazon.com's efforts to bring us great, but little known, books (...)

Summary: Grisham at his best!
Review: After reading A Painted House, I knew Grisham was on a new level of writing. Skipping Christmas is a perfect example of great writing. Funny story and great characters. I hope Grisham keeps it up in books to come.

Summary: Excellent book. Good ending.
Review: I enjoyed this one although I do wish it had been a bit longer.
Good story and excellent finish. John Grisham did it again!

Summary: Droll and light effort from John Grisham!
Review: I was so used to reading books from Grisham about government conspiracies and enormous court cases -- not to mention the titles that begin with "The" -- that it hadn't occurred to me that Skipping Christmas would be the light and heart-warming comedy that it is.

Having waved good-bye to their daughter at the airport the day after Thanksgiving, Luther and Nora Krank have a great idea: why not skip the hustle of shopping, cooking and decorating this year and go on a cruise instead? And so, the Kranks decide to boycott Christmas altogether -- to the dismay of their neighbors, who now see Luther as Scrooge. A hilarious tale of how the Kranks try to avoid the cheerfulness and holiday excitement of their annoying neighbors begins.

We've all wished we could skip Christmas -- after all, who wouldn't trade the hustle and reckless spending over a nice soothing Caribbean cruise? I know I certainly would! Who knows? I'll probably trade Christmas in favor of a nice vacation next year! And I don't have to worry about the neighbors interfering!:-)

Read this gem! You'll be impressed with John Grisham's comedic effort. He ought to write these more often.

Summary: Who really wants to skip Christmas?
Review: I really enjoyed this book overall. I recommend this book to people of all ages. There were so many parts all the way through it that just made me laugh. I understand the way they wanted to skip Christmas because of it saving them money, but is it worth it? I don't think so. Even if they don't have their daughter, skipping Christmas would be like they just wanted to forget all about it along with their great memories. How could anyone want to do that? Throughout the book one really sees the way people today over commercialize the Christmas season. People buy to many decorations to put up inside and out on their house just to compete against their neighbors with who has the best looking house. In the end, it all doesn't matter because the kranks do not forget about the Christmas spirit when their daughter Blair comes homes out of the blue.

Summary: Better then "Christmas with the Kranks!"
Review: I saw the movie before I read the book and I have to say, the book is MUCH better. "Skipping Christmas" is a very touching novel almost like a fable for adults. We all dream of skipping the costs of Christmas and picking up and leaving. If you read the book (and don't cheat like me and see the movie first), you'll find out what happens when Luther and Nora Krank decied to do the same thing. (And you'll laugh.... a lot!)

Summary: Not one to skip
Review: In all my 30 plus years of reading fiction, I have never laughed as hard as I did when I read this story. I literally had to put the book down due to being in stitches from the comical situations in this book. If you are a little down this Christmas and are in need of some good cheer, then get this novel. Get ready to laugh and cry...sometimes at the same time. This was also a fast read for you folks who are too busy to read. Enjoy! Also recommended: THE CHILDREN'S CORNER by McCrae

Summary: GREAT BOOK!!! :)
Review: Skipping Christmas is a comedy written by John Grisham. It is set back east in the cold winter holiday month of December. This story begins when Nora Krank and her husband Luther drop their daughter, Blair, off at the airport. Blair has joined the Peace Corps and is on her way to Peru to spend her first Christmas away from home. Nora is a housewife and mother who will miss her daughter very much and cannot stop worrying about Blair's safety. This exert from the book on page 4 shows Nora and Luther's different personalities:

"I guess we'd better go," Luther said to his daughter, his only child. Nora, her mother, bit her lip and nodded and kissed her once more. "Please be careful," she said because she couldn't stop saying it. They released her and watched helplessly as she joined a long line and inched away, away from them, away from home and security and everything she'd ever known. As she handed over her boarding pass, Blair turned and smiled at them one last time. "Oh well, " Luther said. " Enough of this. She's going to be fine."

With Blair away, Luther, an accountant, adds up all the money they spent on the previous Christmas. The total comes to $6,100.00! The fun begins when Luther decides that he and Nora should skip Christmas altogether this year and instead, take a ten-day Caribbean cruise. But, skipping the whole holiday season is a little more difficult than they had imagined. Every other year, all the neighbors decorated their homes and won 1st prize from the city for the best decorated block. This year with one dark house, the prize would be lost. The Kranks find themselves in one comical situation after another when their neighbors, friends, and co-workers have difficulty understanding how anyone can just skip Christmas.
The author's style of writing keeps this book moving at a very fast pace with many delightful twists and turns along the way. I found it difficult to stop reading and the pages seemed to turn themselves. Skipping Christmas is a lighthearted easy to read comedy that will be enjoyed by the young and old, alike. Although this book is set in modern day America, in time, it is sure to be ranked among other classic Christmas stories such as A Christmas Story, A Christmas Carol, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Anyone who has ever faced a crowded mall at Christmastime or has completely drained their finances and energy preparing for this festive season, will understand Luther and Nora's desire to escape it all. But, as with many of Grisham's other novels, the end of the book holds the heart of the story.

Summary: worth a read
Review: This was a fun book. It was a quick read and I found it tough to put down. I called it my "purse book" because I carried it with me and read whenever I had a few minutes. This proved to be quite embarrassing because I would be somewhere reading it and begin laughing out loud. Is this the best book I ever read? No. But I gave it 5 stars because it made me laugh, I talked about it and I recommended it to several friends. It is worth a read.
