Review: what a fabulous book. would certainly become a great movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it from the very first page to the last.

The book highlights the materialism of american christmas, and truly hightlights the amount of money that is spent on christmas because of the hype created by people all around you,.

The Kranks a really funny couple decides to skip christmas and get away from the madness of it all. It truly shows the resistance that they have to all the fancies around them. But something more than their own enjoyment pops up in the last minute and they decide to do christmas on christmas day. This shows the greatest sacrifice our parents always end up making for us children.

Very touching book and very funny. Guys if ur feeling down buy this book. Lots to learn in there

Summary: No Good...
Review: This book is not up to John Grishman quality. Although it was actually interesting throughout the first 3/4 of the book, after that it really tapers off. The last part of the book really drops off and makes it worse.

Summary: Great Story!!
Review: What a terrific book. I enjoyed this book from the first page to the last page. I was only sorry that it ended. Mr Grisham congratulations! I read a new book almost weekly and I don't remember enjoying a book as much as Skipping Christmas.
Thank You!

Summary: Loved this book, although too short for the price.
Review: Loved it, because many a Christmas I have felt the same way, it's just too much hazzle and I get stuck with all the work. But when it finally arrives and everyone is enjoying themselves then it seems worth it (almost). But I'd still like one Christmas away from home, maybe not the Carribean but Vienna or Germany, where I could be waited on and just enjoy the whole experience. So I really empathized with the couple in the book and loved the wit of the whole story. Of course, I always love Grisham's books. I only gave it 4 stars because it's such a short read for the price.

Summary: Don¿t throw out the baby with the bathwater.
Review: In modern America, Christmas suffers from an overdose of materialism and sentimentalism. At least, that's what Luther and Lora Krank conclude, and so they decide to skip Christmas for a year, and go on a Caribbean cruise instead. But while skipping the mayhem of crowded malls and credit card debts has much going for it, skipping Christmas turns out to be more difficult than planned. Luther and Lora fend off all challenges to their plan of skipping Christmas, until an unexpected twist forces them to make a final choice between their Caribbean getaway and the usual Christmas tradition. The story doesn't have the depth and complexity of a usual Grisham thriller. But Grisham is a gifted storyteller in whatever he writes, and this is no exception. It's a story filled with warm humor and even suspense.

But especially insightful is the critical look at the traditional Christmas celebration. Perhaps Luther and Lora's observations are quite appropriate: for most people Christmas really has become too hectic, too hedonistic, not to mention too expensive. Yes it's full of cliches in every sense, but legitimately so - these cliches about the Christmas season contain a great deal of truth, and give much reason for self-examination! It seemed to be a shame that these insightful and accurate observations appear to be reversed in the conclusion with a return to Christmas sentimentalism. Yet perhaps Grisham is suggesting that we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater - while an American Christmas has much that deserves criticism, something of the sentimentalism would be a shame to give up. So if skipping Christmas isn't quite the answer, perhaps we do need to have a good hard look at our traditions. Even if we keep the baby, we do need to throw out some bathwater. This thought-provoking novel forces us to re-examine our holiday traditions, and entertains us at the same time. And if you're not planning on skipping Christmas, it would also make an excellent gift...

Summary: aimless, pointless
Review: A weak attempt first to attack the mindless Christmas hustle of Suburban America, then to pretend it's really wonderful because it might magically bring out the best in your neighbors. Never mind that they've tried so hard to torment you the rest of the time.

The only hope for redemption for this book is that Grisham was making light of Yuppie suburbanites' pathetic inability to say no to spending money on anyone or anything, especially at Christmas, and for already spoiled children. If so, he does a lousy job by pretending they redeem themselves in a preposterously improbable ending.

When reading this, you will say "now, nobody would ever be that stupid" about a hundred times. Because nobody is, and if they are, you sure don't want to read about them, even if it is only a measly 170 pages.

As such, this reads much like a 9th grade essay on what's bad about Christmas written by a kid who figures out at the end he'd better hedge his bets and say something good or he might not get anything from Santa.

Grisham should go back to writing the same legal drama over and over and over again, and leave Dickens alone.

Summary: A great story!!
Review: This great story made me laugh a lot! (I also experienced all the emotions reading this story.) I have read every Grisham book and this by far is his best work. I don't remember enjoying a short story as much as this one.

A lot of people enjoy giving John Grisham a hard time because he's been so successful. Do your self a favor and read this story you will enjoy it.

Summary: I couldn't put this down!!
Review: This is a fun story, about an "empty nest syndrome" couple re-evaluating their Christmas traditions and the uproar it causes. The characters are believeable and fun, it was hard to put down--I read it from cover to cover!! John Grisham has displayed his versatility in this book.

Summary: Like a summer blockbuster movie...
Review: ...turn off your brain and enjoy! If you don't think about this book too hard, it's an entertaining piece of fluff. If you enjoy books with depth and reasoning, you'd do best to avoid Skipping Christmas. The idea is a good one, but is not a fully realized one...as is the problem of many Grisham books. I didn't hate the read...but it wasn't very memorable. It'll make a great movie...and yes, a movie is already in the works. Hey, it's got to be better than that "Grinch" movie!
