Summary: Just typical.
Review: Luther and Nora Krank send there daughter Blair off to Peru for peace corps work a month before Christmas. Feeling sad The Kranks decide to skip Christmas this year and go on a 10 day sunshined filled cruise, scheduled to leave Christmas afternoon.

All the locals of Hemlock street-except the Kranks- start the anual decoration rituals-including all roofs equiped with a 7 foot Frosty the snowman. Upon noticing the Kranks have decided to Skip Christmas the locals start harrasing the Kranks with carols, anonymous Christmas cards with were's Frosty and so on.

Well without going on and giving the whole story away,I will say,the story started slow the middle was pretty funny, the ending was typical. It seems the author threw in a couple of characters for the heck of it. Who the heck was Marty and why did you include him in the story? Not bad. Quick easy read. Just typical.

Summary: Tacky, Predictable, Unbelievable.
Review: Subject says it all.... I found myself rolling my eyes through the entire book and saying, "Give me a break." Almost stopped reading it because of how ridiculous and yet predictable it was. I was hoping the end might redeem it, but it didn't even come close.

INSTEAD OF "SKIPPING CHRISTMAS", try SKIPPING THIS BOOK.

Summary: I Loved This Book !
Review: I had a hard time putting it down. It is filled with perfect humor that everyone can relate to. John Grisham did a great job with all of the characters. I sure hope this one becomes a movie.

Summary: Most Wonderful Christmas Story
Review: This could quite possiby be the most funny story that I have ever read. This story left me wanting and searching for another just like it for this Christmas. In all of he stress of the holiday Grisham brings uncontrolable laughter in his story of a couple that decide to forgo the holiday rituals when their daughter goes overseas. Never dreaming that their neighbors would see this as an act of treasonous behavior. As if Luthers wife's apprehensions were not enough to contend with, Luther than has to eventually deal with sneaking around his own home to avoid the neighbors incessant attempts to get him to celebrate the holiday in the usual ritual fashion.

After reading the other reviews I have come to the conclusion that those who cannot see the wonderful humor in this light-hearted Christmas story are the ones who have lost the ability to enjoy all that Christmas can be. Yes, including all the crowds, the cost and the hassles. Grisham puts all these into perspective with the ending thought that what really makes Christmas so special isn't anything less than making the holiday special for those we care about most.

* Caution: those who choose to read this may find themselves laughing loud and hardy. Grisham's side-splitting humor will leave you ready to take on the world (or mall) with a whole new outlook.

Summary: Skipping this book
Review: There was hardly anything that I liked about this book. All the characters are annoying, predictable and NOT FUNNY.
I particularly disliked the racist references about Enrique (Blair's boyfriend from Peru).
Most of all the story is booooring and simplistic.
Do not waste your time.

Summary: Worst book I have read all year.
Review: My friends said to read this book... So I did, and TBH, I have to categorize it as "the worst book I have read all year" (and trust me - I read a lot). I am *so* glad I didn't buy this or I would have been furious.

The characters are flat, insipid, and uninspiring. The plot is unbelievable and as another reviewer stated, is tailored for a made-for-tv movie, the ending is just plain moronic and to top it off, there's even a little racism for good measure.

Thoroughly disappointing. Save your time and your money.

Summary: The Best Christmas Book Ever!
Review: If you love Christmas than you will love this book! This is by far the best Christmas book I have read.

Summary: Skip Skipping Christmas
Review: Garbage. Pure and simple.

Poorly written. Lousy plot. Cynical curmudgeon decides he and the wife will skip Christmas, going on a cruise instead. He considers his neighbors are dolts or scam artists-- including the fire department. Then the daughter, doing volunteer work in South America, decides to come home for Christmas-- with her new husband. Daughter springs this on curmudgeon and wife on Christmas Eve. There will be no skipping Christmas this year! They must make a traditional Christmas for her, even though the whole world is closed for business. The neighbors come to the rescue, ala "It's a Wonderful Life". And curmudgeon re-discovers the meaning of Christmas. Garbage!

Don't waste your money.

If you want a really good book, read "Peace Like a River" by Leif Enger. Though it is not a Christmas book persay, it has a Christmas scene in it that will genuinely spark your spirit. You will enjoy it.

Summary: Skipping Grisham
Review: John Grisham should be ashamed of himself. This is the lamest, weakest, most boring, sad excuse for literature that I've ever encountered. Obviously intended to be a quick hit to his bank account.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Take time out of the holidays to read this book!
Review: Luther and Nora are experiencing empty nest syndrome and at the holidays, it is even worse. Their only daughter Blair has went to work for the Peace Corps in Peru. Since Luther is an accountant he decides to tally up how much money is spent on Christmas each year. He discovers that last year they spent $6100 on it and have nothing to show for it. He convinces Nora to 'skip Christmas' by taking a cruise and not partaking in all of the usual holiday events.
The people that they encounter as they try to skip Christmas is hilarious. These people in this town are just looney over Christmas.
I really enjoyed this book. This is the first John Grisham book that I have ever read. While I know that it is nothing like his law thrillers, I was impressed with the story. It was a short and quick read and perfect for that holiday read.
